Wonderful farmhouse and barn nestled in the New York Berkshires, perfect for a couple wanting to escape, or a family wanting to gather!

Built in 1818 and originally known as the Pixley-Foster General Store, our farmhouse has known only four owners in almost 200 years. Quirky and beautiful, it's as quiet as you want it, and as fun as you make it. When our family isn't there, we'd love yours to be. Just over 2 hours from New York City and Boston, with easy access by Amtrak and Metro North trains. 20 minutes to high-end restaurants and shopping in either Hudson, NY or Great Barrington, MA. Rural even in this age, you can live the pastoral life and still be close to Tanglewood, art house movies and sushi!

The house is a product of every era - the downstairs has been largely restored to its early-19th century rugged beauty, while the upstairs still maintains the charm of its past as a bed & breakfast from the 1950s. We've mixed old and new - a 60" satellite TV is projected on a 1920s plaster and lath wall, WiFi Internet wafts through the colonial wideboard pine floors, the kitchen boasts a new 6-burner Viking stove, but you eat breakfast on a formica kitchen table from the '40s.

The master bedroom was once the carriage house, with the original horse-feeding windows now converted to triple-paned glass. Weather permitting, you might be spending most of your time in the barn: two floors, with the upstairs hosting an old basketball court, perfect for celebrations or intimate dinners overlooking the Berkshires. Downstairs is a kid's delight, with a pool table, ping pong, foosball, darts and a stereo.

Pixley Knob Hill Farm can be a quiet setting for a couple, a summer getaway for a family (especially with a new baby), or a celebration for a crew who wants to fill every bed and futon. We have 21 protected acres, including a hill giving 360-degree views of Columbia County: the Berkshires, the Taconic Valley, even a little slice of the Catskills. Milk cows wander just outside the kitchen window. Catamount Ski Resort is visible from the living room couch. Summer, spring, winter or fall, it has been a great place to gather for 190 years!
