Our family was welcomed by a beautiful smiling Rebecca. Our suite was spacious and accommodating! Wake up to sounds of the ocean right out your door! Outstanding snorkeling right on the beach! Tony junior too is a whirl wind of information and hospitality! Ask about the tours with Tony as well with Cora who is next door at the bar! Fantastic margaritas are to be had just watch the swings when sitting at the bar! I hope to return back in the near future!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have never been to mexico before, and so chose to stay at Villa Derosa for the duration of our 2 week holiday. And were glad we did!!! It was reasonably priced and right on the beach. The ocean view was a breathtaking sight to enjoy our morning coffee over each day! ! The first day we arrived it was early in the day and they were gracious enough to let us put our things in our room early, while the maids cleaned our villa. This allowed us time to venture off to stock up on our groceries from a nearby store. We found the staff very friendly, and full of helpful tips to make our day trip ventures, even more enjoyable. From the time we arrived we were welcomed and felt at home. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would like to make a suggestion for those with small children. The belcony on our villa lovely but the rail is not safe for those with small kids. Reserve on a lower level if your kids are vey little. We had a number of other family members who took holidays and stayed here at the same time and the facility provided us with a large area around the pool to hang out while the kids played in the water. If I had one small suggestion it would be that the pool could have been emptied and refilled more often as we had kids using the pool several times a day over our stay and I didn't see them empty it once. On a good note..... it was a refreshing place for our kids to play when the ocean was too rough to swim. And for that we were gratful! Just as a side note we considered buying life vests for our kids but we found it afforable to simply rent them for the day off the office and we would often take them with us on our day trips to other beaches as well. The Villas are centrally located so we weren't far from Tulum, Playa del Carmen, or nearby Cenotayes. On the days when the wind died down. We were able to snorkel, and just float on tubes in the ocean out front of the villas. Thanks so much for everything and we won't soon forget our first trip to Mexico!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Please note: Safty nets are available for installation on the balcony for the safety of small children....Tony DeRosa

This was a lovely place. I'd highly recommend it. It was small, on a lovely beach, with snorkeling and nice swimming. It's close to the hubbub of Akumal and Tulum, but has a more private feel. Their "discover scuba" opportunity let two of our family get a sense of the wonders of scuba. Villas DeRosa was one of the early resorts on the Riviera Maya; they pioneered cave diving in the area; they have a deep commitment to preserving what is so special about the area. I'll return here at the next opportunity.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My wife and I had a great time at Villa DeRosa and it would not have been possible if it were not for the amazing Villa staff. We loved: - being greeted when we arrived by Tony - having the necessary documents ready for us to sign upon arrival - always having scuba tanks (left and rights) available for us every day we went diving - comfortable rooms with working appliances INCLUDING WiFi - wall safe a plus - drinking water always available; no request made to refill, done automatically. - sponges/dish soap/salt/pepper/first aid kit - super friendly everyone - housekeeping was top notch - Tony was there to see us off. We loved our 2nd story room!!! Some like the walk onto the beach option, we prefer the view option so that was a great choice.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I were looking forward to another opportunity to dive the cenotes while in the Riviera Maya. Before going to our vacation club for a good rest we spent a few days with Tony DeRosa, Jr. & staff at Villas DeRosa and used their on-site dive shop, Aquatech & a highly recommended guide, Daniel Ortega Moran to visit cenotes old and new. The grounds and the accomodations at VDR are constantly being improved and we noticed the changes as soon as we arrived. Tony's favorite saying "Mi casa, su casa" was heard often and in earnest. He was always ready to assist, never in too much of a hurry to stop and chat for a while and the word 'no' didn't appear to be part of his vocabulary. On the diving side, Daniel started out as an unknown with large shoes to fill as the guide we were so happy with several times in the past was no longer available. In just minutes Daniel erased all of our concerns and we knew we were in for a wonderful diving experience. While ready to take us to any of our old favorites, it became clear very quickly that Daniel's suggestions would bring us to additional dive sites that we were unaware of and would love as much or more than the ones we'd already explored. So, Thank you Tony for reminding us why we keep coming back to Villas DeRosa again and again. Thank you Daniel for being such a charming, witty, knowledgeable and excellent companion to spend our diving days with. Warmest regards from Bob & ArleneRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

