Exquisite cottage compound on Martha's Vineyard’s exclusive E. Chop Dr. directly on Crystal Lake and across from the ocean. For YouTube video: 'Tour of the Doll House' - please ask us. The sun rises over E. Chop Light and sets over W. Chop from a yard perfect for entertaining. Less than 2 miles from Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven restaurants, shopping, beaches & ferries. Fully appointed and totally remodeled eat-in kitchen with lovely lake views. Sunny living room with summer breezes and views of the ferries and sailboats on Vineyard Haven harbor. Living room with island charm, beach stone fireplace and exposed beams. Light and sunny master bedroom looks out onto the lake, as does the eat-in kitchen. The wrap-around porch has a fairly private sleeping area with sofa bed with views of the ocean. Charming guest house has two bedsrooms, a full bath and outdoor, mahogany shower with window with lake view. The little 'boat house' with 360-degree water views has been converted to a delightful room for romantic meals or for quitet writing. Owner uses the property a lot.

History of the Dollhouse - Part I: It turns out that 312 East Chop Drive is one of the more widely known homes on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s traditionally been called the “Dollhouse” or the “Tom Thumb House.” (Don't worry - it's a fully sized house - I'm 6' and don't remotely have a problem!) It’s actually quite famous. The story is that Sarah and Lucy Adams, two little people who were sisters and had a home in Oak Bluffs and Chilmark, lived here. They were in the Barnum and Bailey circus with Tom Thumb.
While they did not actually live at 312 East Chop Drive, the story is widely believed because tour buses used to stop outside the house and tell the passengers that it was so. Many people on the island believe the story. In fact, from what I’ve been able to learn, the people who actually lived there (it was in the same family for almost a century), used to get down on their knees on the outside porch and wave at the buses as if they were little people.

Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I'm Executive Director of the performance-arts nonprofit Passim in Harvard Square, which is a successor to the old Club 47, where Joan Baez and Bob Dylan got their start in the '60s. My educational background is in law and psychology and I was on the Harvard Faculty in psychology with a long career as a management consultant doing team-building, leadership development, competency modeling, and executive coaching. I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts and have three grown children.
Why the Owner Chose East Chop:
My girl friend and I found this property in 2012 and instantly fell in love with it. When you're in the backyard, you have amazing privacy and the feeling of being in the country, although you're less than two miles from the center of Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. The drive to and from the Doll House is one of the prettiest on the island and it's one of the best walking areas, as well. The house exudes charm and is a true island home.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Privacy, charm, convenience to two of the major towns on the Vineyard, great sunrises over Telegraph Hill and sunsets over West Chop; home is completely updated. Great water views, both of the lake and the ocean.
