My husband and I had an amazing time. Went fishing and snorkeling all week long! Very convenient fish cleaning stand by the water. House was impeccable! Owners were great with all accommodations requested. My husband and I have never had a problem in the 3 years we've stayed here and have referred many friends and will continue to come down throughout the years to come!! GREAT PLACE AND VACATION all around!!!

Looooooove this place
Looooooove this place
I have stayed at this property for the last 4 years, sometimes multiple times a year, and I have to say that I Love this place. Location is great. Try driving down to Key West, or even Marathon, on a holiday weekend...you will be in traffic for hours. The Dock is 60ft so you have PLENTY of space for your boat. The owner does have a boat, but it is kept out of the water on dry land. It really doesn't bother us at all since I would expect the owner, who invested all his money, to be able to enjoy his own property from time to time. The canal is deep enough for any boat you can take. I have seen some 33 foot Contenders navigating the canal without any problems. We have even caught Tarpons from the dock. Access to the fishing grounds are literally minutes away. You can chase Bonefish right out of the channel since there is a HUGE grass flat on the bay side immediately coming out of the canal. You will usually see the fly fisherman in the early morning chasing down either tarpons or bonefish. I have personally caught several sea trouts on these flats. The grass flats also have huge schools of pinfish for the hardcore fisherman who loves chasing grouper and mutton snappers. The owner has even giving us some of his best GPS numbers, and we have spent hours cleaning yellowtail snappers caught in these spots (don't expect these numbers on your first visit...LOL). The neighborhood is extremely quiet if you just want a relaxing vacation taking in the sun. For the people in your party who only want to snorkel, you have The Hens and Chickens and Crocker reef. If you want to dive, you have The Eagle which is a wreck only minutes from this house. This place has everything I could ever need, and compared to some other VRBO I've stayed at in Florida this place is spotless.

Our stay started out fine. The house was clean, in a good location however, there are multiple reasons to stay elsewhere. Reason #1: There was intermittent hot water during our entire 7 day stay. I had ONE hot shower during the entire week. Reason #2: The owner's boat is on the lift in the backyard making it somewhat difficult to load/unload your own boat docked there (if you bring one). Reason #3: Our family came for dinner one night and due to the dangerous weather (TS Debby) we were experiencing that night chose to stay for safety. We were told we would be fined for this stay for our family due to it not being in the contract. This is completely unacceptable due to it was a safety issue for our family. There is evidently someone watching the house for them so if you plan to have visitors, check with the owners first as they do not apparently allow them. Reason #4: We attempted to contact the owner during our stay and calls were unanswered and not returned. Reason #5: While the contract for the house allows a free entry to Founder's Park (where we were told to launch our boat), the boat ramp fee is $15 to put in, $15 to take out. The village where the home exists does have a boat ramp free of charge however it requires a proxy card which we did not receive, and it was recommended not to use use this ramp.

Owner response: Our home is located in the Village of Islamorada as such we have a vacation rental license which permits us to rent our 3 bedroom 2 bath home to a maximum of 6 guests. The guest received a rental agreement which they completed indicating total number of people staying at the house would be 2 adults & 2 children. The rental agreement provides pertinent information regarding the Vacation Rental Ordinances requirements for tenants to review before signing. We received calls from neighbors indicating that there were at least 12 people and 6 cars on the property that were there for more than a couple of nights. By having more than the approved number of guests in the house they were in violation of the Vacation Rental ordinance. We have been doing vacation rentals for over 15 years with no problems. Guest is disgruntled because we contacted upon receipt of the complaint and informed that if contacted by Village their contact information would be provided. Our home has a solar water heater and taking into account a group of 12 people bathing, you can certainly understand the lack of hot water. Further, we have an on demand water heater and explained how to turn on in the event of multiple cloudy days. The rental of our home provides tenants access to the park, however, as all owners and guests, services/amenities that have a cost must be paid by us all. At no time did we indicate the ramp was complimentary as even we have to pay to use it. Our boat sits on the dock leaving the entire 60 ft of dockage for our tenant boats. Access is available all around the boat and this has never been an issue with any of our other tenants. Had they indicated any concerns, we would have made arrangements to move the boat. The only call received from tenant was on the evening of his arrival date where he complained regarding the ramp fees. No further contacts were received from them via phone, email or text. The rental agreement also has contact details for our local person who is available when we are not. Unfortunately, we sometimes run into people like this that take advantage of individual home owners. Had they rented at a hotel they would not have been able to have 12 people stay in their rooms. As homeowners, we have been extremely lucky that in the 15 plus years that we've been doing vacation rentals, we've had only a couple of these types of guests. Where do we go to alert other VRBO home owners about them?
