Driving down along the river after visiting the Soo locks, we saw the River Cove sign by the road, and stopped in. We were warmly welcomed, and immediately booked a couple of nights. Very clean and neat. The pictures accurately reflect what is there. Quiet place to sleep. It nicely provides the ability to closely watch freighters going both up and down the St. Mary's river. I had sadly forgot my binoculars to view the ships, but wait, there was one setting in the window that the owners had provided. What attention to detail! The upstairs unit has a great view of the river. Of course, that means going up and down the stairs. The owners were most accommodating to our special request. The ability to book fishing and boat trips is a plus, although we did not take advantage of it. Instead we did day trips using this as our base. If you spend time in the area, this is certainly a place to fully consider. Having read all the previous reviews, I agree.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

In the area to visit friends and booked this condo for a few nights. Never having visited the area before, we were not sure what to expect. Upon our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations provided by River Cove. Very clean condo with a wonderful view. A garage to park your vehicle was an added plus. A rainy day did not affect our stay, as this bright condo with it's scenic view proved to be a relaxing get-away in spite of the weather outside. We will definitely stay at River Cove again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

We luckily found River Cove through an internet search. It was our first visit to the state of Michigan and Capt Al & Lucy started it off better than we could have hoped for. We arrived to a clean and spacious condo with plenty of room to relax and feel at home. Within minutes of our arrival, we saw 2 large freighters passing in the river outside the house. My husband and I booked a full-day charter with Capt Al as well. Al definately enjoys what he does and the passengers' safety and enjoyment are a priority. It was our first time fishing for walleye ad we had a blast. In addtion to the 3 'keeper' walleye we caught, we had 2 catfish, a nice small-mouth bass, and enough perch for a great fish fry. Capt Al also provided suggestions on how to prepare our catch, so we had a wonderful dinner of fresh walleye and perch that evening. The location is great and easy to get to. It was approximately 90 min drive for us from the Pellston Airport and is a great 'home base' for many day trips in the area. We look forward to staying with Al & Lucy the next time we are in the area! Don't forget to ask him about his homemade smoked whitefish spread...it is amazing!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

We just returned from a fabulous adventure to the UP of Michigan. We found this rental to be exzctly like the photos or better. It was a great property for the four of us(2couples.)From here we had a short drive to the Shipwreck museum @ Whitefish Point, Taquamenon Falls, Agawa Train tour anf Mackinac Island. Captain Al and Lucy were perfect hosts, and they were very helpful with our questions. We did not allow enough time to see it all. We spent 3 nights. The next time we'll reserve 5. The passing lake steamers really are right out the window. Enjoy!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

I am a fairly avid fisherman... I have been all over the USA & Canada, Russia, the Gulf, and offshore at both coasts. I came to walleye fish with my wife for the kickoff to a spontaneously planned anniversary weekend. First awesome thing about Captain Al- he was straightforward about pricing and availability and luckily was able to accommodate us WITH FLEXIBILITY and on short notice in our case! My wife is not as much into fishing as I am. Second awesome thing about Captain Al- he has plenty of facts to share about the region that kept us both interested and captivated during the slow bits of the trip that could have dragged on and on had it not been for him. My wife is also not too good at handling the uncommon heat wave that struck this area. Third awesome thing about Captain Al- he recognized my wife's troubles and was prepared not only with the equipment she needed to cool down after overheating, but more impressively, he treated her effectively and with a calm sense of leadership. I am sure as a reader, you might want to know about the looks and integrity of the location, boat, etc.. It is JUST AS DESCRIBED. Clean, welcoming, and the building has a rustic beauty to it that makes it really charming. We hired a charter boat captain and ended up with a fellow that my wife and I look forward to fishing with again. That is the mark of a good captain- not numbers or action. Those cannot be controlled. The day was super hot and calm and clear both in the water and the sky. Those are never optimal conditions for walleye, yet the Captain had us both on the fish within MINUTES of dropping the lines. This guy is the real deal. It was a total fluke that my wife and I found this fellow, but a blessing in retrospect. THIS One charter pay experience made us want to come back and stay. Let me really clarify- had it not been for the captain's preparation, our weekend would have been shot! AFTER THE TRIP, the captain gave us a list of good places for us to spend our romantic weekend together, the good places around town to eat, things to definitely see before we go, and a whole list of things that catered to the observations about us that he made during the fishing trip. In a word, WOW.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities.

