Camden farmhouse description

We have a saying here in Maine - 'If you are lucky enough to live in Maine, then you are lucky enough!' Maine's midcoast brings that saying to mind again and again with its rolling hills, picturesque rocky shores, and quaint harbor towns and we love to share that with our visitors.

Our old New England farmhouse, built in the 1890's, provides its visitors with the perfect location to experience all that the Midcoast has to offer. Stroll the shared back gardens at the farmhouse or relax with a cup of tea and a good book while gazing over beautiful Penobscot Bay. Take a walk one half mile to Lincolnville Beach where you'll find 4 restaurants, a variety of shops, the Islesboro Ferry terminal, and the only stretch of beach found along US Highway 1 in Maine. Hop in your car and drive 5 miles south into Camden, believed by many to be one of the prettiest of Maine's many harbor towns, or drive 12 miles north to Belfast to visit many of the shops, art galleries, and restaurants located in these beautiful New England towns. We are located only 3 miles from the entrance to Camden Hills State Park where you can drive to the top of Mt. Battie or put on your hiking boots for an invigorating walk through the hills overlooking the bay. The possibilities are endless. The Midcoast is home to the award-winning North Atlantic Blues Festival held in Rockland in mid-July, and the world famous Maine Lobster Festival held at the beginning of August. And if you would like to visit the Midcoast in the winter, then you can't miss the National Toboggan race at the Camden Snow Bowl ski resort held every February. Experience many of Maine's fairs, festivals, and other fun activities, each only a short car ride away.

The farmhouse rental unit has two second story bedrooms, a cozy livingroom, dine-in kitchen, full bathroom, and small library. We hope to be your home away from home while you explore Vacationland. Contact us if you would like more information or would like to see more interior pictures.

We look forward to hearing from you to plan your summer visit or just for a weekend getaway.

Can't say enough about how great the place and the hosts were. Place was very clean and our family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) had plenty of room. Kitchen was very functional and surrounding grounds were beautiful. Maybe it was the cool Maine weather in July or the extremely comfortable bed but haven't slept that great on vacation in years. Quaint and functional inside the place was tastefully decorated-it was all we thought it would be and then some. Got some great tips from the hosts on what to do to explore the various treasures of the mid coast of Maine outside of the tourist traps. Hosts were an invaluable resource to ask where to eat or what is off the beaten path to explore. Location is centrally located so we were able to go north to Acadia and also explore lighthouses on the mid-coast. Great for day trips the location was great to explore lots of diverse areas from Bald Rock Mountain, Rockport, Camden, Rockland, Lincolnville, Bar Harbor, Belfast and many other amazing places. Make sure to hit Millers Seafood and Capt Jacks Lobster Tour for a great New England experience. We were sad to leave but felt like we had the quintessential Maine vacation because of the central location, physical amenities, and wonderful hosts. You know its a great trip when your teenage children ask when they can go back an hour after leaving. When we return we have found our home away from home and have already forwarded the listing to friends and family. If you are looking for a place that you can use as a base, relax after a day of exploring or enjoy while on vacation this is the spot for you.

I’m so glad we returned to our vacation home-away-from-home in the summer this time! As much as we enjoyed our Christmas visit, we also enjoyed our summer fun! Instead of walking on frozen Lake Megunticook, we swam in the warm clear waters and splashed the day away. Instead of winter hikes to ice covered mountains, we went to Lincolnville Beach to catch some rays! Summer also affords a chance to sail on a beautiful schooner, or hitch a ride with Captain Jack to catch some lobsters (he’ll even let you take some home for dinner for about $5 each.) The warm weather also meant great views from Mt Battie simply by driving up the auto road. The farmhouse provides a great “base camp” for limitless day-trip adventures to National and State Parks, beaches, lighthouses, forts, museums, shops, port towns, restaurants, etc, etc, etc. And of course the sun shines for many many hours, so there’s plenty of daylight for seeing it all! You can have a bonfire in the gardens or relax and watch a movie. That’s the great thing about staying at the farmhouse, you can do whatever you want because it’s centrally located to so many superb destinations or just taking a stroll and relaxing at “home.” Oh, and don’t forget Ducktrap Sea Kayaks just up the road—cheapest outfitter I’ve ever met with great quality gear. Have fun!

