Let me first say that if you choose to stay at this condo, you will not be disappointed! We were originally thinking we would get a hotel in Condado since it was our first time visiting PR and we didn't really know the areas too well. I wanted to be in the action, but most importantly, somewhere that I felt safe. Upon more research we came across this listing and I'm so glad we did! Ocean Park is a GREAT area and the beach is so beautiful! It is close enough to the touristy hot spots, yet in an area with a lot of locals and other cool things to do. The condo is in the perfect location and is literally a five minute walk to the beach. Ocean Park's beach looks like a picture on a postcard and is much less crowded than the beaches in front of the hotels. The owner, Vera was super helpful and always available to help us out with any questions we had. She gave us so much great information on the area, including my favorite- places to eat and price ranges! We ate so much good food based on her recommendations! (If you go to Mango's, ask for Jun as your server- he is awesome!) Inside, the condo is spacious and clean. My boyfriend and I stayed here with another couple and it was perfect. The patio outside was a great spot to relax and have some drinks before heading out to dinner in the evenings. We rented a car while we were here and never had a problem finding a spot to park. Renting a car was another great decision. It gave us the ability to do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted and if you book one ahead of time it is super cheap! I really cannot say enough great things about this condo. If you want a safe, clean and spacious place to stay that is close to the beach, look no more and book this one!

We had a wonderful time in San Juan and were very pleased with the condo. It was clean, well appointed, had everything we needed, including comfy beds, lots of cooking utensils, pots, pans, glassware, dishes, etc., and plenty of linens and bath and beach towels. It's just a 5 minute walk away from the beach, which was absolutely beautiful, clean and not packed with people, and we really enjoyed the tranquility and location/proximity. We wandered around and found the convenience store, the Walgreen's, the American Pharmacy (which came in handy a couple of times as they have a small grocery section there) and the SuperMax (great selection of food and grocery items there - we bought BEAUTIFUL rib-eye steaks and had a feast one night, utilizing the little charcoal grill out on the patio). We ate at the little outdoor food stand up the block (on Loiza) and had the best fish tacos with a beautiful aioli sauce - absolutely awesome street food! We did eat at Mango's and it was just starting to fill up, so that place gets jumping and appears to be a hot-spot. The service and food were excellent. We hopped a cab and went poking around in Old San Juan - had some delicious pastelles (my husband is Puerto Rican and insisted on locating these wonderful delicacies and they were very much enjoyed by all) and also enjoyed some delicious cake (wonderful cake!) and nibblies at the Berlin Cafe We also spent some time at the old fort, which really affords some breathtaking views of the city. We headed out to Aguadilla and went horse back riding on the beach at sunset, then to the other side of the island to go deep sea fishing outside of Fojardo. We hiked in the El Yunque rain forest (and Shawn actually went climbing by himself and had a great time going up to the peak - Taloa and I kicked back a bit while he did that, had a nice lunch on the patio and watched TV, while resting our feet!!). All in all, it was a wonderful vacation and the condo was so comfy and homey. I highly recommend it as an affordable alternative to the rather expensive hotels in the area. Very homey and comfortable and Tony, the caretaker is a very patient and helpful person (we got lost trying to find the condo and he walked us through it!). We will definitely come back the next time we are in San Juan! 5 stars!!

We used the apartment during a recent teaching job at the University. The location was fantastic, the rooms were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Very clean. A great place to rest up after a long day of teaching. We hope to stay here again when we return! Outstanding value.

Thanks Vera and John - We had an amazing time in San Juan and really enjoyed the condo. Your place is ideally located and very comfy. I can see why everyone loves it with an excellent location. Thanks for the great food recommendations! We enjoyed Bebo's and Kasalta and actually ended up going to the latter daily for breakfast or lunch. Old San Juan was definitely one of the best places I have even been to and by far exceeded our expectations. We didn't get a chance to go to Carli's but walked past it and it seems like a great place. Our favorite restaurants would, however, have to be Marmalade and Jose Enrique. Both were fantastic offering some of the best food we have every had anywhere in the world. Although pricey, they are definitely worth every penny and the experience. Thanks again for offering us a great place to stay and for your advise on where to go and what to do. Our only regret is not being able to stay longer but there is always next time. We all agreed that San Juan was better than what we expected it to be. Next time, we will definitely check out Vieques as well which we didn't get to visit in this short trip.

We had a wonderful stay here and Vera and John were most resourceful in directing us around to eateries, taxis, beach and so on. The pictures were an accurate representation of the apartment and we found it nice and clean. Our stay was comfortable and the short walk to the beach was great! The apartment was a short walking distance from several convinient stores, bakery, and we did some clothes shopping too :). It worked out better for us without renting a car and cabs were easy to get. I reccomend staying here if you wanna save some money and get a bit more of a homey feeling. Vera, thanks for everything...we will be back if we visit San Juan again!

