Superb Home

Guest: MSGT (NC)
Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/23/12

My family and I stayed there the 17-20 February 2012. I have never been more pleased with a vacation rental than I was with this on. Super clean and very convenient to any ski resort and places to eat out if you choose to. The view from the screened porch were breath taking and the development where it is located is beautiful. The owner (Debra Jo) was very hospitable and a pleasure to work with on the dates. We definitely plan to reserve again next year and hope to continue the routine for years to come. Thanks for everything Debra, you made our ski trip a very enjoyable one.

A WONDERFUL place to stay...

Guest: Natalie (Claremont, NC)
Date of Stay: 06/27/11 Review Submitted: 07/07/11

Hello Debra Jo! I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at the cabin last week. It was such a pleasure to have a place that all 4 generations of my family could be comfortable in. My grandmother had such a good time she did not want to leave. Everything was so accessible for her in her wheelchair. She enjoyed many cups of coffee on the proch rocking chairs. My daughter at 11 years old also had enough to keep her entertained as well. She was a BIG fan of the beautiful waterfall near the cabin. She was also a BIG fan of the internet access so she could stay connected with her friends. We made many memories that we will cherish forever! I have already promised my grandmother that we will return next year. I also appreciate the safety and security that we as women traveling alone were able to feel on Buck Mountain. Again...Thank you for a wonderful getaway.

Owner response:Thank you so much, Natalie! We were so happy to have all FOUR generations of your family there to make such wonderful memories. Our mission is to fill our vacation homes with laughter and love and you guys did a GREAT job of that! We look forward to your next visit! All The Best, Debra Jo

Fabulous Mountain Vacation at Fawn!

Guest: Trish (The Florida Keys)
Date of Stay: 06/10/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

My family and I had a wonderful experience at the Fawn Cabin and will definitely be back! Having young kids worked out great because the cabin is all on one level. There is also a handicap ramp. The porch runs the full length of the home and was great for relaxing in the rocking chairs overlooking the gorgeous panoramic mountain views. The house was sparkling clean with an abundance of amenities. The master bedroom had a king size comfortable bed with a huge walk in master bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and shower! It was just like being in a resort. Getting to the cabin was easy, the road off the main highway leading up to the cabin was very wide and well maintained, so you felt safe. We enjoyed many nearby attractions, but our favorite, that we went back to several times because it was so close and FREE, was the big waterfall located in the community, only 5-10 minutes away from our cabin. We got to hike and wade our feet in the spring fed lagoon and have a picnic while exploring nature. There was also a fish pond we never got to see because we ran out of time! Our cabin was so comfortable, that we spent many evenings by the fire pit roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. If you like wine, be sure to check out Grandfather Mountain Winery which just opened and may not be listed in the travel guides. Another great experience that did not cost a lot was touring Grandfather Mountain. When you enter the park you receive a CD that you insert into your cars CD player, and it gives a complete guided tour while driving in your car to the top of the mountain. One last comment, the water out of the tap tasted so naturally good tasting with no chemicals added, just fresh mountain water, you won't have to go through bottled water here. Thank you Debra Jo for providing me with a clean vacation rental for my whole family to enjoy. Your service was professional and the caretaker was very accommodating, we have referred you to several of our friends.

Owner response:we are so thriled that your family was able to make such treasured memories at our cabin. Please come back and see us again!

Can't Wait to Return!!! :)

Date of Stay: 05/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/27/11

Sorry it's taken me so long to get around to writing this review, but I didn't want to let another minute go by without broadcasting what a fantastic time we had @ this beautiful mountain cabin for our daughter's graduation last May. Everything was just as wonderful as Debra Jo described & the cabin is so comfortable & sparkling clean. We actually had the pleasure of meeting Debra Jo & her caretakers in person & they truly go above & beyond to make your stay the best it can be. When she heard we were out of wine glasses, Debra Jo, who happened to be staying @ her other cabin on Buck Mtn, went right out & got us some. She also invited us to her other cabin (which is also beautiful!) so we could look around. We had family in town for the graduation & some of them stayed in Blowing Rock. I must say that the ease of getting on the Blue Ridge Parkway from the cabin is as simple as pie & we took that beautiful route to meet our relatives there instead of going thru Boone. The sights along the Parkway between Hwy 421 & Blowing Rock are awesome! I know Boone & the surrounding towns (Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Elk River, Roan Mtn, TN) very well, but I had never been to Buck Mountain before & was so very pleasantly surprised. My daughter, grandson & I stayed in the cabin alone the 1st two nights & felt perfectly safe & secure in this lovely, private gated community. There was ample space for all of our guests & we really enjoyed everything about the cabin ~ especially the master suite w/ jacuzzi, huge kitchen, incredible screened in porch, the grill, & the ramp, which made unloading a breeze! The waterfall was also gorgeous. My only regret was that we only went to it once! I have read the previous reviews & have not seen W. Kerr Scott Reservoir mentioned. This a gorgeous state park with a playground, swimming area & a huge dam with beautiful views & it's only about 10 minutes from Fawn Forest! We actually went there twice. Nearby restaurants I would recommend are Canyons (in Blowing Rock taking the parkway from the cabin), Hokkaido's (wonderful & reasonable Japanese food) in Boone on Hwy 321, Joe's (Italian) & Los Arcos (Mexican) off Hwy 321 on Boone Heights Dr. (near Walmart), also in Boone. There are many more expensive restaurants around, but the ones I have listed here turn out great, reasonable food consistently. I am running out of characters, so just let me say thanks again, Debra Jo! Hope you enjoyed the coupons & we will be be back! :)

