My Wife and I had a great stay at White Sands. This was our first visit to the Keys and White Sands was perfect. From the great ocean view to the heated pool, everything is well maintained. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, the dock and relaxing with beverages at the pool. Even the resident Geckos and Iguanas came to visit daily and made for a perfect tropical vacation. As others have said it was difficult to get motivated to go anywhere else. We did manage a day trip to Key West and half day fishing on the ‘Marathon Lady”. Attempted Kayaking also. We tried out several of the local restaurants and the food was great! Also picked up Grouper and grilled on the deck. Loved the Gas Grill one of the best I have ever used. May have to upgrade the one at home. White Sands is one of the best Beach houses we have rented and we hope to return soon!

My recent visit to White Sands was one of many over the past several years. Having stayed at other properties, I finally found perfection in White Sands. The interior is immaculately clean and the property itself is well groomed and beautiful. I've had the pleasure of seeing spotted eagle rays, manatees and sea turtles from the dock as well as a variety of fish. I love to swim from the dock while my husband loves to lounge in the warm pool (when he is not fishing from the dock). The house has high-end appliances and is elegantly decorated. The owner takes pride in assuring a first rate vacation experience and is pro-active about updating the home. Although we've yet to use them, the property also has two kayaks available for use as well as snorkel equipment. Although we always plan to sightsee when we visit, we have a hard time leaving this property - even for a day - as it suits all of our needs.

We had a wonderfully relaxing week at White Sands. The property was even better than the description and pictures! The location was perfect and beautiful! We saw many different fish, graceful rays, and even a sneaky horseshoe crab - all off the dock. And caught a few! The pool was totally secluded and just the perfect temp. We especially loved the tropical colored adirondack chairs and the hammock on the beach, and spent many an hour reading and watching the water and sky. The 'midway' location was perfect for sightseeing, and we recommend a day at Bahia Honda State Park, a trip to see the Key deer (you will see many!), the Dolphin Research Center, and Sombrero Beach. There are many snorkling places as well. As to restaurants, we mostly cooked (the kitchen has pretty much all you need to make whatever you want.) but we did enjoy the stone crab claws at the little upstairs tiki hut at the end of 35th st. (?Keys Fisheries?) And there were others, but can't remember.. We spent a few hours in Key West, but couldn't bear to be away from the peacefulness at 'our' house, so came back! Go to the end of the dock for sunsets and sit on the front deck over the garage for star-gazing. We really loved it, extremely well maintained; the owners are a delight to deal with. Our security deposit came back within 2 weeks or less. We were hoping to win the Mega-Millions while we were there so we could just buy White Sands and just stay there forever! We had 2 couples and played a hand of cards to determine who got the larger Master Suite. My husband and I got the smaller one, but we felt like we won because it was such a great private hideaway. We liked it best! (so no worries to 2 couples trying to decide who gets which room. Both are desireable.) There are banana trees and you may cut the bananas, and a few coconuts will fall while you are there...we ate them too! I think we all agree, it was our best vacation in years. Truly relaxing and stress-free. And the house contributed much to this feeling. We will return! This is THE place to get away from it all!
Owner response:We are happy to hear that your group enjoyed their week in the Florida Keys and that "White Sands" exceeded your expectations. We are very fortunate to have great caretakers as they work hard keeping the home in top condition. Thank you for sharing your vacation story with us. I loved hearing about your activities and can't wait to get down for a visit! Hope to have you back again soon.

It was a pleasure to spend a week at White Sands with our traveling friends! The bedrooms were so lovely that we decided to switch rooms on Wednesday so we could both enjoy the master suite's view of the bay. We dined in and out on fresh fish, shrimp and key lime pie every day, and the French coffee press started the mornings off right. The key lime trees provided us with that great juice to compliment our drinks by the pool or on the beach! Such a restful quiet vacation with so many beautiful birds to spot- the ibis, herons, pelicans, plus the sting rays, sea turtle and many fish near the dock. It's a true tropical paradise! We hope to return to enjoy it again!

