Moonlight Bay Cottage is in the center of Matlacha Village, with the bay on both sides of the road in walking distance to many really good restaurants, art galleries, boat rentals, bait shops and 'The Fishingest Bridge' -a name given by the Guinness book of records because no matter what time of day or night there is always someone fishing on it.
You can also fish from our own dock where there is always great fishing!
There is also a story that Matlacha was made famous by Elvis Presley, the movie 'Follow that Dream' , was based on the book Pioneers Go Home, written from the experiences of the first white people to settle in Matlacha, but we understand that it was actually filmed on the Sanibel Causeway.
Matlacha resembles the old style Key West, rustic and quaint, so many areas like Matlacha are disappearing in the name of progress but Matlacha has been deemed Historical so as to preserve its unique qualities.
Matlacha pronounced MAT-LA-CHAY is an Indian name meaning Water to the waist, apart from the boating channels most times the water does not reach above the waist. Matlacha is a very popular fishing village where you can book a deep sea fishing event or rent a boat yourself.
Matlacha is a very popular area for kayaking, people come from all over Florida to kayak our calm tranquill waters. Matlacha and Pine Island are surrounded by a magnificent mangrove forest this is Floridas rain forest providing sustence for its huge variety of marine life.
30 minutes by boat to Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach, Boca Grande,Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa 1 hour to Venice Beach famous for its prehistoric sharks teeth you can find on the beach, 45 minutes from Ft. Myers International Airport(RSW),30 minutes from Cape Coral and Ft. Myers
Moonlight Bay Cottage, is the perfect place to stay its great for Fishing, perfect for a honeymoon, watching the Dolphins, manatees, otters, osprey and lots of other bird watching or for just relaxing in peace and quite by the pool.

A wonderful cottage, with a great view. The cottages are clean and modern, the swimming pool is almost your own, and the dock is a great feature. There are a number of excellent restaurants within minutes of the cottages.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Hi Beryl and Stan: Hope all is well with you. Mike and I got home to Ohio last night. We have talked about nothing else but what a wonderful stay we had at Moonlight Bay Cottage. Mike could fish and I could swim and lay in the sun and lillie was safe(the puppy). We have decided that we are coming back next year if you will have us, we are so much more relaxed. So after the first of the year we will be in touch with you about dates. It will be off season probably around the same time. Thank you again Mike & GeogiaDid you find this review helpful? Great little setup right on the water with a little beach to launch your kayak from, or just sit by the pool. Nicely decorated and clean. I loved the little village too, with the Shrimp boats and historic cottages. It was like going back in time to the way Florida used to be. I would highly reccomend it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

first stayed here two years ago and fell in love with this cute lovers cottage and Matlacha, lying in the pool watching the osprey flying overhead with fish in their claws! This place is the original hippies village, it has a charm all of its own, like stepping back in time. Keep on returning for more old fashioned hospitality from our hosts. Don't want to go on too much or it'll get to busy to book next year!Owner response: Come on back Mel and Bob, its so much fun to have you both visit, Carrabers is waiting too.
