Puako house description
“Hale Ohana” Family House
Welcome to paradise at this contemporary Puako oceanfront home, situated to feature the stunning Pacific view and designed to invite the refreshing tropical breeze. Your friends and family can enjoy any of the three seaside bedrooms or the garden bedroom recently added, each featuring sliding glass doors opening to the outside. While you savor the sunset, watch the kids splashing in the pool. Prepare a meal of fresh local fish and island grown produce in the fully equipped kitchen or on the gas barbeque grill. Or have one of our talented local chefs come to you! For six years, guests have been delighting in this bit of paradise… where the relaxing rhythm of island life meets the modern conveniences that you have come to expect.
This 2200 square foot home was built just 10 years ago with an additional bedroom and bathroom added in fall of 2012, giving it even more room. The home was designed in old Hawaii plantation style with a roomy 1100 square feet of lanai, screens and sliders that open full length plus louvered windows to encourage the tropical trade winds to maintain the home at a comfortable temperature without the use of air conditioning. A seawall on the ocean side of the home protects the landscape from salt-water damage so the lush tropical flora flourishes. The dipping pool outside the north bedroom wing is the perfect spot to refresh after a day of golf or tennis at one of the nearby resorts. Between two tall coconut palms, sway in the cozy hammock while listening to the melody of the rolling waves. The covered lanai features built-in cushioned seating for two, teak lounge chairs and dining table, plus a serving area with sink.
Stepping through the front door, the great-room’s ocean view will stop you in your tracks as you “ooh and ahh” over the colorful Pacific view. This room is a kitchen/living room combination designed so you can enjoy your guests or family while preparing a meal or a tall cool beverage. The modern kitchen has ample counter and cupboard space as well as top-of-the-line large and small appliances. Thoughtfully provided serving dishes and utensils are at your fingertips. Adjacent to the kitchen is the seating area featuring a plush down sofa and love seat, built in bookcases, flat screen TV, stereo with surround sound and a DVD Player. Wireless high speed Internet service is available throughout the home.
The spacious master bedroom with private bath is located on the south side of the home. Some of the convenient features are: built in closets, drawers and shelves, a bamboo desk, Hawaiian quilt on the king size bed, delightful local art, sliding glass door to the lanai, telephone and television. The adjoining master bath has double sinks, tiled walk-in shower, and a separate door leading outside.
Additional two bedrooms are located at the north end of the home. Accessible from a long hallway, both bedrooms are oceanfront with sliding glass doors opening onto the patio and pool area. Bedroom One features a queen-bed and a twin-sized bed, a comfy chair for reading or relaxing, telephone, and a stereo/DVD player. Bedroom Two has a queen-bed, desk, television, telephone and a teak lounge chair just outside on the porch. These bedrooms share one and half additional baths conveniently located just down the hall. The recently added fourth bedroom has a stunning garden view and private full bathroom.

Beautiful & peaceful
Beautiful & peaceful
Our new favorite place to stay on the Big Island! So beautiful, tasteful & peaceful. We enjoyed the stunning Oceanside location and the soft ocean breezes. Coffee every morning on the lanai was a delight. The tidal pools just on the otherside of the sea wall was very entertaining. The well stocked kitchen made it easy to prepare family meals. We had plenty of room for our multi-generational family. We enjoyed being close to so many public shore access points and beaches as well. Truly a gem.

We really enjoyed our time at Hale Ohana. The house is beautiful, well kept and very clean. The floor plan is very open. There were seven of us and two babies and it still felt spacious. The view is spectacular. The sunsets are amazing. We would definitely recommend this house for a family. It was a wonderful vacation and we will be returning in the future for sure!

Gorgeous home, fantastic location
The home exceeded my high expectations. The house was clean, beautiful, and well-stocked (and we like to cook!). The folks from 2Papayas were helpful and professional. I would return to Hale Ohana in a heartbeat.

Our traveling group was a party of 8 including a grandma, kids and grandkids. We very much enjoyed our week of near seclusion from the hustle of the rest of the world. We were very content to enjoy this beautiful home and its restful setting. Mary and Robbie were there when we needed them and quick to offer solutions and suggestions. We read, slept, enjoyed the pool, the hammock, the lanai, and the beautiful sunsets. Just over the seawall an aquarium was waiting. A positive experience that we hope to repeat!

