An absolute beautiful, well-maintained vacation rental with every amenity one could need! Great location on Basin Cove with not one, but 2 nearby wharfs to purchase fresh lobster…both about 1 mile from rental. YUM! Great scenery and views of cove from rental or from relaxing Adirondack chairs on deck overlooking dock. Really…can’t wait to go back. Great restaurants/diners in nearby Brunswick, Hallowell, Bowdoinham, and Richmond…just to name a few.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This home provides a front row seat (Adirondack) to the most spectacular sunsets reflecting off the cove. The following morning you can go 2 miles around the cove and enjoy the sun's arrival at the Marina. You may run into sleepy eyed Lobstah men loading their boats! Best of all, when you are finished watching the sun rise, you can purchase your live lobsters, for that evening, as Erika’s opens for business. This is the perfect place for a family or group of friends to experience all that Maine has to offer. It is also a perfect hide-a way on the water for a romantic, relaxing vacation. We cycled over 100 miles of the coast. The Rocky Coastline and rural roads is a beautiful backdrop for road cyclists. The roads aren't very hilly and Maine is VERY BIKE FRIENDLY, with generous cycling lanes. There are plenty of opportunities for adventurists, you can sea kayak or kayak at many of the State parks and lakes. Hiking is abundant and a morning jog from this home to the marina and back is a great way to start the day! This family home has everything you need to accommodate your stay. If the evening brings a chill, cozy up to the fireplace and enjoy your Lobster dinner. By the way lobster was $3.99/ lb! We had fresh lobster three nights out of the six. Harpswell is located on the Mid coast making it a convenient location to access Portland or Freeport for shopping and night life. Travel north up the cost and visit the quaint harbor towns. Each town has its own personality and charm. Hallowell is just outside of Augusta- about 45 minutes north from Harpswell and is a great little town for same sex couples to enjoy an evening out. There are several coffee shops that have live musical entertainment nightly and a great Thai restaurant. My 2 favorite places to eat are the Broadway Deli in Brunswick- Awesome Fruit Pancakes and Greek Omelettes; and Pedro-Ohara's - a Mexican/ Irish pub. Yes I said Mexican/ Irish pub- What an experience! Both are tucked away in Brunswick. The owners of this beautiful home are extremely kind and make getting to and staying at their home very easy and stress free. Isn't that what a vacation is for!!! I recommend this coastal cottage to anyone and everyone who wants to experience the charm of New England and all that Maine has to offer! Thanks for a great Vacation!!!

This lovely, unpretentious house provides a perfect quiet spot for a small family or 2 couples to relax and enjoy the peaceful, rural coastal area below Brunswick. It's one among several small cottages on a quiet gravel road. Many seemed occupied only on weekends, which meant lots of quiet on weeknights. It is a family vacation home, not a neglected rental property. The house and its furnishings are exactly as pictured and described. Everything was very clean and in working order. The the kitchen is amply stocked with pots, pans, utensils, plates and glasses. It even has a dishwasher, washer and dryer. Bed linens and towels are provided. There is a propane grill and the tank had ample fuel. The Wi-Fi worked great. There were 2 televisions. I presume they work; we never tried them out, however. The house has two libraries well stocked, one for adults and another for children. There are puzzles and games aplenty. Appealing planters around the house augment lovely perennial plantings, giving the house a very welcoming feel. The owners are very helpful with directions and with guidance for enjoying the house. Maps, event calendars and information is provided in the house describing many wonderful things to do locally: excursions (Eagle Is.); outdoor activities; artist studios; historic sites; museums; walks and trails. There are also suggestions provided for local vendors for seafood, produce (farmers market in Brunswick Tues. & Fri.), baked goods and farm fresh eggs and milk. There are restaurants and lobster shacks nearby if you don't like to cook (Dolphin Marina is quite nice). There is abundant bird watching from the porch and dock and happily I found a bird guide on the shelf. Note to self: bring binoculars! The house sits on the northern end of a cove in coastal Maine. The tide varies 9 to 11 feet, so at low tide, water's edge is a vast mud flat. If you plan to swim, boat or kayak from the house's dock, you'll need to follow the tides. We didn't bring or rent this trip but instead opted for a guided sea kayak trip from Orr's Island. The base of the cove has an awesome tidal reversing falls akin to rapids. We were jealous of the folks wake-boarding and fishing in the cove at high tide and even more so of the kayakers in the falls. "Basin Cove Falls" is about a 1-mile walk from the house. The best I could do this trip was walk down and watch. Other note to self: bring kayak! We definitely recommend this house to like-minded friends and hope to return.

Owner response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Thank you for your complete and thoughtful description. It is important to us that people enjoy their stay. Come back and visit the cove when you can.

About the owner: This home is family owned. We are all originally from Pittsburgh, PA. but now only mom lives there. We love the quiet cove and watching the tides go in and out with all the wonderful wildlife that comes with this location. All of us like to be out on the water canoing, kayaking, and taking a swim. Now that we are a family living in various places on the east coast, this is our home meeting place. It offers all that our growing family enjoys.

Why the Owner Chose Harpswell (N,S,E&W):
We are all outdoor folks and this location let us get away from the crowds to enjoy all that we love.
