  We arrived here after a long day of flying and waiting at the airport while a rental vehicle was found. The property manager greeted us pleasantly upon our arrival. Then we were informed that we would need to take our own 5 gal bottle of water to our rental. My housemate graciously picked it up and proceeded to walk to our rental. Upon arriving at the first of two sets of steps we found ourselves in total darkness. The manager went down to the house and managed to get the motion detector light to go on which did not help when navigating the first set of steps. She showed us our rental and then departed. We stulmbled up the dark staircase and walked to the bar/grill next door for dinner and a little Super Bowl watching. Worn out, we returned to go to bed. That is about all we got to do. It was a bed but the environment offered NO sleep. My bed pillow smelled like mold so I tossed it aside. The windows have obscured jalousies and sheer curtains. The bar/grill has a security light that burns all night long so it was like daylight in our rooms. The noise was still loud so I shut my windows and turned on the a/c. The a/c sounded like a freight train so that had to be turned off! Ad states NEW A/C!!! The rental is about 30 or so feet from the main road which has cars/motorcycles all night long zooming around. After no sleep, we got up and decided that we could not stay there. We found another place and came back to retrieve our belongings. The property manager did not understand why we would want to leave. I said there was no peace or tranquility as the property description declared. She informed me that there was on the dock!! ..like we could sleep there. Not only did she refuse to return any of our deposit which was for 1/2 the total for 10 days...she actually said I had a contract and owed her more money! She tried to explain to me that all of the places on the island have the traffic problem which of course is not true. I showed her how loud the a/c was and she stated that hers was that loud....like that would make me want to stay?? We did ask if there was anything else available on the property but she said everything was full. We decided that we would just absorb our loss and move on so that we could enjoy our trip! Maybe a bunch of partying college students would be happy in this rental but they are about the only ones who could possibly sleep with the noise and light!

  Owner response: This guest arrived sleep deprived as many do and on Super Bowl night which is widly celebrated on the Island. That night was not a good match for you and we are sorry for that. We are glad that you found what you wanted and were able to move on and enjoy your holiday as you have so many years in a row on Roatan! Our home has been rented for over 14 years and is very popular and a great time is had all around. We have many return guests year after year. Our property manager is a great lady and we are very pleased with her and her husband.

  I can't remember if I already submitted a review or not. If so, it got deleted. I stayed there for the month of July, 2010, and had the best vacation ever. I entered a whole 'nother realm of relaxation and marine beauty. I never met the owners themselves, but I want to say thanks for letting us use the house. The less-than-perfect stuff first: 1) The house is not "on the beach". Who cares? It's literally a two-minute walk. 2) that said, there really isn't a beach anyway. Who cares? Much of Roatan just isn't beachy. There's a GREAT shaded dock over deep water for snorkling, swimming, and hammocking. 3) Mosquitoes and sand flies. Who cares? (well, actually you might care if you ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time without repellent). It's the tropics, deal with it, and there were never ever any unpleasant bugs of any kind in the house, on the screened porch, or on the dock. 4) The location of the house, in sort of a low spot among trees, makes it apparently less airy, light, and breezy than its neighbors. But it was breezy enough, even in July. 5) The spotlight from the adjacent development shines right on the dock at night. It just needs to be shielded better. I'm hoping they can do that. But sitting on the dock at night was still great, you just had to face the other way. I know...it's a small thing and nit-picky, but I'm a weirdo and like my night-dark dark and my daylight light. The good stuff: 0) The Caribbean Sea here is amazing, beautiful, healthy, clear, and warm. 1) Sundancer is a well-planned development, with lots of privacy and quiet. 2) Unlimited free fresh mangoes right outside the door. 3) Snorkeling from the dock...it's a little swim over beds of eel-grass to the reef proper, but...who cares? I loved it. 4) The house itself...which is very pretty, well-kept, spacious, and infinitely comfortable. 5) Hummingbirds everywhere (hint: bring a small feeder). 6) Away from the bustle of town (West End) but only a few minute drive or a couple-buck cab ride, or about an hour walk. 6) The air conditioners rock. We only used them at night. They rapidly cooled the bedrooms, even the loft, and were quiet. 7) Oh, yeah, there's a pool. Looks nice, I guess...but there's also a crystal-clear ocean. No-brainer. 8) Internet worked fine. 9) The Sundancer people were really nice and helpful. 10) Jerk-burgers at the Blue Parrot. Will definitely go back to Sundancer, and probably this house if available.