We stayed in July and had excellent access to good food, shopping, the beach, and all of San Juan. The condo is spacious and comfortable; the beds were especially comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped. We enjoyed the beach equipment (towels, beach chairs, and umbrella) We would recommend this as a desirable and affordable option for visiting Puerto Rico and would definitely stay here again.

Hi Vera and John, Just 2 days after our vacation to your wonderful apartment in San Juan, I had to travel overseas for business. I have just returned and wanted to let you know how much [my sons] and I enjoyed our stay. Your apartment is in a perfect location and is very nicely decorated, making us feel most comfortable and right at home. Most days we left early and came home late, trying to squeeze in all the adventures we could. My boys and I agreed that this was one of the best vacations we have ever had. San Juan has so much to offer. We hiked through Old San Juan, Del Morro, and El Yunque, kayaked in the Bio Bay, and took the ferry to Vieques Island to ride bikes to the beach and snorkel. Thank you so much again! Best regards, Cindi

Myself, 2 of my adult children, and my daughter-in-law stayed in this condo from April 14-21, 2010. The place looked exactly as pictured and was extremely clean. We never ever, not even one time, ran out of hot water, and, after the beach, we showered one right after the other! The place just welcomes you at the end of a sun soaked day with excellent air conditioning! My family and I will definitely use this location again, and we're already planning on returning in the fall or winter. The whole experience was simply a pleasure! Thank you so much for sharing this property with us!

Arriving at casa gertrudis was a pleasure. I have always preferred staying in places that offer the opportunity to experience the life of the residents of that country, while still affording the comforts of home. This is exactly what we found at gertrudis. We were a matter of minutes from the beach and had no problem carrying a days worth of supplies the distance. Additionally we found the locals to be very helpful in identifying local eateries or attractions beyond the beautiful Oceanside. Gertrudis is a short ride away from old San Juan and some of the most quaint shopping I've seen in my travels as well as historical sites well worth a visit. I would highly recommend gertrudis for the traveler interested in a vacation where you don't feel like being restricted and reduced to being simply a tourist.

Casa Gertrudis is a really cosy and tasteful place in a good location - not far from Old San Juan and almost everything in a walking distance - beautiful beach, shops, food, etc. We were two couples with a car. The condo was spacoius enough for all of us and had a lot more amenities than we expected - broadband Internet, all the kitchen gadgets, beach stuff, audio-video things etc. The house is at the end of a small cul-de-sac but we did not have any problems with parking space (car was not-so-small Ford Taurus). We had a great time and really enjoyed our staying at Casa Gertrudis. I could recommend it to anyone :) Finally, Vera and John were very helpful and friendly to as well as the property manager Edwin and neighbor Tato.

We had a wonderful time on trip to Casa Gertrudis this February! The apartment is very comfortable and very nicely remodeled. The living room, dining room and kitchen were very spacious and the beds in the bedrooms were super comfortable! Getting the keys from Edwin (property manager) was very easy and the procedure went very smoothly. The owners provide lots of towels, beach chairs and a cooler, all of which were useful to us. The location is very good, within quick walking distance to Kasalta and other eating places. We had a wonderful time on our trip, and would have loved to stay longer. We will definitely stay at this apartment again.

Our recent stay at Casa Gertrudis was delightful. Our daughters prefer to soak up the sun on the beach and my husband and I would rather linger over coffee on the charming patio. The location enabled us to each do our own thing. The property was very clean and well maintained. John and Vera are extremely friendly and accessible and gave us great directions to all the nearby attractions. We used a taxi to go to Old San Juan two days and we were surprised at the low fares. Another night we walked to the hotel district in Condado and ate at one of the local restaurants. We got caught in a rain/windstorm but it only lasted about ten minutes and added to our large list of fond memories of beautiful San Juan. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.

The location was perfect and the amenities were top notch. Just a block or two away from one of San Juan's best beaches and conveniently located close to shops, stores, and places to eat. Our only gripe was that we didn't stay long enough...

This was my third stay with friends at Casa Gertrudis. We have always enjoyed our stay here. We absolutely the convenience of its location. It's a short walk to the beach, to stores, to restaurants, to the bakery, and even to the casino! This time we shopped for food at a brand new market on Loiza Street called Meats N'More...it even has organic food! We love Vera and John's home...it's like a home away from home...warm, cozy, comfortable. Trip #4 coming soon...

