Watch the sunrise and sunset just steps from your front door on the Southern tip of Kaua’i. Spend the day relaxing by the pool and watching the ocean waves drift towards you, or stroll towards world famous Poipu Beach.
This 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo possesses the amenities you would expect from a luxury, 5 Star resort, including high speed internet, plus some extras that you might not expect, such as golf clubs, tennis rackets and boogie boards.
The master bedroom features all new furniture, a brand new king sized bed and Sealy mattress, 600 thread count sheets, down pillows, and even a tropical weight down comforter.
The large, airy living room is newly furnished and includes a flat screen TV, DVD player and sofa bed. Feel free to use the yoga mat and DVD’s to help you relax.
A gourmet kitchen has more accessories than you’ve come to expect in a typical vacation rental, including an espresso maker so you can sip your morning latte while watching the sun rise over the ocean.
The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be made into a king by request and is a comfortable distance from the master suite to provide privacy. For kids, we’ve stocked this bedroom with a DVD player and VCR.
For the beach, we have provided beach mats, beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach towels. In addition, we have a large cooler and plastic containers to transport your food and beverages to any picnic spot on the island. It’s only a 5 minute walk to the Grand Hyatt in one direction, and Brenneke Beach (great for body-surfing) and Poipu Beach on the other side.
Payment
A security deposit of $300 is required to reserve your reservation. Please check our calendar for availability before contacting us. Receipt of full payment of the rental fees plus taxes is required no later than 60 days prior to your check-in date. If reservations are made less than 60 days prior to check-in, full payment of rental fees plus taxes is required within seven (7) days of booking.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, and personal checks through PayPal (preferred), as well as bank money orders.
Cancellations
Upon 90 days written notice, we will refund the Security Deposit net of a $50 administration fee. If less than 90 days written notice, the entire security deposit will be forfeited. If less than 60 days written notice is received, the entire rent and excise tax will be forfeited unless we are able to re-rent the property.
Extended Stay Reservations
For reservations of three (3) weeks and longer, 20% of the rental fee will be required as a Security Deposit. The Security Deposit amount over $300 will be credited towards the rental fee at the time it becomes due. The remaining $300 will be fully refundable within 30-45 days of departure, provided the Security Deposit provisions are met.
Check-in/Check-out
Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. HST (Hawaii Standard Time).
Check-out is at 10:00 a.m. HST
We will be happy to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs, if possible. Please let us know at least seven (7) days in advance if you would like an early check-in or late check-out and we will advise you if this is possible based on other renters arriving or departing the property.

Why the Owner Chose Makahuena
Our first trip to Kaua'i was on our honeymoon, where we stayed up at the Lihu'e Marriott, but were given a recommendation to go to dinner at the TidePools restaurant at the Hyatt Hotel down in Poipu. After repeated visits over the next several years, we decided that instead of just visitors, that we wanted to become owners of a small piece of this wonderful place.
Being from Seattle, we already get our share of rain, so we knew we wanted to be on the sunny south shore, and with the ability to see both the sunrise AND sunset from the same bench, we knew the Makahuena complex (which means "calming breeze" in Hawaiian) was the place for us.
The Unique Benefits at this Condominium
We "named" our property "Poipu Retreat" because that's what we wanted this place to be for us and for our guests--a place to get away from the pressures and obligations of our everyday lives. So we decorated and designed the place to be just that, but also to reflect our style--modern but comfortable, and stocked with all the things we always wish we'd brought in our past trips--from yoga mats and DVD's, to boogey boards and golf clubs, to tennis raquets and board games, we always come back home refreshed and ready to resume everyday life!
