we prefer not to stay in large cities and this location was perfect for visiting Melbourne, beaches and surrounding areas, just a 15 min tram ride into the city - - - the tram departure point was just around the corner from the cottage. This is a beautifully renovated property in a cute residential section of Albert Park. Lots of restaurants, shops and even a market within easy walking distance. We were 2 couples visiting for 8 nights to attend the President's Cup and Sweeney Cottage worked out perfect for us. The cottage is very nicely appointed and had everything we needed - - the kitchen was well equipped (all the plates, etc. actually matched and were arranged neatly on the open shelves)- we ate in all but 1 night, even putting some shrimp on the barbie one night. This was a welcome respite at the end of each day following the golfers around the course. The beds were comfy, the bathrooms modern - - - everything was spotless. The owner was more than helpful - - - He actually helped us with our entire itinerary for a month-long trip to Australia. His suggestions were invaluable to say the least. We would definitely stay here again on a return trip and would recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you for the kind words. We do enjoy being able to help our guests. Albert Park is a great suburb to base yourself to explore Melbourne. It is close to everything and Sweeny Cottage is a haven to relax in and enjoy. Hope to see you again. Regards Ray Kirkwood

This place is fantastic for all- kids and adults! It is beautifully renovated and has all amenities, plus extra nice things to enjoy such as fantastic Bose radio system. It has all the details! The location is great- easy walking distance to beach and shops, but also to train and trams. The driving time to the city is only 10-15 minutes. The owner is a very nice gentleman. We stayed here for a long holiday and recommend this without reservation. When in Melbourne, this is the place to stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Hi Carolynn, We appreciate your review. We have tried to make Sweeny Cottage family friendly for short or long stays. There are many parks nearby and Albert Park is a beach side suburb which is great in summer. We would love to welcome you back. Cheers Ray

About the owner: Ray and Beth were keen to travel overseas with their children but didn’t want to stay in hotels or campervans so they rented cottages in the UK and Europe and owner vacation houses in America. Finding no similar self-contained accommodation back in their home town of Melbourne, they decided to put their experience and knowledge to good use and established Melbourne Boutique Cottages. After careful thought, they selected Cottages in two delightful inner suburbs of Melbourne. Elwood and Albert Park are considered safe, close to the city and have a wide choice of restaurants and shops close by. Beth used her knowledge from a Hospitality and Accommodation course and her work as an Occupational Therapist to equip the Cottages with quality and practical items. Ray’s background in the travel industry helped him to develop the booking system and establish the procedures that to this day maintain the Cottages at the highest standard. The result has been the creation of Melbourne Boutique Cottages which has received a consistent 4 1/2 star rating by AAA Tourism over 5 years and testimonials from hundreds of guests who have come to appreciate their home away from home. It is the attention to detail and the quality of the furnishings matched with the personal friendly greeting on arrival that separates Melbourne Boutique Cottages from the rest.