We left our cold Midwest winter behind for one week of warmer weather on the beach in Ocean Park. The condo was perfect for a couple of professional woman who needed a week away. We instantly felt at home when we were met with the property manager. Our favorite days were spent walking a few minutes to local restaurants (try Pinky's and the bakery) and at the beach. Ocean Park beach was lovely shared mostly with Puerto Rican natives. Condado is much more touristy and about a mile away with the usual chain restaurants and hotels. Old San Juan is only 15minutes away in traffic. As a runner, I loved being on the main jogging path in our area. We enjoyed a day in the El Yunque rainforest as well. The condo neighbors were kind and helpful. Driving was fine, but parking in San Juan was at a premium almost everywhere. I would recommend Casa Geturdis to anyone looking for a relaxing beach vacation!

John & Vera- We wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that we really enjoyed our stay at your Condo in Ocean Park. This was our first trip to Puerto Rico and we found your place to be fantastic, clean and very well kept. The location is also very nice as you are close to the beach, a lot of restaurants, etc in walking distance. We also appreciated your recommendations in terms of some of the restaurants as Pinky's (fantastic breakfast), Op's (great Italian Food) and the french bakery is great as well. We did spend a day at El Yunge which was a great experience we will never forget, and also went to Fajardo and did some snorkeing off the coral reefs! If anyone is ever looking for a recommendation have them contact Mingo's Charter Service as he was reasonable and really knew what he was doing! Overall a fantastic trip with a lot of great memories. We will definitely contact you again as we would love to come back to Puerto Rico and see some other areas we were not able to get to this time around. You are wonderful to work with and made this very easy for us. Thanks again for everything! We will definitely recommend your place to anyone that is looking to travel to Puerto Rico as we found it to be an incredible value and quite a find!

Close to the beach, close to San Jaun (both old and new) this property was just perfect. My wife and step-son walked to the beach every morning for a ritual shell-search; full-sze waher/dryer was pefect for towels and bathing suits; large living-room and dining area allowed us to eat breakfast and lunch together (we always ate dinner at one of the amazing local restaurants). Belive it or not, my only complaint was the ever-present "cucoo" fogs with their continual maitng songs -- which we were able to "tune-out" during the night with the air conditioning.

We recently had the good fortune to stay at Casa Gertrudis. Its the perfect place to stay in San Juan. Tucked away in a quiet Ocean Park neighborhood, Casa Gertrudis is in the ideal location: a couple of blocks from a beautiful, large beach, within walking distance of Condado and a short cab ride to Old San Juan. Its a lovely oasis away from the hustle and bustle of other parts of town. The apartment itself is finely appointed with crisp white wall and wood molding in the Spanish colonial style. The handsome artwork that adorns the walls shows the care attention to detail of the owners in making the apartment welcoming and special. We particularly liked the patio for morning coffee or cocktails; it has the feel of a narrow street in Old San Juan. We stayed at Casa Gertrudis with our three children and our older daugthers often would wander off to some of the local dress and shoe shops to try out their Spanish. Obviously we had a great time at Gertrudis and would recommend it highly.

Just returned from a very relaxing vacation in San Juan. Casa Gertrudis is by far worth every penny, and then some. Location is great. Ocean Park is a great location not far from Condado where you have a mix of hotels, and restuarants. We ate at all the local places like Kasaltas, Pinkys, and Dunbars. All within walking distance. We walked to Condado and ate at Yerba Buena(Great cuban food), along with Ropa Vieja. The apt is very nicely furnished along with the awesome beds, all was great. We had beach chairs, coolers, towels and all you need to relax on the beach with. The apt is a home away from home in Puerto Rico. Our annual Puerto Rico trip will now include Casa Gertrudis from now on. Thank you John and Vera. We loved it!!

Me and two friends rented this place in the spring this year. We were amazed at how the place was even nicer then it looked in the pictures. The location is fantastic, a short walk to a beautiful beach. There is a great place to eat near by called Pinky's it is one of the better sandwich shops I've ever been to and they deliver to the beach! Also on the beach there was a guy in a white chef's suit that sells empenadas definitely worth finding... you cant miss him he is always right at the beach near the place and screams " HEEEELLLLOOOOO" at the top of his lungs. Would love to go back, if you are on the fence... this place is worth every penny.

We would definitely rent the Casa Gertrudis again.

I would recommend Casa Gestrudis to all. Spent a week with 3 good friends during New Eye's break. We all had a great time and enjoyed the location with the local restaurants and bars (Dunnbar was great). The condo is spacious, with all the amenities you will ever need. The best thing is the location. In between Condado and Isla Verde and a couple of blocks from the beach. Can't beat that. The response and the service from the owners, the neighbors and the property manager were all outstanding. Will book the same place the next time I go to San Juan.

