A short stroll brings you to a private beach (for quiet) or a town beach (for company and special events). You are a mile from the Monterey Store.
You’re 15 minutes from the restaurants, galleries, shops, concerts and theater of Great Barrington (rated one of “the coolest small towns in the U.S.A” by Budget Travel magazine).
You are also close to Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, Shakespeare & Company, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Edith Wharton’s home and all other cultural attractions, as well as premier hiking/outdoor spots such as the Appalachian Trail and Beartown State Forest, and ski areas including Butternut, Otis Ridge and Catamount.
Our house is located on a quiet, easily accessible private road. It has a king bed in the ground-floor master bedroom, a queen sofa bed in a den that can be closed off, and two bedrooms upstairs with two twin beds in each. The cabin was absolutely great. Exactly as pictured, location is right next to a lake and a short drive to a nature park with trails for hiking. Cabin was fully equipped with cooking stuff, dvds, extra blankets, etc. It was very clean, and there were detailed instructions on what to do and a lovely book of local attractions and restaurants inside the house, so it made the process of renting very easy. Will definitely come back at some point!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The location is lovely and the fall colors were great. The house is very well equipped and conducive to a comfortable stay. The only issue is that there is not a good heating source for the bedrooms, so it can be cold. Perhaps we did not know how to use the system. I would recommend this place in warmer times.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Why the Owner Chose Monterey:
We are a family of musicians and hikers. The Berkshires offers something for everyone, and a lot of great restaurants. Some of our favorites in Great Barrington are Cafe Adam, Allium, Castle Street Cafe, Gypsy Joynt, Aegean Breeze, Koi, Baba Louie and the Great Barrington Bagel Company.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We are close to neighbors, stores and cultural activities, but the way the house is situated -- on a rise surrounded by woods and wetlands -- makes it seem like a real retreat. It's the best of many worlds, in our view.
