We, Family of 4 rented the Paradise Cottage for 3 weeks in August. And we had a wonderful California vacation up in the Woodland Hills. We found everything as it was described. The cottage`s interior is very comfy, warm and has that old school California charm. Because of the California Summer weather we were able to spend most of the time on the deck or in the pool area. The grounds are wonderful too. conclusion: 5 stars for the Paradise cottage! We definitely plan to come back to visit "our" cottage again. The biggest value of a vacation is, when you keep the people you met in mind and miss them. We all miss Sunday, Lars, Ian and Jeremy and peanut, the dog. They are the best hosts you can imagine. Hopefully we are all able to celebrate Henriette `s birthday again beside the pool with Strawberry shortcake.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Beautiful Idyllic Cottage

We absolutely loved our stay at Sunday's Paradise Cottage. We arrived to a cottage exactly as it appears on this site, completed with fresh milk and eggs from Sunday's hens in the fridge. While it was a little chilly to spend a lot of time at the pool, we took long walks and challenging runs along Mulholland Drive and in the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy. No need to drive to these beautiful natural spots - they are within a few hundred yards! The location is idea for scouting all the Valley has to offer, getting to and from central Los Angeles as well as taking a nice Canyon Drive to Malibu and Santa Monica. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends and family!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great stay at the beautiful cottage. We choose this listing because of location. Two blocks from our granddaughters for a quick visit. Was more than we expected! Loved the huge deck for morning coffee and listening and watching all the birds. Our granddaughters loved Sunday's chickens. Thanks for the fresh eggs. Lisa & Jeff

Relaxing and Well-Situated Home-away-from-home

Travelling with kids, it is especially nice to have a pool to recover from the heat and stress of L.A. Being able to swim at night under the stars gave our kids the patience to allow their parents to do their thing over the day. Friendly hosts, great atmosphere. Less than half an hour from beaches, driving over the beautiful Topenga Canyon. Close to the West Valley area, a bit of a trek to get to the city, especially if traffic is bad, but that's L.A. With the sofa converted to a couch, the cottages were a little on the cramped side, but "Paradise" has a large patio, and "Serenity" a comfy eating space (plus patio, although that faces the street) to relax in. For us, though, most of the relaxing was done on the grounds and by the pool. One note about the pool, though: it is mostly deep, and kids can stand only in a very limited space. So perhaps not appropriate for non-swimmers (although swim rings, etc. are available), espeically as the pool is not fenced off.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Paradise in LA

You want to go to LA but you want to be at Lake Tahoe or some place surrouded by nature at the same time? Well, this is the place. Me and my family stayed here for a week and it was a "paradise" like they said the cottage is. The ambiance of the place gives you a feeling of being in the midst of a forest and the aroma of the vegetation around it was wonderful to wake up to in the morning and the quite sorrounding gave us a feeling of peace and serenity. We had a true home away from home experience. We will come back in a heartbeat in our next trip to LA.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really had a wonderful 2 weeks stay in Woodland Hills, Paradise Cottage. The cottage is cozy equipped with everything you need. Area was beautiful, quiet and peaceful and minutes away from the beach and shopping centers. And not to forget Sunday who is always ready to help. Thanks for everything.

We had a chance to stay in both properties on site for 3 months and enjoyed them each. Sunday and Lars were wonderful hosts They were never too busy to answer questions or help out. We miss their dog Peanuts visits! ( although if you don't care for dogs or are allergic I noticed she didn't bother the other tenant. She's pretty cool though to have around) It's very convienent to get to bustling Los Angeles places but sooo nice to come back to the quiet and peacefullness of the cottages. We saw fun wildlife including two red tail hawk babies being fed by the parents in our deck tree. At first we were worried about finding the place but once you get use to it you realize it's only a couple turns up the hill and only 7 minutes to Ventura. Thanks again!

We had such a lovely stay at the Cottage in the Hills! Such a wonderful hostess - answering the phone at all hours of the day (and night) for assistance! Supplied items we forgot without hesitation. Everything we needed to help make our vacation perfect!!!

This is a very well appointed, comfortable cottage. We spent a fun week with our grandson and loved all the activities on the property. Quiet, convenient, yet out of the way, location from LA traffic. We definitely would stay again.

