We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The owners were awesome at reaching out to us, especially since we were trying to book on such short notice. We have 4 girls (ages 6, 4, 3, and a baby) and we were very comfortable with the accommodations (we brought our own port-a-crib, but that was about it.) Loved the wood burning stove, the loft, the deck, the location, the kitchen....everything! Thanks!!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Cozy cabin with all the comforts of home. Sitting area, loft bedroom and main floor bedroom, wood stove and forced air to keep warm, nice kitchen and dining area with table with leaf so it can be larger, washer and dryer, and nice bathroom. There's a lot in a small space, but it didn't feel crowded either. We say "cabin," but it is really a nicely decorated, comfortable living space that suited our needs. It definitely wasn't "roughing" it. The owner is really friendly and accommodating, and we'd recommend this place to any of our friends and relatives. Located just a short walk or drive to Eastsound. Filtered view through pretty trees to the water. Lots of manuals and helpful lists to make you feel at home and take advantage of what they have included for your convenience. Thank you for such a great stay!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

Hi Pam, I just wanted to drop a note to let you know how much [my husband] and I enjoyed staying at the Huckleberry House. It was just the perfect location for us and it is such a charming cottage ..lovely views and a short walk to the village. We were very happy. It is very nice to be able to cook in and the kitchen was very well stocked. We are back home and are going through a bit of "island withdrawl" I was going to add that we would very much like to stay next year around the same time. Perhaps, you could let me know how soon we would need to make a reservation. Again we thank you for opening your delightful home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Obstruction Pass State Park
"The park is one of the few spots on Orcas Island with access to more than one mile of publicly-owned saltwater shoreline. A half–mile trail leads visitors from the parking area to the campground and beach access. There are several fine gravel pockets of beach and moderate to high bank waterfront on the remainder of the property. Here's a link to driving directions and more information: http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/?selectedpark=Obstruction%20Pass "

"So much to do here! 5,252 acres of park with over 30 miles of hiking trails. Beautiful lakes with swimming, fishing, row boat and paddle boat rentals. Mt Constitution, the highest point in the San Juans has an historic CCC lookout tower. On a clear day, you can see from Canada to Mt Rainier! Not to be missed on a visit to the San Juan Islands. Here's a link to the trail map: www.parks.wa.gov/.../parks/Moran%20State%20Park%20Brochure.pdf Our favorite hikes are the lake loops. And a drive to the Mt Constitution lookout is a must when the weather is clear."

Kitchen
"Much loved by locals, the Kitchen offers organic, locally sourced ingredients prepared with Asian flavors. A casual outdoor eating area under the trees, a kids menu as well as beer and wine for their parents. And this just in...they have added a cocktail lounge next door, the Barnacle. Possibly best of all, you can join your kids in the restaurant seating areas with your adult beverages :)"

turtleback mountain preserve
"Beautiful hike on Orcas Island. If you want a steepish climb to the good views, use the south entrance. If you prefer a longer more leisurely walk in the woods, use the north entrance. Here are the details and a map: www.otterspond.com/Turtlebackmap.pdf Additionally, if you're driving from Eastsound, I recommend taking Orcas Rd to Deer Harbor road and taking a right there. It only takes a couple extra minutes and you get to spend a bit more time on the very scenic Deer Harbor Road."

Orcas Village Store
"Right at the ferry landing on Orcas Island. Perfect for provisioning whether you're arriving or departing. Upscale grocery selection. Quality deli meats and cheeses. A good wine selection (spirits sold across the street). House made sandwiches and salads with love in them. Take and bake pizzas for when you're driving off the ferry late with no dinner plans or ideas. Friendly staff. Go here!"

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Steve and Pam on Cascade Lake Bridge, Moran State Park, Orcas Island
Why the Owner Chose Eastsound:
Welcome to Huckleberry House!
We purchased it in 2006 when we were compelled by family issues to return to the mainland after a short but delightful six years of living in the islands. It was a way for us to keep our 'foot in the door' and have a place to stay while visiting the good friends we made while we lived here. You'd never know it if I didn't tell you, but it was actually built in the 60's and completely renovated inside and out shortly before we purchased it. We really like that it's lived on the island so long. We also really enjoy the central location. When we lived here, we were on an outer island and Eastsound was an hour away, so it's a big treat for us to be able to walk into 'town' on a whim. We love Orcas because it provides the best of both worlds; amazing outdoor activities as well as good eats and fun shops. I know you'll find our house and Orcas Island as relaxing and charming as we do.
Cheers!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
May I just say location, location, location!!!
Staying right in the center of Orcas Island gives you easy access to the 'ends' of the island if you'd like to explore during your visit. And if you just want to stay home and relax at the house, it's really nice to be so close to the village that you can easily walk or drive there in a few minutes for coffee or a little shopping or a meal or the groceries to make one back at the house.
Enjoy!
