Absolutely Perfect Kauai Cottage!!

Guest: Biotechick829 (Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 08/01/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/12

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We absolutely loved the fact that we had such a secluded quaint cottage yet we were literally less than a half mile from secluded Waiakalua Beach (we were the only ones on the beach -- it felt like our own!). I'm writing this review a bit late, almost 10 months after our honeymoon. It is because we are already thinking of anniversaries to come and are planning on coming back to this cottage soon! We cannot wait! Thank you for helping us create an amazing honeymoon with memories that will last a lifetime.

Owner response:We are so happy to hear that such powerful memories of Hale Kokio live on for such a long period of time. It is our goal to provide a great experience for our guests. The property and its location speak for themselves. Please do return and thanks for the very kind words

Perfect!

Guest: Sean (Kansas)
Date of Stay: 07/18/11 Review Submitted: 08/27/11

We spent our 10 days for our honeymoon and enjoyed every minute of it! We felt like we had our own secluded piece of paradise even though we weren't far from any of the local shops and attractions. The cottage is very well equipped with all the necessities and is exceptionally clean/well maintained. I would highly reccomend Hale Kokio for anyone considering a trip to the North Shore.

Owner response:Hale Kokio is designed for that perfect get away feel. Thanks for bringing your Aloha to our little piece of paradise.

Relaxing, peaceful surroundings!

Guest: Elizabeth (Corvallis, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 06/09/11 Review Submitted: 06/23/11

We really enjoyed our week at Hale Kokio. It is a beautiful property on the north end of the island away from the resorts and hectic pace of the south side. It seemed a very Hawaiian experience for us. Coconut palms, banana plants, guava, orchids and other tropical vegetation soothed and delighted our senses. And of course, we could not forget to mention the chickens. They are so much fun to watch and listen.

Special Place for Anniversary Celebration

Guest: Cindy (Tucson, AZ)
Date of Stay: 05/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/07/11

Not sure how we chose Hale Kokio for our 20th wedding anniversary stay, but it was a perfect match for us. The place looked and felt like the pictures depicted. It had a very serene setting with an immaculate home, and well groomed grounds. We felt like we were the only ones there, with the exception of a couple of roosters. The hot tub was a welcomed feature especially after hikes and to relax. We appreciated all the modern appliances that we used for cooking and grilling fresh fish. We loved where the location of cottage is in the Kilauea area which sits conveniently between Hanalei and Kapa'a. We frequented the convenient bakery, deli, and restaurants in Kilauea. We also enjoyed the brief encounters with neighbor/caregivers of the property at the local farmer's market and restaurant. It was nice to know they were nearby if we needed anything but otherwise did not see or hear them during our stay. I definitely would visit again and recommend to friends and family. Mahalo for the hospitality!

Owner response:Hale Kokio and happy guests, a perfect combination. If you are planning a stay on the magnificent north shore of Kauai, then please give us a call. Kilauea is gaining popularity as an ideal location, and Hale Kokio is truly your home away from home.

Magical retreat!

Guest: Sandy amd Bruce (Ashland, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 05/19/11 Review Submitted: 06/01/11

'Magical' absolutely describes Hale Kokio. Tucked away in a lush private setting, this sweet cottage was the perfect slice of island life. Our time in the cottage was sandwiched between stays at large hotels on the island so the cottage was a huge contrast. And before arriving at the cottage, I guessed that we would take those few days and be out and about exploring. I have to tell you that we loved the life at the cottage so much we hardly left. We would go to Kilauea Bakery for breakfast, hike down to Secret Beach for a couple of hours, stop at the market for food and go back to the cottage for the rest of the day. We loved reading and dozing on the porch, soaking in the hot tub, barbecuing supper or an early dinner at the great choice of local restaurants and then back into the hot tub! Hale Kokio with all its amenities is everything one would wish for in an island retreat.

Owner response:Wow, you did live the life! Most of all you found the design of Hale Kokio to be just what we imagine for our guests: an inviting retreat. What an endorsement, to show that Hale Kokio inspired you to relax and enjoy Kauai. We hope you will return to Hale Kokio someday. Seems that for you it is "home away from home." Aloha.

Cozy, peaceful and beautiful with all the extras you need!

