The house was perfectly located on Sullivan's Island to walk to the restaurants. The close proximity to the beach was ideal especially with small children. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking elaborate dinners and the upgraded bathrooms were great. The sliding doors onto the porch really made the stay delightful although difficult to open and close. The tenant living in the rental below the house was a surprise- perhaps disclosure of this living situation could have been communicated. The WiFi was not working and the grills for barbecuing were dirty and unusable. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay and look forward to a visit again soon.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed the house and that you are interested in renting it again; we definitely will address any other concerns mentioned, it’s always good to get feedback, we want everyone’s beach experience a happy one. As for WIFI, we certainly do our best to make sure everything works, but sometimes that’s out of our control, we take every measure with our service provider (Comcast) to get things working properly, our apologies for it being down during your stay.

This is an older beach house that's been fairly well maintained. It was exactly as we expected; comfortable, close to the beach, clean and roomy. If you're looking for the Taj Mahal, this isn't it but it's a great spot and a great value for what you get. A close walk to the beach (perhaps 125 yards) lots of living room and a very workable kitchen. We'd go back anytime.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.

My family rated the location 5 stars, the house 3 stars, so overall 4 stars. It was very easy to rent, and the owner was extremely helpful before, during, and after our stay. Perfect location so close to the beach, but you can not see the beach or ocean from the house. 20 minute drive to historic Charleston, great for exploring. Photos accurately reflect the house appearance and amenities. Main parts of the house were very clean, lots of towels, but no extra sheets. In our opinion, the laundry area(which is downstairs, behind the house, and shared) could use some cleaning out, as could the kitchen cabinets, and the outdoor shower area. But otherwise, it is great basic rental, plenty of space, excellent wifi, and a good value for Sullivan's. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The perfect house for being close to the beach. The house was incredibly comfortable and worked well for our family of five. Everything was clean & neat. The screened-in front porch always had a nice breeze and was great for those afternoon naps after a long day on the beach. Bikes and skateboards are great for this island due to the nice roads and little traffic. Access to the beach is directly across the street from the house which makes it really nice. The three kids had a wonderful time in the water; skimboarding, swimming and building sand castles. My son and I rented a surfboard on the island and he surfed for the first time. There is a lot of history in the area, so before your stay at the house, make sure you do your research online. My daughter, who is 11, said it was, and still is, her "most favorite" vacation spot (and she has been all over the country). I would highly recommend to families with kids (young children to high school age)Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Every year for many years as many of my family members that can come to 2804 Marshall to commune with each other, the beach, and the wonderful ambience of Sullivan's Island. It is the best place for all kids no matter the age . The accommodations are casual, clean and inviting. Not upscale but with updated bathrooms and kitchen. We love the beach being so close and makes it easy to go back and forth for the restroom, baby naps, and PB&Js!! The evenings bring walks on the beach and long hours of catching up with each other while sitting on the porch and admiring the ocean view. The location is special as passerbys stop on their way to the beach or just riding and walking by. We have made many good friends this way. I love the feel of going "home" to see my family every year. I can't imagine going anywhere else. Restaurants are close for dining out or buying take out after a long day at the beach - all are Charleston quality dining experiences!!! Thank you for keeping the tradition alive!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the positive Post! Mark M.

We recently stayed at the Beach again and had a great time. We have been going here for over 20 years and love it. Yes it is not brand new and shiny, but that is what makes it so charming. We hope to returning here for the next 20 years.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children.

I have stayed at this beach house two different times and both were some of the best times I have ever had. The house is an older house but is very clean and is huge. The portch is a wonderful place to sit and relax and it is right across the street from the beach! My family loves it there!! It is agreat proce as well!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Perfect for families on limited budget. Pictures accurately show condition! You could not ask for a more equipped vacation rental. There's only a short walk to the beach and the large corner lot provides an abundance of room for BBQ's and a perfect area for the kids to play! We've enjoyed many summers here and "Blaine's house" is our home away from home!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the Post, I am glad you enjoyed your stay.

My wife and I try to get away once a month and this was the perfect place for a quiet time and yet close proximity to the beach, restaurants and shopping. This is more of a home than a house and makes you feel that way when there. We had stayed there in the past and love it every time. The home is in a safe location with lots of room. We look forward to visiting again one day. (Michael & Gus Gilbert,SC).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

From the moment you arrive, you can just "feel" the love and joy this family house gives all its guests. You may find bigger and fancier homes on this quaint island, but what you won't find, is the warm, comfortable feeling this house has! Sitting directly across the from the beach access, you can hear the ocean and feel its breeze while enjoying quality time on the front porch. It has plenty of room, provides everything you would ever need and is the BEST price! I wouldn't spend my money on any other house on Sullivan's Island, truly the best!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Year Purchased: 1977
About the owner: Our family has owned this house since 1977, the house was built in 1952 and like our neighbors the Rhapans on the left, and the Hickmans on our right, has survived even Hurricane Hugo. The other homes are simply new construction in a very special place, where the older island homes still stand. Our house is a typical pre Hugo house, that exudes more comfort and love rather than big screen tv's or elevators. We have hosted family weddings, birthdays and graduations from this privileged perch..all because Blaine and Gerry Miller were married here in downtown Charleston during WWII and decided after chasing a corporate dream to make 2804 Marshall Blvd home. There are two other homes on the island that are the same style and type as this house. One of which is also down the street on Marshall Blvd beachside. This is the spot where our kids have searched for sea treasure, made lemonade stands, learned to ride bicycles, count the pelicans named 'George and Myrtle' and greet people from their day at the beach. One thing to know if you are interested in renting our house..it is really the spot on Sullivan’s you are renting, not the brick and mortar. The house that sat across the street from ours hosted the great playwright Arthur Miller, and behind us in the little postage stamp cottage built in 1909..other writers have sought refuge. Sullivan’s is well known as the inspiration for the likes of Edgar Allen Poe, and Pat Conroy. If you do not know these names then perhaps the Holiday Inn would be better suited for your express vacation...
Why the Owner Chose Sullivan's Island:
Sullivan's Island is indeed a special place. Almost every step you take while visiting on this quaint little respit has some historical significance..it truly is NOT myrtle Beach, nor Destin or South Miami Beach or Hilton Head. It is it's own unique piece of history covered with an ambient heir of Tranquility. It is a place where families can manufacture great memories that will test grandfather time..it is safe and serene..
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Originally, Sullivan's Island was a waypoint for miscreants. It blossomed into a summer beach retreat for Charlestonians..and now is a place where several generations have called home....ours included.
Please be mindful in your visit of the precious Eco system that comprises our small barrier island, and the robust and burgeoning wildlife at waters edge. Sea Oats are scattered along the beach path as a hideaway for small rabbits, and serve as precious building blocks to prevent erosion. Sea turtles are also native and have visited the 28 station beach in front of our house many times over the years.
Last week I was at the house to put in new carpet, furniture and beds. Sitting quietly on the front porch about 1:30 a.m., I saw something I have never seen in the 35 years at our house..I watched with amazement, 2 small deer in the front yard grazing.
We sincerely hope you and your family enjoy this simple retreat as much as we have these three and half decades....sincerely and without reservation...Mark Miller
