New Years Getaway above the clouds

We rented this beautiful home over New Years with 2 other families. We had a total of 6 adults and 4 children from the ages of 3 to 7, plus a one-year-old baby. The house was big and spacious, clean, and cozy. The views were spectacular. On the first morning there it felt like we were in the clouds as a fog had engulfed everything around us. It was wonderful to watch the fog slowly disappear and the vineyards around us slowly appear. the second morning was completely different as we awoke to warm and bright sunlight that lit up the beautiful kitchen and made us want to rush our breakfast to visit with the animals and sit in the hot tub. The owners were out and about a few times while we were staying at Cripple Creek. They were very welcoming and friendly, yet gave us our space and peace. Our kids loved the animals. We fed the chickens with our leftover food and gave the horses apples. We never actually left the property during our 3-day-stay as the kids were entertained just by running around the big house and visiting the animals, playing in the hot tub or playing hide-and-seek inside the house. We also played a couple of games of soccer on the front lawn. The kitchen is fully stocked and we all love to cook together, so there was no need to leave the house. I would recommend this place for a family reunion or get-together of friends. Great for any season!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This review is long overdue! I stayed at Cripple Creek Ranch this past October for three nights with 9 of my close girlfriends from Cal Poly. From the get go Joanie was extremely responsive to emails and phone calls so I knew I was in good hands. It just so happened the day before our group was set to arrive it had been raining all day, making the driveway somewhat unstable. I received a call early that morning from Joanie letting me know that the road may not be in driving condition, however she was going to do everything in her power to get us up to the property, aka enlisting her son-in-law to drive us up the hill to the property if our cars could not make it. Turns out we were all able to make it up the driveway safely without the help of her son-in-law, but it's that kind of hospitality that Joanie will offer if you stay at Cripple Creek. The views are amazing, there is plenty of room in the house, the animals on the property are a fun bonus, the kitchen is fully stocked, there is plenty of toilet paper, the beds are comfortable, there isn't a bad thing I can say about this property. I would definitely consider coming back here! Only item to note for future renters, the closest grocery store is about 10-15 minutes away so if you don't want to drive far while you're on property. Stock up on groceries before you get there! Thank you Joanie!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This Thanksgiving spent at Cripple Creek Mountain Ranch was a tremendous success for our family, consisting of 7 adults, 5 children and a Golden Retriever. The children had great fun with the animals on the ranch; feeding the chickens, walking the goats, and Joanie was kind enough to let our granddaughter ride the horse and patiently walked the younger ones around the padock on horseback. The kitchen is huge and well-equipped so several people could be preparing meals, and the house was big, extremely comfortable, and worked well for us. The guys played golf, the women shopped in Paso Robles, we played endless card games, visited wineries and Morro Bay, soaked in the hot tub, and generally had the perfect family get-together. We enjoyed talking with Joe and Joanie who were always available if we needed anything.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

If you're looking for a charming, beautiful retreat near Paso wine country, I highly recommend Cripple Creek Ranch! The house itself is very spacious--we had 9 guests and there was plenty of room for all of us. The views are absolutely stunning. The hosts are very accommodating. As beautiful as the photos of the place are, I think it's better in person. Very satisfied visitor--would definitely return!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our group of 9 people had a really hard time finding a place for everyone + 2 dogs. Thankfully we found the Ranch! And what a wonderful find this place was! So much space - inside and outside, for everyone, dogs included. All of the ranch animals are so sweet and fun to visit. We were in Paso for wine tasting, but after arriving and finding out how great all of the amenities were, we really didn't want to leave! In fact we ended up spending more time by the pool, in the sauna, and cooking (with amazing fresh vegetables from the Ranch's garden!!!) than being out and about! The location, while not in Paso Robles downtown area, is actually really great. The views from atop the hill are breath-taking. Geneseo Road which turns into Linne Road are super for biking (and there are some nice wineries along the way). Overall a great place, great price. Joanie and Joe are super!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Sadly, we only got to enjoy this house for one night! Due to our daughter's wedding we were in and out until our last night. Great place to sit outside, watch the incredible views and drink nice wine especially with a full moon rising! A bit of a hike to get to, but, the pool and views are worth it! If you go be sure to say "HELLO" to Stogey Joe! The Thompson's.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed here for 4 days and had a fantastic time. The ranch is so beautiful. There are animals there that are unique such as a lama and a turkey. There are vineyards stretching as far as your eyes can see. It's peaceful and quiet..no sounds of city life. I loved every minute of my vacation. Thank you for a great weekend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Cripple Creek Ranch was a terrific experience. The house was large, clean, well maintained and extremely comfortable. The owners, Joanie and Joe, were very welcoming and fun to talk with. They stayed in a nearby cottage and were always accessible but never intruded on our stay. The views were spectacular, overlooking their horses, vineyards and miles of rolling hills. We shared the house with 3 other couples and never felt crowded or lacking privacy. I would highly recommend a stay at Cripple Creek.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We went last weekend with a group of friends for the wine festival. The house had a stunning hilltop view. It was well decorated and very nice. The rooms were big, the kitchen was new, big and open. The owners Joe and Joanie were very nice folks. We even got to milk the goat with Joanie. Really fun! Julia and the groupRecommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

When we planned a golf outing for several couples I decided to see if a VRBO rental would be available as opposed to a hotel. I found the "Ranch"and thought it would be perfect. 4 Bedrooms all with queen beds, up on a hill, out in the country and not far from Paso Robles. The place more than met our expectations. We found nice, informative owners, a well kept and fully equipped home with marvelous views of the area. We were lucky enough to have a full moon and beautiful weather. We had some of the of the other golfers over for dinner and had no problem cooking for the group in the large, well equipped kitchen. One of the couples had a six year old and he loved the pool, the open environment and the various animals kept in the pens and fields on the Ranch. Joanie, the owner, surprised us with eggs from their chickens. What a treat! I would highly recommend the Cripple Creek Ranch for anyone wanting to get away. One could just hang out there, visit the many wineries nearby and/or go into town as desired. We will be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: I fell in love with this magical place the first moment I saw it. My daughter and I were out for a Sunday afternoon drive in the country when we happened upon a private road with a realtor 'For Sale' sign. My daughter begged me to drive up the road to view the property. Reluctantly I turned onto the private road (worried we might be bothering the owners or tenants) and drove up to the very end of the lane which led us to the 'top of the world'. That innocent little side trip changed our lives forever . . .
Why the Owner Chose Paso Robles:
The peacefulness of the ranch. And, of course, the views . . .
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You are minutes away from Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton and San Miguel yet you feel as though you are in another world. Birds sing from dawn to dusk. Magnificent sunrises and sunsets. 13 acres away from it all 'on top of the world'.
Spacious 2 story country home overlooking the Creston valley below with vineyards,
ranches, the Huer Huera river and more to feast your eyes upon.
Large outdoor entertaining areas with a pool and jacuzzi.
Even though this is Central California, we have a distinct change of seasons and I love that!
