Why the Owner Chose Eastsound
Welcome to Huckleberry House!
We purchased it in 2006 when we were compelled by family issues to return to the mainland after a short but delightful six years of living in the islands. It was a way for us to keep our "foot in the door" and have a place to stay while visiting the good friends we made while we lived here. Now we mainly come stay in the off-season (because you all have it booked for most of the summer!) and we really enjoy the central location. When we lived here, we were on an outer island and Eastsound was an hour away from our home! So for us it's a big treat to walk into "town" for coffee at Darvill's or lunch at Rose's. Both Deer Harbor and Moran State park, where we love to walk and hike, are short, scenic drives away. We love Orcas because it provides the best of both worlds: outdoor activities as well as some good eats and fun shops. I know you'll find our house and Orcas Island as relaxing and charming as we do!
Cheers!
Pam & Steve Guyer
With fun shops, good eats, a farmer's market in season and live entertainment!
Great kid-friendly beach with grassy area and picnic tables. With boots at very low tides you can walk to Indian Island!!
Hiking, swimming, boat rentals, fishing, historic CCC viewing tower at the top of Mt Constitution...not to be missed!
Most scenic drive on Orcas...kayaking, end of pier ice cream and burgers, beach walking at lower tides
About 15 minute drive to Huckleberry House. Walk on the ferry FREE to visit other San Juan Islands!

Romantic escape from a busy life!!!!

Oh my goodness!! This place was exactly what my husband and I needed to get away and focus just on each other!! Its like a shot in the arm or sheer tranquility and peace! The cottage is so well styled and up to date...the bedding, mattresses, fixtures, granite tiles and the craftsmanship of this place is endearing yet classy. Its timeless yet not pretencious. Its like Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. The setting, which is nestled amongst towering evergreens and the stunning ocean of the Puget Sound is breathtaking. We loved the spacious feel of the cottage and yet it was so warm and cozy. Loved sleeping in the loft and having the fire down below heat the whole house. The area this place is located is fantastic! We walked into town and shopped all the quaint shops and ate at gourmet restaurants. We loved jogging in the mornings down to the bay and strolling the sand for agates and shells. I loved this place and the memories we made here will last a lifetime! Thanks Pam and Steve for creating such a jewel in the great big woods!

Pros: Convenient location, clean, nicely decorated, kitchen relatively well-stocked. The property itself was nice and spacious. It was fun to walk right into town (about a 10 minute walk), and to the beach. There are nice runs to be had from the house, and the house is close to farms and other beaches. It was a nice getaway. Cons: The owners were difficult to get a hold of. I would call or email numerous times before hearing back, if at all. Also, the trash situation was nonsense. You either have to pack out your own trash off of the island, or pay $8-10/bag for a service to take it on the island, and the service is not often open. This was not made clear in the contract, and when we asked the owner about it, he never responded. Lastly, although the upstairs bedroom is a loft, know that it is very close to the dining and living rooms, so within earshot of everything going on. If you're looking to sleep in, sleep in the bedroom behind the kitchen. I'd recommend this house for just one couple, otherwise it's not practical for multiple couples since one bedroom is almost in the living room.
Owner response:We appreciate all the positive aspects of our home mentioned above, we love the location too! We realize that at times we are slow in responding and are actively working on improving our response times. As you may imagine, garbage disposal is a huge challenge for residents and visitors alike on any small island. Our policy for dealing with trash is very common among vacation rental homes on Orcas Island. The policy is stated in our rental agreement. We are working on finding a more convenient solution for our guests. It's important to me that you have all the information you need to make the best decisions for your vacation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about Huckleberry House.

Fantastic home - clean, cozy, very comfortable. We had a wonderful stay at the Hucklebery House on Orcas Island. Everything worked perfectly. Very well furnished and lots of nice extras. Added to our wonderful experience on Orcas Island. We would stay here again and recommend you do too. Owners were great to work with as well. Thanks, Craig & Joni
Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words about our house and for being our first reviewers. It's been my goal to set up the house as a place that we ourselves would pay to stay in. It's very gratifying to know that I have succeeded. I hope you have the opportunity to stay at Huckleberry House again!
Recommended for:Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