Casa Gertrudis was our oasis away from the hectic pace of New York. We would adventure off during the day and come home to a very comfortable place. Gaby the property manager was so helpful when we had problems renting our car. Old San Juan, the beaches, the best restuarants, El Yunque were all at our fingertips. Even though we never met Vera and John personally they were professional and up front with us always. Here's wishing your stay will be as memorable as ours was. Puerto Rico was everything we expected.

Our family stayed at Casa Gertrudis May 15th-23rd of this year. We fell in love with this property as soon as we walked in. Everything was so nicely decorated, clean and organized, it felt like home. Every single day we traveled about and every day we came home tired. Thankfully the house has such comfortable beds that we overslept on more than one occasion. My mom who has trouble sleeping away from home had no such issues at Gertrudis. From what she told me, it was some of the best sleep she's ever gotten. When we do come back to PR we'll certainly stay at Casa Gertrudis.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Gertrudis. We had a one year old daughter who also loved the place. Surprisingly, the house was very baby friendly, with very few sharp edges and safety hazards. We tried to go to the beach at least twice a day because it was so easy! Thanks Vera and John.

1st Renter/Adventurer at Casa Gertrudis...Yes, I was the guinea pig renter (along w/ two of my best friends) that paved the way for all of the rest... and it was absolutely fabulous! The apartment is strategically located in Ocean Park, which allows for a quick cab ride anywhere. It is beautifully decorated, the beds are super comfortable, and the back yard patio is heaven for a glass of wine & a light snack to hold you over until venturing out. I felt completely submerged into the culture, safe, & chic (b/c of not staying in a typical hotel). Each morning my girlfriends & I woke up and cruised down the block to Pikny's to start our day & then visited various beaches. So far, my favorite is the Ritz Carlton, because they offer lavender infused ice towels and imaginative fruity drinks, the service can't be beat! I can't wait to go back...Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Our experience at Casa Gertrudis was absolutely delightful. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. Everything is fresh and new and the apartment is as nicely furnished as a private home. The kitchen is fully equipped(although we didn't really use it-too many good restaurants nearby- and Cassalta's is just down the street.) We found it comfortable for three people. Hannibal was fabulously helpful. It was a great first time experience in San Juan. I can't wait to go back! Joan Washington, DC

Owner response: Joan is refering to Anibal, our wonderful property manager.

My family and I spent Christmas in Puerto Rico at Casa Gertrudis. We had a wonderful time. We loved the comfortable, clean, spacious apartment and all the amenities it provided. It was walking distance to the beach and close to other tourist attractions and restaurants. I would love to stay at this apartment again in the future!

Just a quick note to thank you again for a wonderful vacation at your home in San Juan. It was a great occasion to spend time with my mother and sister and they were as thrilled as I was by the place and the surroundings. Having stayed in Condado and Isla Verde in the past, I really appreciated the relaxed, authentic and residential character of Ocean Park. And of course, its only a short bus ride to unforgettable Old San Juan. You really did a great job with the renovation, the furniture. It very much feels like a home with all that you need even great music CD's and candles:)I look forward to going back!

Three girlfriends and I stayed at Casa Gertrudis in January 2006. Casa Gertrudis is very comfortable, clean and perfect for a group of curious travelers, in our case, four adventurous ladies. Casa Gertrudis is located in Ocean Park (a beach town), two blocks from the shore, one block from chic restaurants, a walk to Condado and the grocery store and a taxi ride to Viejo San Juan. The apartment has one bathroom, one half bathroom, two bedrooms, a spacious living area and dining area. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a fabulous seating area outside. What we liked best about Casa Gertrudis was the location and how we felt immediately immersed in the Puerto Rican lifestyle. We weren’t staying in a sky scraper hotel with a casino, a place with flashy lights and commercial restaurants---we were with the locals and were treated kindly in a hospitable fashion. We felt extremely safe, comfortable and very happy with our entire stay. My girlfriends and I have decided to go back—Viva Puerto Rico!

Had a wonderful time at Casa Gertrudis. Adorable apartment. Loved the back patio. Great Location! Near the beach, stores and restaurants. I really loved the fact that you weren't in the middle of the hotel district, but in the middle of a real neighborhood just 3 blocks from Ocean Park Beach and around the corner from the most wonderful bakery, Kasaltas

Casa Gertrudis is perfect. There are so many positive things to say, it’s hard to know where to start. It's an easy walk to the beach. There are lots of restaurants around if you want to eat out. And of course shopping was around the corner – which made it easy to pick up food for the kitchen, souvenirs, etc. The apartment is spacious and beautifully decorated. We have two boys, 11 and 14, they loved it too. The outside patio is so peaceful and secluded, you feel like you’re on a tropical island – oh, that’s right you are! We would recommend your vacation home to everyone! Thank you for sharing it!
