  My wife and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The location was perfect. We were a minutes walk from downtown Southwest Harbor and enjoyed the local food and shops. The cottage itself was exceptionally clean and accommodating. Barbara and Bill were very welcoming and a joy to do business with. We highly recommend this cottage, and we would love to come back next summer!

  The Cottage is exactly as advertised and had every amenity one could want including a portable folding chair and stool to use for sitting outside, and even 2 yellow rain jackets to use in case of inclement weather. The property was comfortable, clean and obviously well maintained. The owner, who lives right next door, brought extra towels thinking that we might not have enough. The location was a bit of a walk to the center of town. Internet WiFi was spotty. We stayed for one week and it was a good base for all activities around Mt. Desert Island and in Acadia NP. We particularly enjoyed dinner at the Red Sky Restaurant in Southwest Harbor.

  Recommended for: Age 55+.

  I recently spent two heavenly weeks at the Artist's Cottage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Located in a quiet neighborhood in this lovely village/town, this comfy cottage is well designed and maintained. Filled with beautiful art work and country antiques, its quiet setting offers the perfect reprieve from a day of hiking, bicycling and photographing . The owners (an artist and professional tour guide) made me feel like right at home and were always available to answer questions about the region and suggest interesting places to visit. Southwest Harbor has good restaurants and shops and is only a 15 minute drive from Acadia National Park. I loved the library and the bird carving museum in particular. I highly recommend the Artists's Cottage!

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

  I felt the thoughtful presence behind the welcoming table set for a meal, the charming, well-maintained furnishings, the spacious sleeping accommodations with a sitting area, and respect for the guests. The location was convenient for all sorts of activities, from exploring the outdoors to shopping in a village and being near restaurants. I apprecieated the nearby food market and specialty market, which had excellent produce, meats, and cheeses. The owners were excellent hosts. The only things I missed were a lamp for reading near the wing chair, and, in the kitchen, a 2-quart pot and a larger skillet.

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

  My wife and I stayed in the Artist's Cottage for a week in July '08. The cottage was cozy, clean, and comfortable, and the 1st morning's scones were delicious. We felt at home as soon as we got in. The neighborhood is quiet, but convenient to all parts of Mount Desert Island, and within a short walk to downtown Southwest Harbor for a nice dinner or shopping. I would recommend this property to any couple that wants a quiet place to stay while exploring Acadia NP and Mount Desert Island. (Definitely too small for anymore than 2 people.) We spoke to some other folks who were staying in Bar Harbor, and they were jealous of our quiet accommodations on the West Side of the island. Can't wait to return.
