My family of 5 rented this property in early June 2011. Although I expected some level of remoteness, the research I did on the property and island did not prepare me for what I found. It became a chore to maintain decent food stocks due to the distance to the supermarket and the quality of the merchandise. Most everything is shipped in - resulting in little, if any, ripe fruit or fresh vegetables. We used the local Reverend, but found he could offer none better. I felt a great heartache for the level of poverty the locals dealt with on a daily basis. I observed a great deal of drunkenness and sorrow as we traveled the island. I rented the car from the owners. The property was in disrepair. Being right on the ocean bluffs, the rusted, inoperable windows were common throughout the house - which became a problem at night when the power went out, AC was eliminated and voracious insects were on the prowl. The water supply was negligible and air conditioning was little more than fans - as the freon was obviously long gone. On opening the hatch to the water source under the living room floor, I found it almost dry. This explained the problems we had maintaining pressure and hot water for bathing. I was most unhappy to find the diving conditions less than ideal - with no game to be found after much searching and endless struggles with the leaky boats and broken rigging we were provided. I assume the only source of protein for the locals led to that situation, as the fish sure seemed to understand my intent. Although it is possible to reach the deeper outer reefs with scuba and expensive dive boats. I tried to keep the kids spirits up under these conditions, and did find we missed the common luxuries less and less, and depended on each other more and more, as the week went on. From that standpoint, I think we under appreciate and take for granted the great gifts the Almightly has bestowed upon the USA.

We rented the Big Spectacular house and the Banana Wind for the entire month of May! The houses were both amazing and all of our guest were more then pleased. There is a beautiful private beach right at your back door with excellent snorkeling. The view is absolutely stunning especially watching the sunset. The big house is perfect for large groups and family because there is plenty of room so everyone has their privacy yet has very large comfortable common areas like the living room, kitchen and deck so to enjoy everyone's company. The Banana Wind is perfect for a couple or a small group of people. It is perfectly located right on the beach and is walking distance from the big house. The caretaker of the house, is phenomenal! He is always a phone call away. If you don't feel like cooking, there is an amazing chef that is available. All the houses are very clean and maintained very well. Cat island is a must see destination and any one of Bannister Peachtree homes are perfect and can accommodate big or small groups. I would highly recommend this property! This is our second year there and we are all looking forward to next year!

We stayed at the Ocean front home for a week in December. Everything was above our expectations. The listing accurately describes all of the amenities and activities. The Ocean views and sounds of the waves from the balconies and bedroom were breathtaking. This was the most relaxing vacation I have been on. The house was very clean and spacious. We rented a vehicle from the owner and it was very dependable. There were many movies to pick from the Video and DVD library. I even read a few of the books on the book shelves. The sunsets were spectacular and sitting on the large balcony in the evening we were able to watch shooting stars go across the sky. Reynold and Janice the care takers were very acoomodating. We went fishing with Reynold one day on his 28' boat in the Ocean. Janice made us a fish dinner with the catchings from the day, plus very tasty side dishes. Everyone on the island was friendly. The owner answered all of our questions in a timely manner and gave us many suggestions as to activities to do on the Island. We would definately recommend this house and Cat Island to others, as a matter of fact I have mentioned it to several people at work and told them if they wanted a piece of Heaven to take a weeks vacation on the Oceanfront home on Cat's Island . I hope we can go back someday.
