Plass Cottage is the guest house at Vintage East. It is an early salt box built in the 1790's with modernized systems, kitchen and bathrooms. The Cottage is furnished with antiques, features wide board flooring throughout and has a glass enclosed front porch overlooking beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Atop a distant hill can be seen Olana, Frederic Church's castle, which is now a state park and is a must see for all visitors to the area. There are three sleeping areas which include an upstairs bedroom with a queen size bed & private full bath, downstairs bedroom with a full size bed & private full bath and a sleeping alcove on the porch which can be made private with a full size bed. There is an elegantly furnished dining & living area, a full kitchen and a utility room complete with a washer/dryer and stocked with all the supplies you may need. There is a lovely area for outside dining in the court with stone walls, terrace and a water garden. With the Cottage windows open, the water garden fills the cottage with the relaxing sound of falling water. There is also a beautiful herb and flower garden as well as a large in-season vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to pick vegetables for cooking in the Cottage. Plass Cottage also features a glass door wood burning stove which adds glow to the patina of an old dwelling.
Vintage East is a historic compound located in the beautiful Hudson River Valley just three miles south of Hudson, New York. Hudson offers fine dining, shopping, antiques, galleries and theater. Hudson also has excellent examples of 18th and 19th century architecture. Vintage East is 4 miles from the Amtrak station, 6 miles from the NY State Thruway and 9 miles from the Taconic Parkway. Vintage East is also only a 3 mile drive to nearby Olana State Park. Within an hour drive, guests can visit Tanglewood, Woodstock, Hyde Park, Rhinebeck and Albany. Add a few more minutes and you can reach resort areas such as Saratoga or even West Point. You can day trip to New York City by Amtrak and view one of the most spectacular train rides in the nation - riding the banks of the Hudson River all the way to Manhattan. Or, stay closer to home by visiting the nearby Museum of Firefighting, going hiking at Olana and the site of the Catskill Mountain House, going trout fishing in the many nearby creeks lakes and ponds, kayaking the Hudson River at RamsHorn or bird watching at many of the surrounding bird sanctuaries.
Plass Cottage is a place to which guests can return as a respite from the demands of the modern world. The Cottage is adjacent to the manor house and faces a lightly traveled country road. This lodging offers an atmosphere of old charm and down-to-earth comfort. It is surrounded by old trees, lending to the comfortable country charm that has existed here for over 200 years.

The property features beautiful long vistas of the Taconic, Green and Berkshire Mountains and is minutes to Olana State Park, historic City of Hudson and the Amtrak Station. The Hudson Valley is steeped in history and antiquity is everywhere - from antique architecture to antique furniture & paintings. There is much to do and see in the area including historic houses, theatre, art, museums, dining, outdoor sporting in the nearby mountains, rivers and streams. With a strong since of rural life, you can pick your own fruits and vegetables right off the local farms.
The Unique Benefits at this Country Cottage Retreat
You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the beautiful view of distance mountains including Frederick Church's world renowned castle, now a State Park, called Olana on a distant mountain. You can choose to go swimming at several local lakes, go fly fishing in the many streams, Kayak on the Hudson River which is minutes away, go antiquing, pick your own fruits vegetables at the local farmers, visit the many historic homes in the area, go bird watching in the many nature preserves or see professionally produced theatre, etc.
Little known area for bird watching and kayaking up the Rams Horn Creek from the Hudson River. This area is accessible by Kayak or by foot trails.
