Monument Mountain Multi-Family Home in a Quiet Country Setting
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This lush and lovely property with a spring-fed swimming pond and twenty-two acres is nestled into the base of Monument Mountain, deep within the heart of the Berkshires. There are two stone patios, one located off the kitchen and the other off the back of the house, as well as a screened-in porch near the front entry. Outdoor seating and a propane grill make for easy, relaxed summer days and nights.
This is classic Berkshire living with gorgeous views a swim pond, and close proximity to all the Berkshire attractions. Monument Valley road is a quick 5 mins to the center of Great Barrington, 5 mins to Stockbridge, 10 minutes to Tanglewood, etc.
The house is well designed for entertaining a large family or several friends traveling together. The house sleeps twelve, in six bedrooms. There are two bedrooms on the main floor: the master with queen bed and its own newly renovated bathroom, and a large bedroom with two twin beds and its own full bathroom. The other four bedrooms are divided between two separate wings on the second floor to create extra privacy. There are two bedrooms on one side: a charming attic / office space with two twin beds, another bedroom with a full bed. The other wing has a full bedroom and a queen bedroom. The house is filled with art, books, charm and it seems to have a story of it's own it wants to tell.
There is a living room with plenty of seating, a working fireplace old-school stereo, and bar area. The dining room is ambient with seating for twelve. There is additional seating in the kitchen. The study has the only TV set with cable TV and DVD player. The house is now wireless and although your cell phone may or may not function here, you have unlimited phone usage with the US.
The Berkshires is known for its wonderful shopping, restaurants, galleries, live theater, hiking trails, swimming holes, and ski resorts. We pretty much have it all here and Great Barrington is central to all of these activities and more. Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow as well as many wonderful museums are all within a shirt drive through the most stunning roadways in the Northeast. This home provides a wide array of cultural recommends as well as a thorough home-information packet.
The house is conveniently located within 5 minutes of ski Butternut. There is a back road that takes you right there so you can avoid route 7. Please contact me for more information. I have extra photos and would be happy to send them over!

We rented this home for two summers and could not have been happier. The house is comfortable and roomy, with plenty of room for guests. The location is fantastic - it feels completely private and remote but is just minutes from both Stockbridge and Great Barrington. The managing agent and the owner are a pleasure to deal with. They are responsive and prompt whenever any issue arises, no matter how minor (a leaking sink, for example). Having rented many other times with other owners or managing agents, I can assure you that this is invaluable. The property is nicely maintained, inside and out. The yard is roomy with plenty of space for kids to run around, play badminton, soccer, tag. I can't say enough good things! There is so much to do in the area - hiking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, antiquing, farmers markets, theater, dance, great restaurants. We had many happy memories in this house and the area were always sorry to leave at the end of the summer. All of which begs the question of why we're not renting it again this year - and the answer is that in January, we purchased a house in Stockbridge. This is a wonderful house to rent short-term or long-term. You won't be disappointed!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Julie, You were a wonderful renter and although we are sorry that you moved on to your own home we are so happy to still have you part of the Berkshire Community! Thanks for this lovely review! :) Claudia

This was an incredible first-time house-rental experience. Both parents turned 60 this year, and we (5 sisters, plus one partner one dog) planned a week-long getaway to celebrate. From the moment I first stepped in the house, I knew we had seriously lucked out in finding this place. Every inch of wall is lined with the most extensive and well-ordered collection of books I've ever seen outside of a library. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots, pans, gadgets, and spices, and 'though counter space is in short supply, we managed to concoct some memorable family meals - which we then had the choice of enjoying outside, amidst gorgeous scenery, or inside, at a lovely dining room table. Bedrooms were all different, but somehow each of us ended up with just the right one. Everything was clean and well-maintained. There was even a folder full of maps, restaurant reviews, etc. We did encounter some problems with the plumbing, but Claudia was super responsive and totally on top of it, and made sure that a plumber got there ASAP. As far as location, I fall more in love with the Berkshires each time I visit, and Great Barrington is the perfect base for exploring all the area has to offer. Highlights of this trip included: Jacob's Pillow, Tanglewood, downtown Great Barrington, and Williamstown. Don't miss Beartown State Forest, which is only about 4 miles from the house and has the most picture-perfect swimming hole/pond ever....Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