Owner response:Laura, It was such a pleasure to meet you! I used all of my dog treat coupons you left for me and nani thanks you! Your review is perfect. I like the same eateries And Kerr Scott like you do and loved reading what a great time you had. We look forward to having you back next year. I want to come one day and extreme coupon with you!! All The Best, Debra Jo

The best family vacation

Guest: Michele (Sebring, Florida)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 01/06/11

We enjoyed our vacation so much in this wonderful home. It has everything you need to just relax and feel at home. We met our kids from two different areas of North Carolina here at this property. It was a family reunion to remember. Very clean, nice, and located close to everything. I am looking forward to staying at one of their properties again. The waterfall was breathtaking as all of the views around the cabin. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.

Owner response:THANK YOU, Michelle!! We loved having your family! Our mission is to fill our vacation homes with laughter and love and I can tell that you guys helped us with lots of both! You are welcomed back anytime and stay a week and I will give you a night for free!! Debra Jo

A wonderful place to relax!

Guest: kathie (NC Piedmont)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/12/10

My husband and I just returned from a much-needed week's vacation at Fawn Forest Cabin. It was our first time on Buck Mountain, and we could not have asked for a better place to stay. We found the cabin to be exactly as it's described. Debra Jo provided detailed information right down to perfect driving directions to get to the cabin, and once we arrived and got unpacked, we didn't have to worry about another thing. While it was hotter than we had expected it to be (when is it ever 90+ degrees in the mountains?), we spent hours each evening rocking on the screened-in porch enjoying the night sounds and the warm breezes. We even watched/heard a thunderstorm roll in on our last night there. The kind-sized bed is to die for, the master bath with jacuzzi was huge, and the kitchen has everything you could ever need (including lots of room to move around). Make sure you go see the community waterfall and stick your feet in the (cold!) mountain stream or just drive around Buck Mountain to enjoy the views. I would definitely recommend Fawn Forest to anyone wanting a relaxing time away from it all, whether for a night, a weekend or longer.

Owner response:Thank you for your wonderful review! I so agree that driving around Buck Mountain is well worth the time with so much to see and experience. We love the hiking trails by the fishing pond. It is a magical place! Please come back and see us anytime! Thanks Again, Debra Jo

My wife and I had a wonderful stay over Thanksgiving. The views were wonderful, and the back porch was great for morning coffee and a book. Our Mastiff loved the ramp, which made for easy access. The cabin is easy to get to, yet removed, quiet, peaceful, and tranquil. An A+ destination.

My husband and I were looking for the "perfect place" for our 25th wedding anniversary. This beautiful mountain cabin went far beyond our expectations. It sits down a long paved driveway where it is so quiet and serene. We loved being secluded. (It was so nice to be away from the hustle/bustle of the city.) The wrap-around screen porch with it's comfy rocking chairs became our "perch" as we daily soaked in the breath-taking view of the mountains. Our dog loved the porch as well...she had so much room to "scout out" the view. Inside...well, we felt like we were living in Southern Living magazine...all the rooms are so beautifully decorated, all 1700 sq. feet! There's a washer/dryer if needed...king size bed/jacuzzi. It is a wonderfully romantic place to spend an anniversary...more than spacious enough to bring the whole gang (3 bedrooms). The kitchen is huge...so much space to prepare that "big mountain breakfast!" The cabin is spotless and there is NO trace of "doggie odor/stains" anywhere (they do accept dogs). Restaurants/fishing pond/waterfall..all close by. We felt like we were so pampered with all the amenities. It's a grand place to make memories...we can't wait to come back.

We had such a lovely vacation at your luxurious mountain cabin. The location was perfect for visiting our boys at APP STATE. They didn't want to leave to go back to their housing and actually stayed with us for 4 days - hiking the woods and feeding the deer. We made a fire each night and watched the stars come out - just like when they were little boys. We would like to come back as soon as we can. You provide a wonderful retreat. Thank you, The Allbreck's

Dear Debra Jo, We cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful week we had in your beautiful Fawn Forest Cabin. First, we had no trouble unloading like we usually do at other cabins. The flat driveway was heaven sent! But we were even more surprised when we went in and saw how big, how clean, how wonderfully decorated, and how new and MODERN everything was! I loved having the dishwasher. In fact we had a dinner for 8 one night and everybody who came says they want to stay in your cabin next time they come! But of course the best thing was the view and the animals. We saw deer, racoons, rabbits, fox, and lots of birds. We sat on the front porch every morning and every evening. One night we saw the clouds roll in at sunset and the whole sky was purple! And we loved the menues you had in your book. We went to Brushy Mountain Barbque and ate too much! We can't wait to come back. Thank you again!

I so enjoyed the letter that you wrote to me personally about your trip and thank you for sharing your experience so others might choose our Fawn Forest Cabin! Your trip in Oct will be magnificent with the glorious colors of the fall leaves. Looking forward to having you back then! Debra Jo
