I love using VRBO because we've never had a bad experience until this rental. The pictures are deceiving in that the rental has not been updated since being bought. The carpet is filthy, walls dirty, simply unacceptable. The bathroom wasn't clean and there were no cleaning supplies. We had to buy our own cleaning supplies and our own toilet paper as we were left with only a half a roll. Nothing in the bedroom had been dusted in years, which aggrevated my allergies. We actually left it cleaner than we found it. Very disappointing.
Owner response:I feel like I must address the comments made by this guest and take exception to those remarks. The photographs on the website are an accurate and recent depiction of the property and I would invite anyone to visit the home and see for themselves. The home as been extensively remodeled and I would highly recommend the builder and provide his contact information to anyone contemplating a visit. The allegation that the carpets were dirty is totally unfounded. The carpets had been professionally cleaned recently (July 1, 2011) and are vacuumed and spot cleaned after each guest as necessary. Everything is cleaned after every guest and we typically have 8-10 rolls of toilet tissue available on site. To state that the property has not been dusted in years is ludicrous on it's face and I repeat, again, that it is cleaned after every guest visit. I have contacted the two most recent guests before this party arrived, and the one immediately after their departure. None of the three had anything other than glowing remarks. I would encourage anyone to read the other 9 reviews on the site before giving any credit to this one. Additionally, I put out a critique sheet for every single guest and I can probably produce at least 100 positive reviews in addition to those on this site. Most disturbing and puzzling is why, if this guest was so disappointed, did they wait three and a half months to send in a review instead of contacting me? In which case I would have been more than happy to address any issues or grant them a refund.

It is clear that the owner of the "Island Honeymoon Getaway" has taken great pains to make his retreat an exceptional value. After booking this property for the first time last January (for my husband's birthday) we decided to come back again this year (January 2011) as nothing else seemed like it could possibly match up for the price. The sunsets are really outstanding and the owner goes out of his way to accommodate any special requests. Two Thumbs Up!

All we can say is... Wow! We were already familiar with Lake Norman, but feel like we have found paradise! This cozy retreat is truly a bit of heaven. We hope to make this a regular destination. We needed some R&R and felt like we got it at Brent's Getaway. Can't thank you enough!

We enjoyed our stay here so much we plan on coming back. It felt like being at home with the exception of the beautiful area, sunsets, lake, and the house itself. There is so much to do in the area if you wanted or it was nice and peaceful to relax on the lake. I recommend you stay here after the great experience we had. We don't ever want to stay in another motel/hotel again after staying here for a week!

We had an absolute ball ! The condo was perfect and beautiful, but the backyard was breathtakingly beautiful. I haven't enjoyed many sunsets as wonderful as the ones we saw here. The trees, the perfect lawn and your good-natured acceptance of us all meant the world to us. Once I met you I totally relaxed. You made us all feel so welcomed. Thanks for a perfect weekend ! Kathy and I were married here in August 2008 and we have looked forward to returning to Kiser Island. The 4th was wonderful here - fireworks on the water and great food and good times at The Landing! It was so romantic and relaxing swimming off the dock and laying in the sun. We'll be looking forward now to our next visit!

We love staying at the condo in this house! This is a beautiful property with an amazing view...sunset over Lake Norman is breath taking! We are in the area Mondays thru Thursdays and have stayed for several weeks, we are as comfortable there, as in our own home. We travel alot and usually stay in hotels. We are so spoiled staying in the condo, it will be hard to ever go back to the impersonal stay in a hotel. The location is great, quiet and the people on the island are very kind. WOW! It was absolutely the most relaxing vacation rental we have ever experienced - It is secluded in feel, but not far from all of the conveniences one could want. We found this Island Getaway about a week before leaving Central Florida for a weeks vacation in North Carolina. From the beauty of the setting sun on the evening we arrived to the cool of the morning on the deck when we woke up it was the perfect getaway. Nothing lacking inside either. We were able to stock the fridge with all of our favorites and enjoy relaxing evenings in the living room. Great place! A piece of paradise found!

What a hidden treasure! We spent a week relaxing with a 180 degree view of Lake Norman. The western facing balcony gave us a spectacular and different sunset every night or we would just go down to the owners boat dock with wine for a closer view. The owner provided true southern hospitality to our visit as well. The location is very central to local sites and day trips. We visited the Biltmore Estate, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Old Salem as well as renting a boat to enjoy the lake. This house rental is the perfect romantic getaway. "Two thumbs up!"
