A fantastic choice for large groups, multiple families, family reunions, or corporate retreats, Blue Heron Lodge offers all of the most modern conveniences while in the beautiful surroundings of nature. With more than 4600 square feet of living space there is plenty of room for all.
Built in October 2006 and newly available for rental in 2007, the cabin is situated on the east end of Black Bay on Lake Vermilion, Minnesota., and is surrounded by state forest or undeveloped property. The exterior of the cabin features log siding on the main and second floors. On the lower level it features fieldstone stone work across the entire lake side of the cabin. The lake is just a few steps away from the lower level doors.
This road-accessible site sits on 12.5 acres of land and features 650+ feet of private shoreline for your enjoyment. It includes a private boat dock, allowing you to bring your own boat to the cabin or to rent one from us.
This cabin was designed to be spacious, taking advantage of views from all sides, while having all of the luxuries of a fine home. The interior of this 7 bedroom 4 bath cabin features wood floors throughout, with tile in the entrance way, kitchen, laundry, basement and all bathrooms. The open-plan living room opens into the dining room and kitchen and has a vaulted pine ceiling with great views out all the windows. The cabin has six panel pine doors, maple cabinets and wood trim throughout. It also features in-floor heat in all of the rooms on the first floor and basement, standard ceiling fans with remotes in every room and a wood-burning fireplace in the living room and basement.
Modern conveniences, such as wireless high speed internet access, three computers, satellite TV, DVD, all new furniture and brand new kitchen appliances, are available for your use. The entertainment room features a wet bar, pool table, air hockey, bar style dart board, foosball, and 113” TV projection screen. The living room feature multiple leather couches, loveseats and chairs with room for all. A 50” plasma TV with 7.1 channel surround sound is provided for entertainment.
The kitchen features huge amount of space for the family to cook together with plenty of counter space, 2 ovens, large cook-top, two dishwashers, and all the pots, pans, utensils, and place settings you will need. All the bedrooms are large in size and bed linens and towels are provided.
The outdoor areas are some of the highlights of the house. A massive 1,950 square foot deck overlooks the lake with multiple seating areas. A sitting area features teak couches, love seat, two chairs, end tables, table, and ottoman with all weather cushions. There is also a bar height eating area with granite top and four chairs. There is an 800 sq inch gas outdoor grill with island. On the opposite site of the deck is another seating area with a sectional sofa, rocking chairs, and lounge chairs. There is a 360 sq foot lighted screen porch with teak table and 12 chairs providing a great outdoor location for meals day or night. The outdoor hot tub provides seating for 6 -8 adults and features 82 therapy jets.
Below the deck is another 1,000 square feet of brick paved outdoor space for your enjoyment. There are two seating areas with tables and chairs and a swinging outdoor seat. Immediately in front of this area is the outdoor fire pit complete with log benches and the brick paved path to the lake. Next to the “U” shaped dock that can accommodate 4-5 boats is a sand beach.
Enjoy fishing, boating, skiing and exploring Lake Vermilion. Enjoy bird watching, hiking through the forest, or just observing nature. Then return to this one of a kind retreat.

Why the Owner Chose Cook
I choose to build the Blue Heron Lodge because I wanted to have an environment that was completely surrounded by nature. A place that was quiet, I could go an explore, and was beautiful. I choose to combine this fantastic natural setting with a home that had all the modern amenities that anyone would need. It is a place that allows me to “work from home” one minute and the next minute be on vacation.
This little known area is not on public maps. There is a day use dock here. Then walk to the back of the site and you will find a hiking trail that makes a loop.
Here is a public boat launch and next to it is the landing restaurant which has a great Friday fish fry
