Enchanting Retreat

Guest: Nadia (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 08/06/11 Review Submitted: 09/16/11

This house is very spacious and has many surprising spaces and nooks to relax. Art and a substantial library, well preserved original floors and a fantastic kitchen, ensured a good time for our family of 5 ( three teenage and college age kids) without feeling crowded. We mostly enjoyed the amazing grounds around the house. We loved the beautifully landscaped fountain, walking around the ponds, in the woods and mostly sitting under the huge gorgeous tree to contemplate life while free roaming chickens and ducks came clucking around us. We used fresh eggs and vegetables form the garden to cook meals. The owners are very helpful and attentive to every detail. A true Marie-Antoinette domain in a quiet town not far from the beach, restaurants and shopping. We loved every moment!

Perfect setting for a relaxing vacation

My family and I stayed at this beautiful house over the New Year holiday. We spent the majority of our time on the property itself, building snowmen, having snowball fights, skating on the frozen ponds. At the end of our day, we would walk into the house, and warm up next to the wood burning stoves. It was a perfect getaway. The house itself was a quaint house that definitely had the feel of a 100 year+ house. We loved it. The house had plenty of space for this family of 6, and lots of charm. The owners were very helpful, and readily available for any questions. They truly make you feel as though it is your home. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, and would love to experience the house in the summer.

Charming house

Guest: Dee (Guthrie, OK. USA)
Date of Stay: 12/23/10 Review Submitted: 01/25/11

Priceless and unforgettable memories were made at this charming, homey and comfortable historic home where my family of eight spent five days at Christmastime. The house was spacious and well appointed with the kitchen being equipped with everything needed to prepare an old fashioned Christmas dinner. Everyone enjoyed pitching in helping to build fires in the many fireplaces, especially the grandchildren who also loved feeding the chickens, ducks, and guineas. We were just a short distance from town and the train station where we took a train to New York one afternoon. The owners were very warm and hospitable. Their home provided a most memorable Chistmas for us all. I highly recommend this property for a quaint, relaxing setting where nearby attractions abound.

Loved it

Guest: Kate (Brooklyn, NY)

This house is a three-year-old's definition of heaven--lots of space (outdoors and in), animals to ogle, grounds to explore, toys to play with. We stayed here for Thanksgiving week and very comfortably hosted 14 nearby family members for a fabulous holiday dinner. It was a very quick drive to Hammonasset beach and convenient to towns (and even a little outlet shopping). The house is very comfortable and well appointed, and I loved having the separate studio to retreat to for a little quiet yoga time while the kids were napping. If you're considering it, I say, go for it!

Enchanting property.

Guest: Mary (Moweaqua, Illinois)

The location of this property is ideal. The home provided a perfect starting point for a plethora of day trips we did, and the perfect place to come back to for recouping and relaxing! The kitchen was a gourmet's dream; the grounds and gardens were very impressive and the interior layout provided us with ample space. We fully appreciated the owners generosity - they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and fully enjoy our stay. Personal favorites: Morning coffee overlooking the gardens and fountain, enjoying a campfire after a day at the beach, buying lobster and crab from the local gas station, and having dinner at The Place in Guilford.

Great House!

Guest: Renee (Loudonville, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/23/10

We really enjoyed our stay here in July 2010. The house had even more room than we anticipated and it was extremely charming. The kids loved playing outside and were very excited to see the chickens, ducks and guinea hens! Everything was just a short drive away so it was nice to be in the country but close enough to go to a beach or into town. The owners went out of their way to provide local info and a welcome basket. We would definitely come back. Nordgren and Allen Family

This place is wonderful, amazing grounds and views from the house with a charmingly beautiful and historic country style home. We spent a two weeks there last summer and enjoyed every moment. 20 minutes to the nearby beach-- as well as other quaint towns along the water front. This house is fully equipt and great for a relaxing holiday.
