Genova is a typical Italian city with very rich history, palaces, churches, galleries and museums and beautiful squares. It is built in amphitheatrical shape against the slopes of the Apennnine mountains. Genova,"la superba"(the beautiful) as her inhabitants like to call her, still has an almost intact mediaeval city center.
It has the biggest port for cruise-ships in the Mediterranean and is famous for its beaches along the "Flower River" and many picturesque villages in the immediate surrounding such as the illustrious Cinque Terre, where the famous wine Schiacchera is made. Also worthwhile is mentioning the famous Portofino, where the rich and the beautiful meet in the elegant and romantic hotel Splendido.
All these places can be reached by boat departing from Genova. Genova is not yet flooded by tourism, but nevertheless offers everything one might need to for a holiday. You also find many boutiques and fine elegant shops, often still for lower prices than in many of the metropolis.
Not to forget to mention after enjoying a nice aperitif ,which is served here with the famous "snacks on-the-house", on one of the many terraces, ideally one could finish the day in one of the trattorias which the fantastic grandmothers-style pasta and mediterranean fish-dishes, all catch of the day. |
