We are offering you the possibility of enjoying a home once you arrive in Buenos Aires. If you need it for one week or more, our apartment (968 square feet, 90 square meters) with 3 bedrooms, accommodating up to 5 people is an excellent choice!

This was our former home, totally refurbished and modernized. Modernization, by the known architect Mariana Bishof, finished in March 2007. We used the finest equipment and materials available. Your future sun flooded home is located in Libertad 1693 (fifth floor) in the Recoleta quartier. Recoleta is at present the most exclusive, fashionable and vibrant area of the capital of Argentina. And this is one of the best apartments available.

Staying there you will feel no need for an expensive and anonymous hotel room, even a 5-star hotel room. Our home is definitely better, & will cost you only a small fraction of what you would have spent in that hotel. It is the difference between living in a home or staying in a depersonalizing place, even in a top hotel. The building is a vintage residential building, 8 stories high, built in the 1930's, elegant & in very good condition, with genuine old world charm. It has 2 elevators, broad comfortable staircases and ample lobbies in each floor and in the entrance to the building.

You will be living among authentic "porteños", quite upper middle class homeowners and their families.

Both rooms are furnished with brand new furniture of the best quality, while decorated and illuminated in modern style, combined with some family souvenirs from Vienna, Austria. Relax with a library with classical books in English and German.
On the floor of this area as well as in the two larger bedrooms, you will notice a traditional luxurious Slavonian oak parquet. Walls decorated with original latin American paintings.

Staying in Libertad 1693 gives you some very special advantages which seldom are found in one single propriety: it is a very classy category building with ample staircases and halls, confortable lifts, where mostly upper midle class families live. It is 30 meters away from Patio Bullrich, the most fancy and luxurious mall in the city, and at 5 to 10 minutes walk from most destinations downtown. If you need a taxi, just coming our of the building, you can flag down the first taxi coming down the stree, which should not take more than a few minutes. And, last not least, it is in a top security area, where you can go out or come back at any time of the day and the night without any safety problem.

This apartment was the place where my brother and I grew up. Later on, when we had our own families, we moved out, but were only too conscious about what a special place we had been living, in spite that in our younger years we took it for granted to live in such a top location, without being aware that we were very privileged. In this apartment we spent all our school and university years, and still today our friends remember it in a very special way. It has been fully refurbished by a well known architect, but due to some original books and furniture from Vienna, it still maintains that unique european style and athmosphere.

    • We had a very good stay in Buenos Aires. Your apartment suited us nicely. The location is great. It's easy to get taxis going in any direction. The neighborhood is very pleasant with many restaurants, cafes, clubs and parks within easy walking distance. In case anybody asks about estancias, I would recommend overnight stays at El Ombú in San Antonio de Areco, and La Oriental located about 250 Km west of Buenos Aires. They were both lovely, especially so because we were off-season, I think. Each has a website for additional info. For even more information on estancias, google Red Argentina de Turismo Rural. Avis, Thrifty and Deitrich car rental agencies are very conveniently located. You may want to include that information in your correspondence with visitors. I left several restaurant recommendations, etc in your Visitors Notebook. Thanks for your general assistance. We had an excellent time in Argentina. Ciao!

    • Ricardo and Pedro are great people to work with. We had two groups of people travel on seperate planes with various delays and issues. But Ricardo and family were so flexible and understanding with all issues. They were great. As far as the appartment. It is clean and close and convienient to all attractions in the area. Very nice set up. On reccomendation from Elsa we took the train to Tigre, what a nice trip. We went to flea markt there and also took the tour thru all waterways. It was intresting and a lot of fun. If traveling to BA their appartments is perfect for all activities. - Enjoy

    • Congratulations to brothers, Ricardo and Pedro Backer! Their commitment to quality and good taste has resulted in an attractive, comfortable and convenient headquarters in Recoleta from which to enjoy this marvelous city. We found the location to be ideal for our explorations during the past ten days. There are good restaurants and shops nearby. But, most importantly, it is a central location with ready access to cabs day and night. As an added bonus, it was easy to tell taxi drivers “Libertad y Libertador,” the corner where the building is located. The sparkling apartment, with its modern appliances, great entertainment system, new furnishings, shining kitchen and bath were seductive. We almost didn’t want to leave. As a result, some mornings we started our day much later than we had planned. We knew the minute we walked into the apartment that we were in a grand place. We were especially appreciative of Ricardo’s suggestions and recommendations of both restaurants and places to visit in Buenos Aires and in the lovely neighboring city of Tigre. It was an asset to have a Porteño, resident of Buenos Aires, nearby to answer our many questions. The warm welcome we received from Ricardo’s assistant, Georgina, Ariel, who drove us from the airport, and building “super,” Pedro who greeted us daily with a smile, set the tone for our stay. Together and separately, we have traveled throughout much of the world. This was our first visit to Buenos Aires. This cosmopolitan city is now high on our list of favorites. We both want to return – not only to revisit Buenos Aires (and take more tango lessons!) but also to travel throughout Argentina. We will definitely stay at Casa Backer on our next trip.

      Well, strictly speaking, Amy and Jack were our second guests. The first ones had sent us an email praising us and the apartment. So that when, later, Amy and Jack requested this section, we had to start looking for it. Fortunately VRBO provides this opportunity. It was a pleasure having them as guests, and we hope to see them again when they return to Buenos Aires.

      This is the first, introductory, comment, by one of both apartments owners: Pedro Bäcker, living in Spain, to introduce our future guests to this guestbook. My brother Ricardo and myself, we did not consider important to bother our guests with comments in a guestbook. Well, this was our first and original idea. But guessed what happened? Our first guests were so delighted by our beautiful former home that they asked Ricardo to write some coments. No guestbook was available! So, Ricardo asked them to write their impressions into another book, available at our place. He then wrote me an email, today, May 24th, 2007, about this small problem, and I, remembering the opportunity VRBO gives its rentors for a guestbook, just implemented it at their internet site. This said, I really want to assure all our potential guests that when we started restoring and refurnishing 5 months ago our family home in Libertad 1693, Recoleta, Buenos Aires, we decided we would not spare costs and would transform it into a top top place, so that confort and homelyness be similar to the location of the building and to the friendliness of the sunnny rooms. We worked with a young, well known and brillant lady architect, Mariana Bischoff, and this proved to be an excellent teamwork. Mariana not only presented us a beautifull design, but also showed later excellent taste in decorating and furnishing our place. Thank you Mariana! The result of this teamwork can be now judged and evaluated by all our guests.
