What a great little gem! Spectacular views inside and outside of the cabin. Beautiful viewing deck. Plenty of room for our two small children and dog to romp and play in the safety of the yard without worrying. It was a delightful trip. Another great memory for the books.

We've been making the North Coast a "must do" yearly vacation stop for 20 years. We always rent a cottage or cabin as close to the Ocean as is available. This cottage has an unobstructed river, dunes, Ocean view that's hard to beat. The cottage is very comfortable and clean, with some truly one-of-a-kind, whimsical, artistic touches/pieces. Since it was just my husband and I on this trip, we took full advantage of the comfy recliners to sit back and read, with the door opened to the Ocean sounds, smells, and wind. We couldn't use the fire pit, nor could we comfortably use the separate deck because the grass was pretty overgrown and we didn't want to step in or on something. This had been an unusually harsh winter so we found that the yard hadn't been maintained. However, we lucked out with some beautiful weather during our stay! The only suggestion I would make for the owner is to give your guests a call to alert them if someone (gardner/handyman/neighbor) is expected on the property. This happened to us and it could have been highly embarrassing since there aren't any window coverings. All in all, this is a cottage that is a great value and we would definitely stay agan.

I stayed at this space during the month of January 2011. We came from Tennessee and did a huge tour of California. One of favorite stops along the way was Pacific Dunes. We were only miles from the town which had glass beach and the North Coast Brewery and we were steps away from the beach. This place reminded me of log cabin on the beach. It was so relaxing and the view was amazing. The pictures really don't do enough justice to this space. Thank you for sharing your home with us. xoxox

WOW! What an amazing retreat. We had an outstanding visit to the north coast in Fort Bragg, California where the weather was splendid.Views from this house/retreat are some of the best in the world! What a treat it was to wake up and watch a huge flock of pelicans arrive, dipping and bathing in the river. Must have been hundreds of them flapping their wings diving for food. Smell of the ocean, so refreshing, invigorating, clean enough to purge any soul. Orin and Lucille, noses up, (dogs) sniffed the salty air. We found the walk to the beach easy, and our reward was sand dollars galore at the mouth of the river where it meets the Pacific Ocean. House itself, so cozy and warm with plenty of space, was immaculate, massive windows spotless, kitchen well stocked with everything needed to prepare a meal just for us or a group of friends we had over one night. Used the BBQ pit to roast fresh salmon & steaks, then sat on the big wooden deck facing the Pacific while we dined. What magic! What a glorious place! The queen-sized beds were some of the coziest I've ever slept in and the linens were simply to die for. (even ironed! Can you imagine?) Old-fashioned bathroom had not only a shower but a lovely claw foot tub which I took advantage of every night of our stay wrapping myself in the thick luxurious terry cloth towels. Even had a funky old stained glass window adding to its charm.Close by we visited McKerricker State Park where we walked out to see the sea lions and their pups,(dogs in car) and on the way back did some exploring of tide pools. Next day we went into charming, little Fort Bragg and walked around visiting antique stores (Mendocino Vintage), shops (Well House West), art galleries, found the Skunk Train, the old Company Store building with historical pictures, a raw foods culinary school called Living Light, we even found the original Purity Market. We think Fort Bragg's a really beautiful little town with surprisingly lots of California Craftsman homes. We got hungry so headed to the harbor area, dined at the Wharf Restaurant (excellent) while watching the fishermen coming up the river. With happy bellies (all 4) we looked forward to our short 20 minute drive up the coast to OUR Retreat. With a flick of the switch the gas fireplace lit up just as the sun was setting. Wow was I in paradise? Yes!! Thank you so much to the owner of the Retreat. You were kind, helpful about every aspect of our visit. We'll return often and tell our friends.