We've stayed 3 times now, and we love it! There's a great view of the freighters as they go by and it's wonderfully located near the locks. Our boys enjoy the yard and our family enjoys picnics at the picnic table. It's very clean and comfortable.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

I tried booking 2 nights at the River Cove but unfortunately they were booked solid. Thru my emails with Captain Al, I learned of his fishing charters and Soo Locks Tours. We arrived in the Soo on a Friday , early afternoon. I called Al and asked for his availability to take us (Parents with 2 adult children) on the Soo Locks Tour. He said YES and boy am I glad. I never expected the tour we got. Upon arrival at the River Cove, Al took us into his home to use the "Head" before our tour. His house was beautiful and his wife was very nice. I immediately wished I was staying at his condo. We boarded the boat which I would guess to be 20-24 foot and Al showed us all of his credentials, explained all of the motors and safety devices and we were on our way. As we drove along the St Mary's Al pointed out everything along the shore line (and beyond). He explained in great detail everything in, around and about the Soo Locks and Sault Ste Marie MI. As we approached the Soo Locks, he called ahead for permission to enter the Locks, Green Light, Granted and in we went. We were 20 plus feet below Lake Superior. The gates closed and they started raising the Locks, with us in it. AMAZING. When we got up to Lake Superior level, there were bleachers full of people waiting to catch a glimpse of a freighter. Boy were they surprised to see us. After exiting the Soo Locks, we rode around Lake Superior, along the Canadian Shore and returned thru the Canadian Locks. Overall the trip took just over 2 1/2 hours. We did see other very large Locks Tour Boats out there (they hold up to 250 people per boat) and are we glad we did the tour with Captain Al. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone interested in this type of tour. Almost forgot, Al brought along some of his famous Whitefish spread and crackers and supplied us with water. It is a great experience you do not want to miss :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

This was the perfect stay! Better than motel/hotel in that it was very much like "home" feel; to be able to cook if we wanted, to be able to have company (family in the area) over if we wanted, to be able to throw a load of laundry in when we needed! But the best part is the location/scenery, the river and the activity on it was peaceful and beautiful, the morning sunrise as well as the daily ships were magnificent. There are plenty of windows for the view of all the beauty surrounding this area on the river. We also greatly appreciated the no smoking policy which helped it to be a clean place. We loved it and will choose this again for our next visit back!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband was very fond of the view from the patio of the passing freighters and ships heading to the locks. The condo was very clean and well set up as well as very quiet and peaceful. If we head this way again, we would definitely reserve the condo again as well as recommend it to others.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

You coudlnt' find a cleaner place to stay! Al/Lucy are very easy to deal with and their pride of ownership shows. Lucy is quite the green thumb as the grounds are lovely. We were curious to the noise of ships going by, but you don't hear them as they glide through the water. They are beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed watching them from the comfort of the condo or the back yard. This is a great place to stay, very clean and all the comforts of home, even a garage to park the car :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

Since then, we have used VRBOs in our winter travels to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Florida & the Hawaian Islands. We reside in Key Largo in the Florida Keys for the winter months of Jan. April. During the past 16 years, we have and still rent from VRBO owners from two week to 4 month stays. Owning our waterfront rental for 23 years, we know that YOU WANT: CLEAN - SAFE - QUIET & AFFORDABLE WATERFRONT ACCOMMODATIONS. So, if your coming to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and want this kind of accommodation, PLEASE, e-mail us or give us a call, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Your hosts, Capt. Al & Lucy Tipton, owners.
Why the Owner Chose Sault Ste. Marie:
LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION. Our rental is located in one of the most SCENIC locations in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Water front accommodations are very limited in Sault Ste. Marie so the decision to own and rent was with out a question the thing to do in the SOO.
