Livingston Peak Tree Top cabin is located in an area called Above Paradise, 9 miles outside Livingston, Montana. The cabin has 80 plus acres of private land that is prime for exploring and locating abandoned homesteaders' homes, abandoned hunter cabins from the '30s and there are a multitude of walking paths that wind throughout the private lands surrounding the home. No fences in this area! A major trail head in the Gallatin National Forest is a 10 minute walk from the front door of the home and the trail leads directly up Livingston Peak- for those hardy enough to take the challenge - a 5 hour trek. But, the reward of a hike is a view of 4 mountain ranges and a bird's eye view of Paradise Valley that leads to the gates of Yellowstone Park.
The cabin was designed by an award winning architect to capture the wildlife views and he has suspended the deck and it cantilevers onto the Aspen bowl below the cabin. Who could ask for more?
Each level of the home is timber and beam construction. There is a spiral staircase to a loft and media room that is located on the 3rd level. The washer, dryer and storage are on the first level. The main living room, dining room and kitchen, bath and 2 bedrooms are on the second level. The top level has the observation deck, hot tub, outdoor fireplace and two twin beds.
Native rocks, wildflowers, lodge pole pines and native grasses surround the home.
90 minutes to Yellowstone National Park and 7 miles to the Yellowstone River
30 minutes to horseback riding and guided fly fishing trips
23 miles to Bozeman

My husband and I stayed here early in June this year. First of all, these pictures do not do the cabin justice. The cabin and the views are stunning. Absolutely stunning. Standing in the living room and looking through the walls of windows out into the mountains, valley, pastures and groves was mesmerizing. We just stood there in disbelief at how beautiful everything was. It is so secluded and away from any kind of road or town noise. Perfect peace and quiet. The road up to the cabin is a long one but you'll love every minute of it. So many beautiful sites to see, everytime you drive it you see something different. At the cabin we were visited by free range horses (the older gelding is sooo sweet), deer, moose, antelope and such a variety of birds. We found everything we needed in the kitchen to make our meals and enjoyed them on the different decks. We had no issues with any flying or biting insects at all. We also had a full moon the week we were there so we were able to enjoy the hot tub watching the moon rise over the mountains. It lit up the entire view. The cabin is so well cared for and spotless. The beds are very comfy and we even enjoyed a couple of naps on the hammock. The woodstove in the living room was perfect to take the chill out of the evening air, and the wood fireplace on the deck was nice to enjoy dinner by. Like others have said, the Rib and Chop House is very good but honestly, you can't beat dinner at the cabin. We travel alot and really enjoy finding special places. This cabin ranks as one of the best ever, if not the best. It was perfect for us. Secluded wilderness with incredible views, wildlife, peace and quiet, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Only once in a blue moon are you offered such a beautiful spot! I can't say enough!! We were in heaven!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We had such a wonderful time here on our honeymoon!!! It was the perfect place to get away after being so busy planning our wedding. We just needed to relax and get away. I think I could fill up the book with all of the fun things we did and all the neat things we saw. Adam and I decided to hike up to Livingston Peak. Coming back down was quite a challenge, but the views from the top were worth the climb. Humbling! Sure did enjoy splashing the mountain spring water on my face. What a place!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We absolutely love your cabin. We saw a lot of wildlife along the road and around your home. We saw elk, deer, antelopes, wild horses and a cow moose with her calf. We loved the view out of the windows in the living room. In fact, when we get home I'm going to have MT. Livingston laminated into table place mats. We can be reminded daily how blessed we were to see God's finger painting.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is an amazing property with spectacular mountain views. Our family enjoyed every minute we were here and would love to make a return trip. The cabin is even more amazing in person. There is a large porch on the front of the cabin that provides great views of Livingston Peak. Which we did hike. That is a great climb! The back of the home also has a deck with a hot-tub. Again, with mountain views. We thoroughly enjoyed this property. In the past 2 years, we have stayed in 7 VRBO homes while travelling - this home remains our favorite. I should also note that we saw lots of wildlife while staying in the cabin - deer, elk, bears and too many bird varieties to list! The views of the stars at night is an incredible sight as well. One night while driving back to the cabin, we got to see the moon come out over the moutains. I will never forget that. This is such a great place! I would highly recommend staying here! Hopefully our family will be able to make a return trip to the great state of MT and to this amazing property. Just writing this review makes me wish I were there now.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

My family stayed here in July 2011 and loved it. Very comfortable, well furnished and the views are spectacular! We saw many deer at sunset while relaxing in the hot tub on the upper deck. We also saw a large moose twice on our way in and out. Birds are plentiful as well... fun to try and identify! The house itself is a work of art - the layout and construction are simply beautiful. Highly recommend! One caveat: the trip up to the house off of the main road is a 35 minute bumpy, winding adventure! You will want to get your supplies before you check in and we didn't travel in or out after dark. It's well worth it though.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Chip, Thanks so much for the glowing review. Reviews like yours really helps keep the cabin booked. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks again, Deb

About the owner: We wanted to create a get-away cabin that would give us a sense of living in the tree tops of the forest. The 'glass walls' in the main room of the cabin allow us (and our guests) to connect with nature in a way that is hard to describe. The birding, the wildlife, the starscapes... We go there to relax and shift from a busy, busy world to a slower paced life. It works!
Why the Owner Chose Livingston:
We built Livingston Peak cabin in '97 as a romantic getaway. Later we realized that it was a great retreat for the whole family: hiking the adjoining USFS public lands, 'scaling' livingston peak (8900 ft), wildlife sightings, s'mores at the outdoor fireplace, hot tubbing and capturing great views of the sky, moon and many, many shooting stars.
In 2009 we agressively remodeled the exterior of the home. We added new stone steps up to the observation platform on the third level, we built a new steel cable deck that wraps around the front of the cabin. We planted more native grasses and wildflowers, too. We added all new furniture in the living room in 2012. So, the 2012 vacation season should be the best yet!
We truly appreciate getting 'back in touch' with nature when we visit our cabin.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy the serenity and peace that comes from a stay at the home. We also appreciate the wildlife viewing in the mountains.
