Livingston Peak Tree Top cabin is located in an area called Above Paradise, 9 miles outside Livingston, Montana. The cabin has 80 plus acres of private land that is prime for exploring and locating abandoned homesteaders' homes, abandoned hunter cabins from the '30s and there are a multitude of walking paths that wind throughout the private lands surrounding the home. No fences in this area! A major trail head in the Gallatin National Forest is a 10 minute walk from the front door of the home and the trail leads directly up Livingston Peak- for those hardy enough to take the challenge - a 5 hour trek. But, the reward of a hike is a view of 4 mountain ranges and a bird's eye view of Paradise Valley that leads to the gates of Yellowstone Park.
The cabin was designed by an award winning architect to capture the wildlife views and has a suspended deck that cantilevers onto an Aspen bowl. Who could ask for more?
The 3 level home is timber and beam construction, with a spiral staircase to a loft and media room. The washer, dryer and storage are on the first level. The main living room, dining room and kitchen, bath and 2 bedrooms are on the second level. The top level has the observation deck, hot tub, outdoor fireplace and two twin beds.
Native rocks, wildflowers, lodge pole pines and native grasses surround the home.

Romantic Getaway - Livingston Peak Tree Top Home
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Livingston
We built Livingston Peak cabin in '97 as a romantic getaway. Later we realized that it was a great retreat for the whole family: hiking the adjoining USFS public lands, "scaling" livingston peak (8900 ft), wildlife sightings, s'mores at the outdoor fireplace, hot tubbing and capturing great views of the sky, moon and many, many shooting stars.
In 2009 we agressively remodeled the exterior of the home. We added new stone steps up to the observation platform on the third level, we built a new steel cable deck that wraps around the front of the cabin. We planted more native grasses and wildflowers, too. 2010 vacation season should be the best yet!
We truly appreciate getting "back in touch" with nature when we visit our cabin.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We enjoy the serenity and peace that comes from a stay at the home. We also appreciate the wildlife viewing in the mountains.
Road to Yellowstone National Park, in Paradise Valley, runs along the Yellowstone River Only 45 minute drive to entryway of Yellowstone National Park
Trail head is located in the Gallatin National Forest (which is connected to Yellowstone National Park.
Owner's Map of Livingston
We wanted to create a get-away cabin that would give us a sense of living in the tree tops of the forest. The "glass walls" in the main room of the cabin allow us (and our guests) to connect with nature in a way that is hard to describe. The birding, the wildlife, the starscapes... We go there to relax and shift from a busy, busy world to a slower paced life. It works!

This is an amazing property with spectacular mountain views. Our family enjoyed every minute we were here and would love to make a return trip. The cabin is even more amazing in person. There is a large porch on the front of the cabin that provides great views of Livingston Peak. Which we did hike. That is a great climb! The back of the home also has a deck with a hot-tub. Again, with mountain views. We thoroughly enjoyed this property. In the past 2 years, we have stayed in 7 VRBO homes while travelling - this home remains our favorite. I should also note that we saw lots of wildlife while staying in the cabin - deer, elk, bears and too many bird varieties to list! The views of the stars at night is an incredible sight as well. One night while driving back to the cabin, we got to see the moon come out over the moutains. I will never forget that. This is such a great place! I would highly recommend staying here! Hopefully our family will be able to make a return trip to the great state of MT and to this amazing property. Just writing this review makes me wish I were there now.

My family stayed here in July 2011 and loved it. Very comfortable, well furnished and the views are spectacular! We saw many deer at sunset while relaxing in the hot tub on the upper deck. We also saw a large moose twice on our way in and out. Birds are plentiful as well... fun to try and identify! The house itself is a work of art - the layout and construction are simply beautiful. Highly recommend! One caveat: the trip up to the house off of the main road is a 35 minute bumpy, winding adventure! You will want to get your supplies before you check in and we didn't travel in or out after dark. It's well worth it though.
Owner response:Chip, Thanks so much for the glowing review. Reviews like yours really helps keep the cabin booked. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks again, Deb