We stayed in this cottage for 5 nights and had a fantastic time. This place is so quite but still not far away from the beach, shopping centres, Hollywood or the main highway.The hosts Sunday and Lars were extremly friendly and always open for any questions. On the other hand they always respected our privacy. We will defenitely visit this place again.Some words in German:Dieses Cottage ist von seiner Lage her ideal,um einerseits ruhige erholsame Urlaubstage zu genießen, jedoch andererseits in kurzer Entfernung zu vielen Attraktivitäten um LA herum zu sein. Insbesondere ist man in ca 20 Minuten am herrlichen Strand oder z.B. in den Universal Studios in Hollywood. Die Ferienwohnung ist toll eingerichtet und man kann den riesigen schönen Garten mit herrlichem Pool mitbenützen.Die Gastgeber Sunday und Lars sind äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit, jedoch auf keinen Fall aufdringlich. Von großem Vorteil für uns war auch die Tatsache, dass der Hausherr Lars als Deutscher einem viele Vorschläge und Tipps uns in unserer Muttersprache geben konnte, was für uns sehr hilfreich war. Ich und meine Familie würden, bzw. werden diese Ferienwohnung sicherlich nochmal wählen.

We (2 adults) fully enjoyed our 3 week stay at the Holiday home in the Woodland Hills. The accommodation met all and more of our needs. We needed a place with a full kitchen but with lovely surroundings. Would you expect to find this in LA and at a decent price in the summer months? Well this place had it. We arrived after a very long journey and as soon as we entered the door we felt so welcomed just by all of the provisions in the cottage, from hand cream to drinks (from coke to wine) with some morning cereal for breakfast. The cottage is very comfortable and cosy with modern air conditioning and cooking facilities (A proper oven and large fridge). It even had satellite TV. If you want to stay in a relaxed quiet environment, this is it. There is plenty of space to sit in the private communal garden out the back in the sun or the shade. This accommodation is well placed for getting to Hollywood, and also going up Topanga Canyon for a lovely route to the Pacific Coast highway, and also for driving through the beautiful mountains north of the Woodland Hills. Each unit also has its own barbecue and patio area. I have enjoyed staying in many different typed of places in the UK and USA but none have matched this one, which is why I am so keen to talk about it.

My wife and I stayed at the cottage for a week. The cottage is cozy and nicely decorated. Sunday and Lars are cordial hosts. It was nice to have all the amenities of home and a pleasant surprise to have a bottle of wine waiting for us after a long trip.

We had a very nice stay in the Cottage. I appreciated the water, juice and yogurt in the refrigerator which was very welcome as we had not figured out where to shop upon our arrival. Tea and coffee were provided too! It was a lovely drive, not far from the highway, up the hills to the Cottage, where it was quiet and yes, serene. I own a place in Breckenridge, CO (60835) so I appreciate the hospitality afforded to us. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage, it was very cute, cozy and comfortable, perfect for two adults and two small children. The bed was extremely comfortable. The location is up on the hill surrounded by beautiful homes and the area was very quiet and serene. The directions given were perfect. We traveled Topanga canyon to get to the beach which was a great drive. We found the 101 freeway very slow and congested on the weekends but weekday traffic was less crowded. Our days were very busy but it was nice to start and end the day in the cottage. Ventura Blvd was very close and in both directions had various grocery stores, restaurants and stores, it was also a great alternative route for the Hwy 101. This was our first vacation home rental and was a nice surprise. We would definitely consider a return visit next time in the Los Angeles area.

The cottage was fabulous. Sunday was a wonderful hostess; very friendly and helpful. The pool was terrific for swimming and looking. It is in a quiet neighborhood that was close to absolutely everything. The house was so beautiful we sometimes did not want to leave to see the sights! We will gladly come back next time we are in LA.

We had a wonderful time and the cottage is exactly as advertised. It was quite comfortable and Sunday and Lars were fabulous hosts. This is our third Los Angeles area rental and our favorite by far. The pool is great and the location of the vacation home worked very well for us. I'm certain we will return.

The cottage was absolutely perfect for us. The kids loved the pool, trampoline, game room and Peanut (the dog). The adults loved the peace and quiet. The location was close to everything we wanted to do. All four of us rate it an enthusiastic two thumbs up!

This is our 5th vacation rental and by far our favorite! Sunday and her family were very welcoming and helpful. They respected our privacy, yet were always just a phone call or knock on the door away if we had a question, wanted to borrow something, or needed assistance. The location is amazing. You can see across the entire valley to the mountains on the other side. Malibu and Santa Monica were only a 30 minute drive through scenic Topanga canyon. Downtown and Pasadena were also just a short drive down the freeway. And, since you're up on a hill and only about 5 miles from the ocean (as the bird flies), the climate was perfect. In terms of location, the neighborhood is also very friendly. On several occasions Sunday's neighbors greeted us while they were out on a walk as we were coming or going. Let's see-- what else. Our baby has asthma and we greatly appreciated Sunday's attentiveness to allergy issues. Also, the bed was extremely comfortable. We have a tempurpedic at home, but this was even more comfy. Overall, this was a great experience. It was a peaceful haven we could retreat to at the end of a series of busy days leading up to the wedding we were in town for. We'll also always remember this locale as the place where our son first swam in a swimming pool!
