Great Family Vacation!

Guest: Brooklynite (Brooklyn, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/03/11 Review Submitted: 10/25/11

The cottage was terrific! We enjoyed many activities there with our two daughters (5 and 2), including swimming, canoeing, paddle boating, and hiking. It was very relaxing and peaceful to just sit outside, and when the mosquitoes came (they weren't too bad), we enjoyed the screened porch. The place was in great shape and clean. Michael answered all of our questions and gave great advice for navigating the area. He also provided excellent recommendations for activities, such as venturing to the nearby state park. One issue was that behind the trees across the lake is a road from which we could periodically hear a distant rush of trucks. It was not a problem for us as we had a wonderful time! I highly recommend this place.

Cabin is full of art inside and outside. Lovely setting includes cleanliness, comfort, and creativity. My family and I were fortunate to have hot, humid weather with lake breezes and fans for comfortable sleeping. Great privacy. Enjoyed the dock, water activities, and bonfires.

Wonderful Fall Colors!

Guest: Melissa N. (Minneapolis, MN)
Date of Stay: 09/29/10 Review Submitted: 03/03/11

We stayed here in October and luckily timed it perfectly to enjoy peak fall colors. Absolutely gorgeous! The cabin was very peaceful and we really enjoyed eating in the screened in porch. You could occasionally hear the cars passing on the freeway across the lake but otherwise you'd never know you weren't in the middle of the woods. The kitchen had everything we needed to make wonderful meals, I think I used the cast iron pan every night and most mornings! The fireplace was wonderful for the cool evenings, and there was plenty of firewood for both that and the firepit next to the lake. Pretty close to Jay Cooke State Park, we packed a lunch and went to enjoy more beautiful fall colors. Duluth is a short drive up the highway if you want to explore the city and of course, there's the Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls just north of Duluth too. When we arrived, the owner met us and gave us a lot of great tips for what to see nearby and also provided a guide with lots of great suggestions, including directions to a hidden lake nearby. He was great to work with and answered all our questions before we arrived. We would definitely consider staying here again for another trip "up north"!

A cabin, where time does not exist.

My husband said, "It's as if the days of the week don't exist here". Exactly. No clocks in the livingroom to remind you of the days end, no computers...just the sounds of the lake and a distant train now and again. We only saw a few neighbors here and there. But, generally, we felt like we were the only ones on the lake! The owners really added some great touches to make it seem as if you were 'home'. We enjoyed the wood fire to keep us warm and the back deck to observe the lake and the changing of the autumn leaves. We hope to enjoy this cabin again someday...

Great Little Cabin

Guest: Bridget (Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 08/29/10 Review Submitted: 09/01/10

We just stayed at the Summer Lane cabin and it was wonderful! The kitchen was stocked beyond our expectations and being just steps from the lake was great! Our kids had alot of fun fishing off the dock, swimming and using the paddle boat and canoe. We were even able to bring our dog along, which was wonderful! The lake is small, but very peaceful without lots of boat traffic. Thanks for a great little getaway!

I've read all of the other comments posted and I feel we could have written any one of them about our experiences at Summer Lane Cottage. Restful for my husband and I, terrific fun for our son. My husband and I were struck by how well furnished the cabin is, we wanted for nothing. Tired after driving in from the airport in Minneapolis, we were met by the owner and made to feel most welcome. I was even impressed with how clean the cabin was compared to other cabins where we've vacationed. Gracious owners, relaxing setting, and a place that feels like home...we'll return every summer if possible!

7/15/09 We just got back from a few days at the cabin, we virtually had the lake to ourselves during the week. It was quiet and relaxing, the paddle boat and canoe were right there and ready to go. My son caught a northern pike, and the girls were happy to fish even though they just caught bullheads, I wonder why anyone would rather go to the ozarks or okaboji which is so crowded, when you have paradise and quiet in minnesota

Stayed here for 3 days in August. We were very pleased. It's quiet, relaxing and the cabin is well-maintained. Mike did a great job making us feel at home, as well as providing us with ample firewood for fires. Kids had a blast catching perch off the dock, and the canoe and paddle boat were also a bit hit with the kids. In summary, we had a great time.

We have been up to stay at this beautiful cabin 3 different times & have more fun each time we go back. I can hardly wait to come up again. We have had a wonderful time enjoying all the lake has to offer--swimming, paddle boat, etc. It is exactly the kind of relaxing atmosphere for our family to reconnect & unwind. It seems that our time always goes so quickly! It's a getaway that I hope to be able to enjoy every year. Accommodations are suitable for a family of 4 (that includes 2 young children. All you need is clothes, swim suits, & a stop in Cloquet to pick up food.A wonderful place to go!

We had such a great time at this cabin, we are already planning a return trip! So peaceful and quiet, you forget you are in Minnesota because it feels like you are so far away from everything! The owner is so generous and accommodating. When we arrived all of our towels were laid out and there were chocolates on our pillows! We truly enjoyed the quiet lake and paddle boat rides!

We have stayed at the cottage for three summers, sometimes for as long as three weeks. It is a fabulous place to stay for many reasons. First is the cottage itself. It has every coziness a person could want. Next is the wonderful location. Some days we commuted to work in Duluth. Other days we went into the quaint local town for coffee. The bike and rollerblade trail is only twenty minutes away and is some of the best recreational biking around. And the owners have been so good to us. They are some of the most caring and accomodating people we know.!! Terese

What a wonderful respite from a fast paced world! All life calms down when you enter the idyllic setting of Summer Lane Cottage. The amenities are just perfect -- you really only need to bring your clothes and food. You can sit in silence, listen to music, watch a movie, walk in the woods, take a nap, read a book, stare into the lake, and just thoroughly enjoy your time there. Plus the owners are very responsive to any need you might have -- especially if you need wood for a fire on a cool night!!!

It was exactly what I needed. The cottage is beautifully maintained on a peaceful and quiet lake. I couldn't take my eyes off the view from the big window and deck. There was lots of wild life to observe. The cabin was stocked with everything I could think of to help me relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is an excellent variety of books, music and videos. The kitchen is well stocked also and there is a grill on the deck. We felt so pampered. The setting is idyllic. I highly recommend this rental to everyone.

I might not sound very impartial in this comment, but the first time I stayed there, Summer Lane Cottage just seemed Paradise on Earth to me.After one or two days I began to refer to it as "home" and I still did (and will do) the three other times I stayed in it.I really don't know better place to rest, to see one's problèmes from a different and beneficial point of view, to enjoy the silence or/and the leaves rustling gently in the breeze and the lakewater lapping the shore. While in Summer Lane, you will be simultaneously in the middle of a gorgeous nowhere and so close to civilization and aménities!Go for it, guys, but please, do leave me time to stay when I'll fly from France!!
