Vintage East offers a choice of 4 self-serve accommodations within the historic compound. Located near Hudson, NY and within view of Olana, home of famed Hudson River School artist Frederic Church, Vintage East is a step back into another era and the time of the Hudson River School painters where a slower pace meets the aesthetic beauty of history and nature - a place to restore the spirit. The four Vintage East accommodations are Plass Cottage, The Portico Suite, The Bungalow and The Hayloft. Detailed descriptions follow:
PLASS COTTAGE - This private entrance accommodation is an early salt box built in the 1790's with modernized systems, kitchen and bathrooms. The Cottage is furnished with antiques, features wide board flooring throughout and has a glass enclosed front porch overlooking beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Atop a distant hill can be seen Olana, Frederic Church's castle, which is now a state park and is a must see for all visitors to the area. There are three sleeping areas which include an upstairs bedroom with a queen size bed & private full bath, downstairs bedroom with a full size bed & private full bath and a sleeping alcove on the porch which can be made private with a full size bed. There is an elegantly furnished dining & living area, a full kitchen and a utility room complete with a washer/dryer and stocked with all the supplies you may need. There is a lovely area for outside dining in the court with stone walls, terrace and a water garden. With the Cottage windows open, the water garden fills the cottage with the relaxing sound of falling water. There is also a beautiful herb and flower garden as well as a large in-season vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to pick vegetables for cooking in the Cottage. Plass Cottage also features a glass door wood burning stove which adds glow to the patina of an old dwelling.
THE PORTICO SUITE - Classic elegance are words that accurately describe the experience of staying in The Portico Suite. The private entrance master bedroom is bathed in light from all sides. The Suite features magnificent seven foot windows with three French Doors that open up onto a marble floored Portico which steps down to a lush green yard surrounded by mature evergreen trees. The Suite also features exquisite antiques, antique wide board flooring and a ceiling that rises to a height of 12 feet. From the king size bed one can view a panorama of the outdoor landscape. It is very common to see deer, turkey, fox and rabbit passing through this natural sanctuary and bird watching doesn't get any better. Indulge yourself in a one-of-a-kind marble bath with a spa shower large enough for two. The Suite is equipped with a refrigerator, coffee maker, cable TV and wireless Internet. You can relax on the portico with music which comes from the ceilings and from inside the master bedroom. This elegant interior is a poetic and romantic experience in simplicity.
THE BUNGALOW - Cozy and Quaint are the best words to describe The Bungalow. It is completely private with many windows that overlook bucolic pastoral views. The Bungalow has a private entrance and features antique wide board flooring throughout, antique furniture and antique rugs. The surrounding walls have table height wainscoting all around which adds old world charm. The Bungalow is made extremely comfortable by two vintage twin beds, two comfortable lounge chairs and a table with two chairs. The Bungalow is equipped with a refrigerator, coffee maker, cable TV, wireless Internet and a bath that features an antique claw foot tub. This accommodation is perfect for one person or two. The Bungalow is a rustic retreat you'll want to return to often.
THE HAYLOFT SUITE- Rustic, agrarian Charm is what The Hayloft is all about. From the moment you climb the stairs to the outdoor balcony/private entrance, you'll know you are in a very different kind of place. Surrounded by forest, meadows, vegetable gardens and livestock pins, you'll immediately notice the quiet solitude early Americans must have experienced a century ago. The Hayloft is equipped with a full kitchen, cable TV and wireless Internet. Sit on the balcony and be entertained by Harley - the community pig who lives in a hut nearby. Open the sliding glass door & barn door to fill The Hayloft with light and/or fresh air or watch the guinea hens in the barnyard. Be astonished by the beautiful weathered barn siding, inside and out, and old board flooring which once housed the hay that fed the livestock.
Vintage East is located just 3 miles south of Hudson, New York. Hudson offers fine dining, shopping, antiques, galleries and theater. Hudson also has excellent examples of 18th and 19th century architecture. Vintage East is 4 miles from the Amtrak station, 6 miles from the NY State Thruway and 9 miles from the Taconic Parkway. Vintage East is also only a 3 mile drive to nearby Olana State Park. Within an hour drive, guests can visit Tanglewood, Woodstock, Hyde Park, Rhinebeck and Albany. Add a few more minutes and you can reach resort areas such as Saratoga or even West Point. You can day trip to New York City by Amtrak and view one of the most spectacular train rides in the nation - riding the banks of the Hudson River all the way to Manhattan. Or, stay closer to home by visiting the nearby Museum of Firefighting, go hiking at Olana and the site of the Catskill Mountain House, go trout fishing in the many nearby creeks lakes and ponds, kayak the Hudson River at RamsHorn or bird watch at many of the surrounding bird sanctuaries.

There is much to do and see in the area including historic houses, theatre, art, museums, dining, outdoor sporting in the nearby mountains, rivers and streams. You can pick your own fruits and vegetables right off the local farms.

Frank was born and raised on a farm in Georgia. After college, Frank began a career as an architectural designer - then became interested in advertising and soon became an art director/designer which lead him to a career on Madison Avenue in NYC. After accomplishing his goal as an award winning advertising art director/creative director, Frank chose to return to the country - this time in the New York's Hudson Valley. There, he combined his interest in historic preservation with architectural design and art direction skills he obtained over the years to create Vintage East.

I rented this entire compound for a writers' retreat for the weekend and we all had a really amazing time. The property was beautiful and serene, the owners were helpful and great, the amenities were exactly as promised in the description. Very clean. Very well maintained. Highly recommended and would definitely rent again.

We stayed at The Bungalow October 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Bungalow has a 1950's vibe, and is quite comfortable. We slept well in our twin beds, and loved waking up to a beautiful view of the property. Would highly recommend staying here to people who appreciate a quiet, peaceful, somewhat retro experience.