We loved our Christmas vacation to the Maine Farmhouse! The home is lovely with views of the ocean being even better with no foliage. The atmosphere was wonderfully festive—Steve had brought in a real Maine Christmas tree and had the house aglow with Christmas lights. My daughter was delighted that Santa found us so far away from our home in North Carolina! We were delighted with the new remote control fireplace to keep away the winter chill at a moment’s notice! Despite the cold winter weather—actually, because of the cold winter weather—we enjoyed many great hikes to amazing places. Your hosts can give you directions to some great trails. Take a brisk walk along the ocean, or hike through post-glacial forests to frozen Lake Megunticook, climb up to the Maiden Cliffs, find all lighthouses with no other tourists around, and revel in many other normally “busy” destinations all to yourself. Although, if you crave company, there are still enough places open to keep you busy as well. We found winter to be a fabulous time to visit coastal Maine. A slower pace, a chance to watch movies and read during the long nights. We highly recommend a Maine Christmas at the Farmhouse!

Just returned from a 10 day stay at this quaint, Maine escape! The location is perfect for sightseeing along the Mid Coast region with Camden a few minute drive and an easy walk to Lincolnville Beach! The sun rise over the bay (very early 4:55 a.m.) and sunset over the mountains or lake were awesome! It was 4 of us including my mom, sister and niece. We had plenty of space and enjoyed cooking fresh caught seafood in our well equipped kitchen. The hosts were quite helpful at suggesting day trips and restaurants! They made us feel very at home! For dining we recommend Mariners on the water in Camden for wonderful reasonably priced breakfast or lunch. Grafams on the harbor for dinner and the Beach Store pizza by the slice or breakfast sandwiches right on Lincolnville Beach is good AND convenient! Youngs Lobster Pound noth in Belfast was also a great Maine experience! Be certain to check out BOTH high and low tides @ Lincolnville Beach and Camden Harbor....it's quite a difference! Lincolnville beach is perfect for kids and I took my niece there every day we weren't on a day trip! Pemequid light house about 50 minutes south is our favorite and the Cellardoor winery only 4 miles away is another very relaxing experience! This is our 5 th year returning and each year we are more sad to have to leave! The owners make it feel like home and it's always anexperience with bright blue skies and a sunny living area, to cozy and warm when the fog and rain move in! We can't wait to return in the fall!

My husband and I stayed in the property for 4 nights. The property is quite old but has a modern bathroom and highly efficient heating system, comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen and good washer/dryer. Property is close to Lincolnville and just 5 miles from Camden where there are some lovely shops and cafes. The owners were very welcoming and the place was stacked with videos and games to keep us entertained when the weather was cold and dark outside. Only thing to note is that the stairs are steep and narrow so be warned if you might have difficulties with this.

We just returned from a great stay and the farmhouse! It was ideal for a family of 4 to have space to spread out. The kitchen was very spacious with an eat-in table and the washer/dryer was a plus. The TV rec'd lots of channels and the wireless internet worked great. This was an ideal spot to be just outside of Camden (10 mins). Lots of books, maps, and brochures were inside waiting for us. We had lousy weather but Gretchen and Steve were super hosts! They even mailed us information before we came up. Their backyard is as pictured and lovely. The house is very close to the road so some traffic noise could be heard at night but they have double-paned windows to help reduce the sound. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. Thanks Gretchen and Steve! Mike, Amy, Natalie and Jamie from Atlanta

We rented the house for our organization so we could all attend a conference held nearby. It worked out great. We spent less on our entire stay than we would have on one night at the conference center's hotel. And, we didn't have to be in stuffy hotel rooms to boot! The place way homey and comfortable with all the amenities we were looking for. It was in the middle of winter but we were nice, warm and comfortable. Great location making a lot of things accessible to us - and the new coffee shop/mini store/deli across the street made it even more convenient. The owners were very nice and accommodating. Will definitely give them a call again for future trips to mid-coast Maine. Thank you Gretchen & Steve!

My husband and I stayed here with our two kids for a week in July. We had wanted a place where we could do some of our own cooking, have plenty of room for us to spread out, and a good location for day trips. Little did we know what a gem we found! The house was everything we had hoped for and more. Gretchen and Steve were amazing hosts and helpful in every way possible - even waving us down on the road at 11pm! The house was stocked with everything we could ever need and having the washer and dryer was a lifesaver. We truly considered this our "home away from home" and would go back in a heartbeat!

We recently attended a friend's wedding and stayed at the farmhouse. It was just lovely- from when we first walked in and the table was set beautifully and had a gorgeous bouquet of flowers on it to wandering around the back gardens and paths that were created for strolling. The location was perfect and we got to explore the areas both north and south. The home is clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Our hosts were nice enough to set us up with wood in the firepit and our last night there we had a great bonfire. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back again.