Guest: Cera (Eugene, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 05/04/11 Review Submitted: 05/24/11

My (now) husband stayed at Hale Kokio for two glorious weeks. It was amazing! It had everything we needed to cook (without a dishwasher, but we made due without) including a gas stove/oven and a gas grill for outdoor grilling. The bed was very comfy, and the bedding was nice and light for the weather. Great air circulation with the open windows and the fans. Let me take a moment to talk about the absolutely GORGEOUS grounds at Hale Kokio. You are on two private acres, only to be shared with the chickens that inhabit the place. They will wake you up promptly at 5:45 am. There are coconuts, passion fruits, bananas, and every kind of native flower you could ask for. Plumeria, hibiscus, bird of paradise, orchid (I loved how they just cling on to the other trees!). If you stay, make a morning of searching the grounds.. there are many surprises. Bring your camera! It is easy to find, and conveniently located. The north coast is very laid back, "old Hawaii", which is what we were looking for. Just 20 minutes from everything you need in Kapa'a, and 10 minutes from great shops and beaches in Princeville. You will enjoy your stay.

Owner response:We always appreciate comments from our guests and are so pleased to hear that Hale Kokio more than lived up to its promise. We do dedicate time to the orchids that grace the grounds, thanks for exploring and discovering them. Best wishes to the new couple. If you are planning a getaway to the magical north shore of Kauai, please contact us. We enjoy helping you with your plans for a great stay.

We stayed here for four nights and found the place to be even better than the pictures. It was nice to see fresh cut flowers waiting when we arrived and fruit from the grounds. Thanks for taking such good care of your place without even seeing us. It was like magic. We zoom in and everything was prepared for us.

Owner response:We are so fortunate to continue to capture the interest of perfect guests at Hale Kokio. Every review is read and considered carefully. Thank you and please do return. We promise to continue to provide the magic care that you have described. Please bring your Aloha back to Hale Kokio again.

We stayed 11 nights recently and could not have loved this place more. This was our 4th visit to Kauai and this cottage was ideally located and had all the amenities and more than you could ask for. Anyone wanting peace and quiet, natural beauty and all the fruit you can pick should choose this rental.

Owner response: Thank you so much for sharing your experience at Hale Kokio. The property is designed to feature the simple beauty of Kauai. We take special care to anticipate what our guests will need when visiting and continuously update amenities provided. We hope that you will return and that new guests, searching for accommodations on the North Shore will find your comments helpful. Mahalo.

We Had A Wonderful Time

Guest: Anna (Alaska)
Date of Stay: 11/29/10 Review Submitted: 12/17/10

We had a wonderful time! What a beautiful place! We very much enjoyed the immaculately clean and tastefully furnished cottage, the beautiful grounds and perfect privacy. We did a lot of snorkeling, hiking and "staying at home". It could not have been any better. For those interested in birds, we also enjoyed seeing some fellow Alaskans vacationing in the garden: golden plovers that had made their way here on their own wings. There was also a pair of white-rumped shamas, not native to the Hawaiian islands but lovely birds to watch. We would love to come back.

Owner response: We always appreciate feedback and hearing that Hale Kokio felt like home is wonderful. Please do return for another stay, as many of our guests do. And for those of you looking for an accommodation, just give us a call and we will help you plan for a stay on Hale Kokio, your own little piece of paradise while on Kauai. Mahalo

Wonderful honeymoon location

Guest: Sarah and Harley (New Hampshire, USA)
Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 09/27/10

We stayed here for our 10-day honeymoon in August, 2010, and we could not have picked a better location. Hale Kokio is in a very quiet, secluded spot in the NE corner of the island. We would sometimes sit in the lawn chairs out in on the property and just marvel at the silence. We would not hear anything except the breeze in the trees and the birds. Hale Kokio is as central a location as you can get without being in a crowded area. We could go west and explore the north coast, or south and explore the east and south coasts. When we were looking for places to stay, we had no idea about the designated "resort areas", and really lucked out to end up here. When we were out touring the island and found the condos+resorts all packed into the SE corner of Kauai, with families running around with screaming kids, it reminded me of Florida and I could not wait to get back "home" to Hale Kokio. There was a covered deck in the back (where the hot tub is located) and a dinette set where we ate breakfast every morning or relaxed if it was raining. The owners of Hale Kokio had quite a bit of equipment ready for us. Snorkel gear, lawn chairs, beach towels, coolers, linens, condiments, etc. The internet worked perfectly and was invaluable in planning each day's adventure. There were many books, dvds and cds, though we did not make use of them, too busy seeing the island! A clothes washer/dryer was supplied (with detergent), which was handy for cleaning a favorite outfit. Hale Kokio was immaculately cleaned inside. The property (yard) well well cared for with dozens of interesting species of fruit and nut trees growing in it. There were a handful of good restaurants in nearby Kilauea and many more in Kapaa, about a 15 minute drive south. The owners had one of the nearby houses, and gave us exactly the customer service we wanted: To be left alone. They left contact numbers, but we just did not need anything. I would most definitely recommend Hale Kokio to anyone wanting a quiet Kauai vacation and if I were returning to Kauai, I would want to stay there again.