Hale Ohana Paradise!
Hale Ohana Paradise!
Our two families, consisting of 4 adults and 4 teenagers, recently spent 10 amazing days at the Hale Ohana in Puako and cannot say enough about our wonderful experience there. Firstly, Mary & Robbie were incredible to deal with in getting our vacation off the ground and onto the Big Island! They are helpful, knowledgeable and accessible - happily and quickly answering even the most mundane of questions! They continued to be amazing once we arrived, providing us with extra beach towels, arranging maid service, and making life so much easier on our final day. Thank-you so much Ladies! Upon arrriving in Puako, Holly graciously showed us around this incredible home and made us feel so welcome - the fresh fruit and cookies were most appreciated! The home itself is perfect! Perfectly located, perfectly laid out, perfectly stocked - kitchen has all the necessary cooking and BBQ items, spices and dry goods, home has all the necessities with comfortable beds (though only one is a king), comfortable indoor & outdoor funiture, games, books, plenty of towels, beach & shopping bags - garage has boogie boards, cooler, sand toys, beach chairs & bicycles - all of which were happily used during our vacation. Coffee on the lanai enjoying whale sightings every morning, lovely bird watching all around the house, tidal pool walks in the early afternoon counting green sea turtles, relaxing in the hammock and lounge chairs to the sound of the ocean right out front, cooling off in the pool, nightly glorious sunsets during dinner - this home offers everything! We literally saw numerous whales and sea turtles EVERY day, watched fish and birds in the tidal pools and twice enjoyed the antics of spinner dolphins just off the reef in front of the house. Puako is a quiet location with incredible snorkeling (a ten minute walk from Hale Ohana), the historic and thought provoking petroglyphs (a short hike down the beach and inland), grocery shopping nearby and beautiful Hapuna Beach within a ten minute drive. We did some travelling around the Island and found Puako a great point from which to begin our sightseeing adventures. Mostly, however, we enjoyed the home and all Puako has to offer. This was a most relaxing vacation because the location cannot be matched! We cannot wait to return, but until then have many very happy memories we will cherish forever. Thank-you for sharing this wonderful home with us!

I have stayed in Puako now for 6 years in a row; both in the summer and winter, 4 times at Wailea Bay and twice on Puako Beach Dr.. All houses have been beachfront; some a bit larger and some 1 room smaller. This house has by far the best ocean view; 180 degrees from the porch; and from each of the 3 bedrooms, which is unusual and fantastic. With foliage and flowers on the sides of the property; you feel very secluded. The property is far enough away from the public beach access that you see very few people; there is ample sandy beach in front for lounging, plus a large shade tree that is perfect for when you've had enough of the sun. My mother came with us and is 85; and just like most properties on this part of Puako, access to the water can be tricky walking thru the lava. But I think older kids and teenagers would really love this area, with the protected pools for exploring and snorkling. Having Jack in the ohana on site was nice and he was very helpful with questions about the house and the area in general. The kitchen has everything; much better equipped than the other 3 houses we have stayed in; and the beach chairs are quality. The house is really a good location; 2/3 rds of the way down Puako Beach Dr. so that it is quiet but not too close to Puniau Public beach. It is also a short walk to Mauna Lani , and the petroglyphs. I was there during the winter, and the surf outside was large on some days, which made for some excellent boogie-boarding, which I still enjoy. But the pools are protected and the kids can still enjoy the water inside without being in danger. Mary and Robbie were helpful and professional as usual. This place has made it to #1 on my list for "Beachfront on Puako Beach Dr."

Beautiful home in Puako
Hale Ohana is not only a beautifully situated and decorated home, it is so very comfortable from the moment you walk in. We have stayed in Puako several times previously but this is by far the best home we have had the pleasure visiting. Truly made our stay.

Beautiful, Peaceful Home
Beautiful, Peaceful Home
My husband, 8-year old son and I stayed at Hale O'Hana for nine days in April. The property manager, Mary, was there to meet us with all the information we needed and a welcome gift of fresh fruit and local coffee. The listing description and photos are completely accurate. The property is very clean and well-maintained. We stay in vacation rentals around the US and Canada, and this was one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. The beds were extremely comfortable, and we went to sleep at night to the sound of the ocean. I love to cook and was delighted to find that the kitchen was equipped with quality knives, every pot and pan I needed, a coffee grinder, plenty of dishes, etc. We enjoyed watching the birds, and seeing the turtles sunning themselves on the rocks outside each morning. Our son enjoyed walking to the nearby tidepools every evening before sunset. The home is close to many great beaches, and we enjoyed coming home to have dinner on the lanai, with the beautiful view and the peaceful environment. I highly recommend this home to people who enjoy a comfortable, tranquil setting. Hope to be back again next year.

The Perfect Vacation Home!
The Perfect Vacation Home!
We LOVED our week at Hale Ohana. It couldn't have been more perfect. The house is beautifully decorated, yet so comfortable and private. The couches, beds, lounge chairs, and the awesome built-in daybed on the lanai were so inviting. I normally hate to cook while on vacation, but dinners at sunset on the lanai (with grilled fish from the fish market 5 min. away) were unforgettable. Every suggestion Robbie made yielded a great find. I hope to be able to return to Puako and Hale Ohana. Mahalo for such a wonderful vacation.