Our party of 4 adults enjoyed this beautiful home. Our vacation goal this year was to stay put and relax, and White Sands was the perfect spot for that to come true! Great location, beautiful views from the house the beach and the dock! Caught lots of fish from the dock, and saw some incredible sights. The pool area is very private and comfortable. Amenities were a plenty and Doug & Donna were very helpful. Hope we see you next year!
Owner response:Thank you Brian for your review. We love this home and the Grassy key area and are glad to hear you enjoy it too! Our caretakers do an excellent job taking care of the place in our absence. I will pass your comment along to them. Looking forward to having you return next year or sooner if you can get away! My wife and I, and another couple, just returned from our week at White Sands. We had a great time. The house is very nice, clean, comfortable and well furnished. The yard is beautiful and well kept. The weather was warm and sunny too. Grassy Key is an ideal location. Key West is just over an hour away, and restaurants or shopping at Marathon Key is only a few minutes away. We’re all hoping to return again soon. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

"White Sands" is wonderful. Everything about this house says Vacation and Relaxation. We arrived and simply did not want to leave. My husband and I were able to unwind...relax in the hammock, sit on the dock, swim, snorkel kayak and more. My eight year old son was in heaven fishing and exploring. The home is adorable and more than comfortable. Everything you need and more is right there. Because the Keys offer so much to see and do we did venture out and enjoy! Bahia Honda State Park, Charter Fishing, The Dolphin Research Center and Key West. We certainly recommend this home to anyone who wants to get away and relax!!! We hope to return soon.

Wonderful home to just relax and enjoy the ocean. Lay-out of home is great with two bedrooms and private baths. Beautiful views from dining area when enjoying your meals. Fell asleep several times in the hammock. Landscaping around pool is just right and we ate bananas from the trees. Fantastic kitchen. And the porch around the perimeter of the house is great to just sit and watch the view. We saw sea turtles, dolphins, sea horses, sting rays, etc from the pier/dock and the sunsets are unbelievable. We drove into Key West and spent one night and went on a wine and wind sailboat sunset tour........... It is only 45 miles away and you drive across 7 mile bridge and across Deer Key and see the 2 foot tall deer. If we could change a thing, we wouldn't even try............perfect get away vacation in The Keys. Love White Sands home on Grassy Key.

My wife and our two grown children just returned from our week at White Sands. I had not been to the Keys since the ealry sixties and was afraid that the old Florida that I remembered wouldn't be there anymore - well it still exists here at White Sands on Grassy Key. The house, pool, landscaping and even the little sandy beach are all perfect - your own piece of paradise. More than enough good places to eat and rent boats on Grassy Key and in Marathon - no need to get in the car and go anywhere else.

This property exceeded my expectations. The photos are accurate, but don't do it justice. My only quibble, and I had to think hard to find one, was that the pool heater didn't compensate for the unusually cool weather we had. Given the expense of heating a pool, though, I wouldn't have expected the heater to be fired up to the maximum, and given our weather, the maximum would have been required. The kitchen was more well appointed than my own - you could easily prepare every meal there if you desired. The caretakers returned our call immediately when we couldn't figure out the heating system, and had the property in pristine condition when we arrived. The living area is one level, but a full flight of stairs is required to get to it, so it is not handicapped accessible and could not reasonably be made so - just be aware of this if your party has someone with limited mobility. The two bedrooms are well appointed, and the master is huge. This property might not be ideal for toddlers because of the stairs, but small families who can do with two bedrooms will be very comfortable. There is really no room to accomodate extra people in the common area, and having more than four people in the house might get cramped. The caretaker stated that the owner prefers a 4 person limit, and given the layout, that's very reasonable. I went with a girlfriend, we used both bedrooms and we had more than adequate space. The washer/dryer was very appreciated, and allows for packing light. There are very good restaurants with a 5 - 10 mile radius. Fish Tales and Keys Fisheries were casual favorites. Don't miss the Turtle Hospital - it's fascinating, and your admission goes to a great cause. The Dolphin Research Center is about 1 minute away, and kids (little and big) will love it. The property has a dock, and there is a boat rental agency next to the Dolphin Research Center, so it's perfect for fishermen and divers/snorkelers. I would come back to this property on a regular basis with absolutely no changes, and can't even think of a suggestion for the owner - it's pretty close to perfect!