Owner response:Thanks so much for your very kind words about your stay at Hale Kokio We take pride in presenting the property as inviting, pretty and shining clean. The amenities are all there, integrated in to the overall experience. The Hawaiian Island charm comes through from the authentic beauty of North Shore Kauai. Many of our former guests await their next trip to Kauai, with Hale Kokio the place of choice for their stay. Come back for a return stay or plan your special Kauai get away, just call and we are happy to help.

This was the perfect place to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were looking for something other than a hotel/suite experience and this exceeded our expectations. I would recommend Hale Kokio to anyone who is looking for a retreat away from the busy business world. The description accurately reflects the property. If you are looking for North Island adventure, this is the place to unwind after your busy day. The hottub and a glass of wine on the veranda is calling us back in the future.

Owner response:Our guests say so much more than we can to fully describe the magic of Hale Kokio. Each endorsement inspires us to continue provide to the highest quality of accommodation. We welcome return guests and invite new ones who are planning the celebration of a special event or honeymoon. Mahalo. A hui hou.

A beautiful retreat

Guest: Steve and Heather (Redlands, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/07/09 Review Submitted: 10/04/09

If you want a beautiful hideaway, this is it!! The grounds are wonderful, like a private park. Its quiet, relaxed and absolutely a wonderful retreat. Close to the main road yet far enough away so you never hear traffic, beaches a mile or so away and many good restaurants as well as grocery stores nearby. Rob and Lisa are close by and very nice, be sure and check out Rob’s jewelry and Lisa’s photo art. We liked it so much we extended our stay and will always cherish the memories of our time there. Truly a place of the “aloha spirit.” - Steve and Heather

My husband and I spent a week of our honeymoon (April 2008) at the Hibiscus House, and as we approach our one year anniversary, I felt compelled to thank Eleanor and her family for being such wonderful hosts. In our six nights there, we came to think of the house as our home, a place of respite after our busy days exploring and experiencing the island. The fully equipped kitchen and the beautifully appointed living area enhanced our feeling of being "home" away from home. The central location of the house was also a huge plus (we spent all our time north of Kapaa). I cannot say enough good things about this house. The pictures do not do it justice, but you will find they accurately represent the size and features of the house. The patio and the gardens created a sense of seclusion and intimacy that no hotel could ever replicate. We truly felt we had stumbled upon a piece of paradise that was, at least for a short while, just ours.

Hale Kokio was the perfect quiet retreat and well-located home base for us as we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary. The location was ideal for hiking the Napali coast and visiting Hanalei, but also going to Poipu and Lihue. The bungalow/cottage was peaceful, tastefully decorated, private and felt remote, although we were conveniently less than 1/2 mile from the main road around the island. The owners had very thoughtfully equipped it with everything we needed for our stay. We felt like we had Kauai to ourselves, but were only about 10 minutes from a big grocery store, which we visited a few times so we could prepare our own breakfasts and dinners. It was the perfect antidote to mainland stress to have Hale Kokio as our home away from home on Kauai. We will return.

The cottage was perfect! Exactly as described on the web page and talking with the owners before arriving. It is perfectly appointed with all the items needed to enjoy your time on Kauai. The rental property owners were gracious and very informative. Simply perfect! A lot better than a resort and very private. The cottage was clean, well decorated and located in between the sites that we loved so much during our stay.

We had a wonderful time on our second trip to Kauai 10/15-10/29/07. It was our first time renting a cottage vs. hotel, SO much better!! Hale Kokio was a very relaxing retreat, and so private. We both were able to unwind and be totally peaceful for our entire stay something I have a very hard time doing. The geckos, windchimes and rustle of the trees will lull you into a blissful sleep. We truly believe the locals when they say that the North Shore is a magical place, we returned home with long awaited news that we were going to become parents. Our beautiful baby girl Kealia Grace was born July 2008. We can't wait to bring her to Hale Kokio and show her all the beauty and magic of Kauai. I don't know of any other place we rather be. We are missing the cottage and Kauai very much this year. Hope to return soon. Until we meet again, Aloha and Mahalo. Dawn,Josh and Kealia Grace