It's easy to find a "beachfront" resort, but not this close! We chose to stay at Villa de Rosa for our family vacation because of its intimate appeal, providing fully equipped condo units that all face the ocean, which really made us feel like we were truly living on the beach. During the days, the resort tours took us fishing, to the ancient ruins and swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and even hiking through the Cenotes. Their knowledgeable staff provided detailed historical and ecological information, as well as current environmental impacts for all of the sights, making these trips both fun and educational. We loved that we could chose to cook our own meals or order from the resort kitchen, but we could take our meals anywhere we wanted, which was usually on our condo’s private beachfront balcony or on the sand, with the ocean breeze and crashing waves. In the evenings, we enjoyed experiencing the sunset over the jungle from the large rooftop patio and having drinks on swings at the beach bar. Villa de Rosa’s features not only provided a safe, fun and friendly environment for our entire family, with small children and grandparents alike, but it also offered the experience of a more intimate connection with Mexico and the native people of Akumal. We absolutely loved our stay. After staying at a few places big and small from Cancun down to Tulum, Villa de Rosa is now the only choice for us. My husband and I will stay with them in August and take our family back next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After driving in from Cancun (1 1/2 hrs), we were greeted by lovely Mila at the VillasDeRosa office. It seems like she was waiting for us to appear, for she closed up the office and showed us around (the pool, the beach bar, the rooftop terrace, where to order food, etc.), and finally the room. She opened the door and the view took my breath away; there was the blue-green Caribbean not 50 ft. from our patio, with a few palm trees swaying in the soft breeze. We had found paradise! The condo was quite adequate, kitchen, drinking water, breakfast bar, numerous couches, with a body melting shower. On numerous occasions we dined in with Samuel being our own personal chef (at least it seemed that way). Personal service- Exemplary! Whenever we were going out (to find cenotes, Coba, Tulum, etc.) Tony (jr) was always there to fill in any missing information. Thanks Tony! This is a wonderful, laid back, family owned, non-commercial environment. Very few people on the beach. Snorkeling and swimming right out the door. This is the kind of place I could visit again and again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We asked for beach front 2 bedrm unit and got the perfect set-up...the kitchen, dining, living rooms look straight out on the beach over our own shaded patio. Loved the little foot pool for washing off the sand since the sand was up the the edge of our patio. 2 baths clean and lovely with the large blue tiles and plenty of towels. (and they really honored it when we asked them NOT to give us new towels every day.) Staff not just friendly but welcoming and warm and helpful. New light bulb? got it. Broken towel rail (which was my fault by the way). Fixed. Dinner delivered to room when we didn't feel like cooking? Done to perfection from the room-service kitchen downstairs. We loved our week in this laid-back, non-big-resort style vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

VillasDeRosa is one of the original resorts in this area. It is family owned and cared for. There is a dive shop on site that does fantastic dives in the area. They specialise in Cave Diving. The folks there are very warm and welcoming....and the people staying there are enjoyable, and are all ages. The Beach Bar is the center for hanging out and getting to know each other. The food and drinks are very good. Rob and Tommy, who man the Beach Bar are very friendly and accomodating. We took a snorkle cave dive tour with one of them on private property, and the experience was fantastic! The property has mainly condo style rooms, where we could cook food every day if we wished. It was fun to cook breakfast and eat it out on our deck. I very highly recommend this property.....we had an amazing time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Back in the mid 1990's a very good friend of mine told me about an awesome trip he had taken with a diving club out of Dallas; he told me of a wonderful location call Villas DeRosa in Akumal, Mexico. Back in 2007 My family and this friend visited this great get away. We had so much fun and enjoyed ourselves so much, we decided to schedule our 2010 Thanksgiving trip back to this wonderful resort. Villas DeRosa is a scuba divers heaven, but more than that, it is a great place to take a family for a vacation. You usually book the trip with Tony Sr. here in the states, He is very flexible and makes sure to get you the exact type of room you need. Tony Jr. is waiting in MX with the staff of Tony's, Tommy and Rob and the kitchen folks. They have some of the best rooms on the beach. Our Room was on the ground floor and we woke each morning to an amazing sunrise over the eastern Caribbean ocean. About 30 steps and you could get right into the 78 Degree water and spend the day. There is a beach bar that is almost always open with excellent prices. The kitchen is open 8-8 CST and will bring your food to your room, the roof, the beach or the bar; you choose. The food is excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Probably the most important part of all the cool things(Clean rooms, daily room service, bottled water, full kitchen, refrig, separate living and Dining areas, deck, foot wash, etc) this resort has to offer over all the big named resorts, is the family feeling you get talking, eating and playing alongside the staff. Three years ago Tony Jr. taught my wife and son how to body surf. Tony Jr. will help you find the right activity you are looking for, he and other staff have taken us on small non-diving cenote excursions around the Akumal area, recommend specific guides for diving, the Coba and Talum ruins and the many different parks around the area. One of our favorites this year was a day at X-PLOR, it was $100/per USD, but it was worth every dime. You were able to zip-line, drive amphibian atv's and swim in the cenotes in the park; also all food was included and it was great. It is hard to describe all the great times and things we did in the six short days during this trip, I guess the only way to really know is to pick up the phone and make a reservation. Thanks again to the entire staff at Villas DeRosa, we shall return ! For those who are scuba divers there are really 3 types to choose from; ocean open water, cenote cavern and cenotRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family vacation at Villasderosa was fantastic: swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and lounging were part of our daily routine. The condo we stayed in was clean and comfortable with maid service daily, with a/c in the bedrooms (a bit noisy) yet it was easy to sleep. The description of the location was accurate - actually, it is even more beautiful than can be described on a website. The Beach Bar was very relaxed with swings around the bar. Property was clean, the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. Distance to the other towns and the ruins range from very close to an hour away - very doable. We ate at the villa frequently and were very pleased with the cuisine. I would highly recommend to friends and family and anyone looking for a small resort on the beach without all the bells and whistles of a big resort.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

In February 2010, me, my wife and kids (1 and 3 yrs) spent 4 fantastic weeks at Villas DeRosa. Big balcony, great view and a gorgeous beach. My kids loved the trampoline so much I thought we'd have to take it back with us to Montreal. Now we're planning our second trip, back to exactly the same place! Love it.