What a fabulous week! We like to travel to different beaches and compare to what we have at home. We hail from "God's Country", the low country beaches of South Carolina, Pauleys Island, Litchfield, NOT Myrtle Beach! This is pretty darn close to our favorite! The general consensus is that we wouldn't love it weren't for this great house! If it's possible to wear out a pool, we have done it! We have not wanted for anything, this house is truly equipped in every way. Doug and Donna have been gracious and we felt we could call on them if needed. The flowers, wine, and key lime cookies were such a lovely treat. Thanks! When we began to "repeat" beaches, we certainly have Grassy Key and White Sands on the top of our list. Thanks again, Beth and Benjamin Connelly & Gayle and Gene Johnson PS. Hideway Cafe is divine!! Sombrero Beach was the #1 choice after checking out all 3.

We have enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home, loved the views, the sunsets, the kayaks, and the pool. We looked for the turtle tracks in the mornings, but never found any - we did see the iguana and the barracuda. We rented a boat and did some sightseeing in Key West, but mostly we enjoyed relaxing at this beautiful property. This was our first time to visit the Keys, and we all agreed that if we had stayed elsewhere it just wouldn't have been the same. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your lovely home for the week. It is a great escape from city life! Our family enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets, the great seafood, and the cool and refreshing pool after snorkeling in the backyard. We saw large iguanas, dozens of spiny lobster, a few nurse sharks, a raccoon, and a ray right in the vicinity of the property. Our favorite activity by far was snuba or hook diving in Coffin's Patch - the reef had beautiful cora, colorful fish and we even swam beside a nurse shark! We also enjoyed feeding the huge tarpin at Robby's Marina. We had such a great stay that we hope to come back next year. Thanks also to Doug and Donna who maintain this poperty so nicely and help "out-of-towners" get the most of out of their vacations. :) Patrick, Charlotte, Elizabeth and Christina PS - Loved the kayaks!!

What a perfect place to celebrate our 25th anniversary! We have enjoyed every minute of our stay. Although the seas have been too rough to snorkel the reefs, we did make it out one day on the bay side. The sunsets from the dock have been amazing. Spent the day at Bahia Honda beach, beautiful place. The Island restaurant proved to be excellent food and drink. Also had a great pizza at Marathon Pizza and Pasta. Somewhat hidden but well worth the find. We were beginning to think the iguana was an urban legend - until mid-week when we spotted one. (It was larger than I expected!) But stayed down on the beach. The pool has been a real treat. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovely home. Thank you for everything. Cheryl and Greg

What a blessing to be able to enjoy such a Paradise. Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime for Al and I. Mostly we have relaxed and enjoyed "White Sands". Such peace and tranquility and a little piece of heaven has been ours for this week. Weather has been really great. I have some wonderful photos of "White Sands" and the fish off the dock. I have learned to relax again and really hate the thought of leaving. I did get to see the little black stingray and several other species that I don't know what they are. I have spent a lot of time on the dock and what spectacular sunrises and sunses. This trip has been great for Al especially since his knee surgery. It has given him a chance to relax and unwind. He has taken videos of the birds, absolutely beautiful. Today these birds have eaten constantly from sunrise to sunset. Everything at White Sands is perfect. The house, the decor, wonderfully equipped kitchen. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful home with us. Al & Anna

White Sands has once again provided the home-base for a retreat where the average temps of 68-78 are 70 degrees above those at home! The famed Mallory Square sunsets at Key West entertained us and wooed us to exceptional restaurants, Kelly's on Whitehead and Louis' Backyard on Waddell Ave. Anyone who enjoys the thrill of sea animals would appreciate the excitement we had at Theater of the Sea with the Dolphin Swim and assorted shows. They provide not only interesting information about sea life and other animals but also historical, geological and geographical info as well. The beaches of the Keys lured us several days to the constant turquise waters where conch shells, coral and assorted marine life thrive. Key Deer at Big Pine were so friendly, one eagerly approached us as we browsed the area. Blue Hole gave us an incredible glimpse of two local gators basking in the sun. The week was topped of with a fishing trip that brought in delicious grouper and mackeral on a day the rest of the group enjoyed kayaking in the calm, smooth bay waters. White Sands is a perfect home to enjoy a variety of vacation opportunities that the Keys have to offer. Ok the Inside Scoop! Grab the hot chicken wings at Kelly's w/ a Key Lime Martini to compare to the key lime pie at Louis' Backyard. Ted, Dawn, Renee, Nick and Doug PS - Thanks for the goodies.

