For a restorative vacation for both your body and your soul, consider a week in a beautiful riverfront home on the beautiful, unforgettable Tygart River, in the heart of West Virginia.
If outdoor activities are your forte, you will truly love this beautiful and unspoiled area. Hiking and biking trails abound, and the Tygart River at your very door, offers tubing, kayaking and swimming in its clean and fast flowing waters.
You can picnic at the home's gazebo, and beside your very own waterfall, located at the rear of the property. After a day of touring, biking, or hiking you can just relax in the hot tub, and then enjoy your evening meal on the screened porch overlooking the river.
Later, cool evening breezes will waft through the generous, river-facing windows of the master bedroom, while the Tygart's rapids whisper just 200 feet from your bed, soothing you to sleep.
Note: There is no TV reception here, although there is a VCR and selected movies to watch if you choose.
This unparalleled home is located in the Village of Arden, in central West Virginia, just a few miles from the first ridge of the Appalachian Mountain chain. This bit of paradise is just 8 miles from the town of Philippi, which was the scene of the first land battle of the Civil War, and history is everywhere you look. The Blue and Gray museum in Philippi holds many interesting battle artifacts and several of the War's battlefields are within an easy day trip.
Testimony:
"We cannot tell you how peaceful and precious our moments were there. Such perfect solitude and all around nature dancing. The family times were priceless. What a great place to practice harp too! Thanks again for making it possible."

The house was perfect for just relaxing, so peaceful. We were able to lay in bed and listen to the crickets! We explored the area on the bikes in the garage and my husband and girls spent many hours floating down the river on the tubes (only a couple of accidents)! We made use of the BBQ and spent the evenings listening to music and gazing at the wonderful view. We were slightly disappointed that the hot tub had been removed but it did not detract from our wonderful stay. The chickens were fun to watch, thank you for the eggs. We enjoyed an afternoon at Tygart State Park, visited Phillippi (although the Museum only opens at weekends), and took a great train ride from Elkins on the New Tygart Flyer. We left 2 fishing poles in the garage, hopefully someone will make use of them although we had no luck. We had a fantastic holiday and would love to return. Thank you.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We (5 adults and 1 child) stayed here on 7/22/11-7/24/11 and it was a nice place to relax. The house was very clean and had tons of character. The only complanits I have are that there is no where in this house comfortable to sit! The house has lots of chairs and lots of different rooms but no where to get and curl up to relax and that the up stairs in the house was hot!! It was really hot out side and it would have been nice to be able to come inside to a ice cold house. When we cooked up stairs it just made it hotter!! But over all in the late summer or fall this house would be amazing!! The views are beautiful and the river was refreashing and fun!! We floated the river, grilled, and relaxed with great friends. The people I spoke with and meet around this house where every friendly. You guys where very helpful in all my many questions and extremely nice. Thank you for being so nice and inviting.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to rent your West Virginia home. We had a wonderful and relaxing time! It was very different from the condo in Hilton Head or the modern hotel room. It was very relaxing and inviting! From the pictures and books to the table on the porch I think we felt like we were given a peak into your lives. The kids had a wonderful time being kids and the adults had a wonderful time getting away from the hustle of everyday. It was also nice to meet some of your family. We hope to visit again! Thank You!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+.

Along with our dog, we stayed at Cascade for an extended weekend. We loved it. Beautiful home right on the riverfront. We spent our evenings roasting hot dogs over the fire pit and later, laying on the cool grass checking out all the bright, fantastic stars -- a view you can not experience back home in the suburbs. The house is decorated well and very clean. Unfortunately, the interior hot tub would not heat, but there was still plenty to do and experience. Steve did some fishing and Hector, our dog loved jumping and swimming in the river. We will definitely be going back and staying at Cascade House again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: Shaun Weaver McKee, MD, a radiologist with two children grew up as a white water river guide on the Tygart and married her "Med-school sweet heart" John McKee, MD, in Arden in 1989. "When Dad (Steve Weaver) offered the Cascade house to us, I didn't know what to say or do." Shaun decided to purchase the home and turn it into a tranquil vacation getaway available for rental. "The home is incredible!" she said. Her description befits the three bedroom, two and a half bath home along side cascading rapids of the Tygart, hence the name Cascade. Cascade was built by Steve and Barbara Weaver in 1981. The home was designed by the Weavers with massive screened and unscreened decks for entertaining. There is an indoor hot tub to relax in after long hikes along the river or up into the hills. There are windows everywhere including the roof skylight windows that enable unparalleled star gazing even while lying in the master bed. "The only thing that we didn't go for out here was TV," remarked Steve Weaver. Barbara Weaver, the co-architect of Cascade, actually participated in the construction as well. She detailed the design features including its unique windows that she discovered while vacationing in Europe
Why the Owner Chose Arden:
With sister, Stephanie, converting Steve's boyhood home next door to the Cascade home, into a bed and breakfast (open May 2009) and Barbara recently finishing a nearby vaction cottage renovation, Arden's welcome mat is officially out. Shaun summarized her goal, "I want other families to know the joy of being in the country and the peace it brings to them." While two sons, Jack, age 8, and Christian, age 6, play in the wooded backyard of Cascade, husband John warms up in front of the outdoor fire pit. The goals of "joy and peace" are easy to attain at Cascade. No doubt future generations of Henry Weaver will benefit from the land he encountered so many years ago