Terrific house! We've been to the keys twice before and this is a wonderful location. We rented a boat for the week, (Sea Bird Marina, nice folks and good boat) and snorkeled and/or dived every day. We also fished. The pool is great and unbelieveably refreshing given the wonderfully hot weather. We enjoyed many great restaurants in the evening, The Hideaway and Cabots were great! Friday headed to Key West to explore. Everything was great - only problem was the sea grass that came in. Regardless - it was a great vacation. Thanks!!!

Your place makes a magnificent vacation retreat! Beautiful furnishings, fluffy towels, gorgeous landscaping - I could go on! Truly an enjoyable and comfortable week for us - typical vacation, too much sun and good food in very untypical surroundings. Spent many eary mornings watching the daylight come in from the wicker chairs in front of the windows. Spotted both "IGGY" and "Isadore" the iguanas one morning when the tide was out. We photograpahed and videotaped them until we startled them and they swam off toward the piers. We loved the pool, the pier, the deck and the beach chairs - unfortunately had to use the washer/dryer as my sons clothes were stolen on the trip down! I doubt any future trip will top this! PLease hang on to this jewel so we can keep comming back and if you want to sell, call us!

We had an absolutely wonderful time in your beautiful home. Thank you sincerely for your generous welcome gifts, the pretty greeting card and the birthday banner! Such nice surprises and so very much appreciated. We enjoyed each and every day of our stay. Had clear and comfortable weather, some glorious sunsets, and used all the features of the house to the fullest. We were fortunate to have booked our week during the full moon! Fishing was quite successful some days, but bold Bertha the Barracuda grabbed a number of snapper off the line! She was very entertaining. Used the kayaks almost daily and really enjoyed paddling both east and west. All four of us also used the pool daily and found it totally relaxing. As I mentioned, Ron is a chef, so the kitchen equipment and amenities were used to their advantage. We cooked in several nights, including two occasions when he prepared the catch of the day. Another evening we grilled Florida lobsters (purchased from Keys Fisheries), accompanied by the Kendall Jackson. Very yummy. We ate at The Island (nice view; so-so food), The Quay (dining & $$$) and The Wreck (good, casual fun). Spent a day in Key West with lunch at The Half Shell (excellent fried shrimp) and supper at Duval on the Beach. The house and vacation was everything we wanted it to be. We also would love to return to White Sands one day and hope it will be as we remember it. You have made the entire experience of renting in the Keys a pleasure and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My 50th was a memorable occasion! Best regards,

Dear Katreena & Patrick, How can we thank you for your generous hospitality and for sharing your beautiful home with Dan and I, as well as my brother, Tony and his wife, Susan. We have truly enjoyed our stay here. The peace and tranquility for me have been heaven sent. It was just what I needed to feel young and alive again. My sister-in-law, Susan lived for the sunset and sunrise. My brother, Tony couldn't get enough fishing (he, of course, did not catch a single fish) and Dan was in his element. He actually took some time to enjoy his cigar and his margarita without the phone constantly ringing off the wall. Thank you again for your special gift to us and for making us feel special. We came to the Keys for our daughter's winter break. Lauren is 13 and she loved the kayaks? The pool is so nice too. We have been scuba diving, spent a day in Key West. We sunbathed and walked on Duck Key, which is beautiful. We walked Key Colony Beach and Sombrero Beach. Then we went to the Dolphin Research Center which was the best ever Dolphin experience! Very friendly staff and very loving dolphins? We rented a boat from Captain Pips, excellent time, snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing. Thank you again for sharing your lovely home with us. Take care and may God Bless you All! The Haiglers
