This house was in the perfect location. Out the back door was a comfortably furnished lanai, a nice well kept grassy backyard, beautiful views/access to the ocean, and out the front door was the convenient little Last Chance market, and delicious Red Hot Mamas take-out. Just down the road past the house are lots of beaches including Tunnels and Ke'e beach (which are both great for snorkeling, lounging), as well as access to the Na Pali Coast via Kalalau trail which is just 3-1/2miles from the house where the road actually ends. Being at this end of the island means if you wake up fairly early, you may have privacy out on the water, at the beach, or hiking before visitors from other parts of the island load in (which they did, it was a busy time of the year while we were visiting). The house was an awesome place to spend the day; there was really no need to leave because it provided everything necessary for a relaxing day. There is a ton of comfy lawn furniture and beach towels, floaties, a raft, and Boogie boards and fins to float across the river to the private beach, there's a dinning table for six, nice showers, good ventilation and fans to keep the temp right, a nice updated kitchen to cook with the necessary utensils and appliances including a couple blenders so you can keep those fruit smoothies and cocktails flowing. Our group was three couples and we thought all of the bedrooms were great though I would like to mention that the third "master" (or two twins) is definitely smaller than the other two, it has a really nice bathroom but which is also significantly smaller, it doesn't have an ocean view out the bedroom, instead the window faces the road and the Last Chance market leaves their lights on at night so it can be bright coming through the window even with the blinds closed. But when you are spending all day spoiled with views of the ocean it shouldn't be too heartbreaking to be without the view while you're sleeping; just leave the bedroom door open and you will still hear the lull of the sea to put you to sleep. Great place, Iw ill definitely recommend it to others. Thanks!!

This was our 3rd different island to visit. What a wonderful place to stay, just what I was looking for. The view out the back porch was as good as the pictures. The home was clean and quiet, with plenty of room for 5 adults. Quiet even though right out the front door was the Last Chance Store and Hwy 56. However, the road ended just 3 miles away at Ke'e Beach so the traffic was not heavy even on Memorial Day weekend. The home is well stocked with dishes etc, and even a supply of beach chairs, mats, beach towels and rafts, not to mention a washer and dryer (pack light & wash). The owners were friendly and very helpful. Just down the road to the east (10 min scenic drive) was Hanalei, with a fantastic beach, and a bunch of small restaurants, small shops, grocery etc. Rent snorkle gear at Snorkel Depot in Hanalei. And don't miss Mai Tais, pizza and live music at the Tahiti Nui. The Post Card Cafe was beautifu with excellent food, but expensive, the fish market had excellent selection and the Kountry Kitchen in Kapaa had macadamia nut pancakes to die for. Two pieces of advice, and this is by no means criticism. This area is fairly remote, so don't go expecting to find a lot of night life or shopping. This is NOT a resort, so it is relaxed and quiet and a long way from almost everywhere else on the island (but the beaches), but you will have to make your own Pina Coloda here or drive into Hanalei.. This house has no airconditioning. I usually want it but the sea breeze and ceiling fans kept every thing very comfortable. But if you need airconditioning consider this. Last, a suggestion; the step from the deck to the river was long, and slippery, especially at low tide. I would suggest one last step or a platform closer to the water.

Opening the front door, we knew we had found paradise. Your home is just too beautiful for words. It was like winning the lotto! This was our 10th time to Hawaii, and we could not have spent it at a better place.

We truly enjoyed our time at your wonderful home. You seem to have thought about everything we would need. We have never stayed on the north side of the island before, and we were totally delighted by our experience here. Your home offered relaxation at its finest! Truly couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay!

My husband, I, and our two young daughters just had too short of a stay at this beautiful property. The house has been tastefully updated/renovated. It is quite spacious with each room having its own full bathroom. It was fully stocked with everything you could possibly want or need from beach umbrellas, floaties, boogies boards, board games, childrens' toys, highchairs, beach towels, etc., etc. The river is quite refreshing, especially after a long day at the beach. It was such a nice way to cool down and shed some sand! Our only surprise is that this property isn't truly on the ocean. There aren't any buildings between you and the ocean, but you can't walk out the door and onto the beach. You first must swim or kayak over the river. I estimate the width of the river to be about 50 yards and it's too deep to touch the bottom. That being said, you have unobstructed ocean views from all the rooms and since you can't drive to that beach, it was very private. If we had truly been on the sand, we would have had people walking in front of the place all day. So, although we were surprised and a little disappointed at first that the ocean access wasn't easier, we quickly came to appreciate the set-up. The backyard was fully fenced along the river which made for a fairly safe place for our toddler to play, supervised of course, but safer than if we were directly on the ocean or the river without a fence. We would definitely stay here again, especially when our infant daughter is old enough to go into the river on a floatie too. We put our toddler into her floaties and took her across to the beach and she loved it!

There are no words to describe what a perfect week we had on our first trip to Kauai. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere but here on the beautiful north shore. The house beat all of our expectations! It is beautiful, well-equipped, with amazing views. This place is a gem! We never thought any place could be more beautiful than Maui, but Kauai has won our hearts. We will be back!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with myself, my husband and two other couples. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about Kauai. The location of your home is GREAT. We visited the local towns for dinners and shopping. We enjoyed the snorkeling at all the beaches around us seeing sea turtles and a sea lion at a beach right down the street (Tunnels Beach). The hiking is fabulous right around your home. The home was perfect for the 3 couples and we all enjoyed the porch setting; having breakfast there in the mornings or playing cards in the evenings. Thank you once again for sharing your fabulous paradise with all of us. We all would LOVE to return to Kauai and enjoy your home once again.

A month after our stay, everyone in our party wishes we were still here. We've been coming to Kauai every year for some time now - always renting a home. Though we've never been dissapointed in any of our rentals, this home has been our favorite. The north shore is our preferred area and this house has a great location. You're close to several good beaches. Close to Princeville and Hanalei -but not to close. A huge plus for us. We like our privacy The house itself is well maintained. Better than average remodel when it was done. Nice floors, granite in kitchen, above average fixtures. Comfortable bedrooms (with great views). The two master suites were perfect for us and we loved the bathrooms. The kitchen was nice - we had almost every meal in. With the great views from the back lanai - why go out to eat? We spent 90% of our time in the backyard. We loved the fact that the beach in front of the house is rarely used - making the view even better. And the backyard is very private. The house is a great price for the amenities you get - I'd pay it for the view alone. There were five of us (two adult couples, and one single) and it was the perfect size for us. We'd definitely rent this property again and most likely will on our next visit.

This place is lovely!!! The listing description and pictures are very accurate. From the moment we stepped in the door, we knew it was something special. After a long day of travel, it was an amazing feeling knowing we were going to be staying here. From the spectacular views of the ocean, sunsets, rainbows, etc., to the beautiful furnishings, large lanai, well landscaped grounds, the place was ideal. I snorkeled with the turtles almost every day and slept with the sound of the ocean every night… not sure I will ever sleep as well again! The house was clean, comfortable and very convenient. I have traveled to many places using VRBO, but I can say without hesitation that this house is one of the nicest places—and best priced— I've ever been to so far. We rented the kayaks as other people suggested which was very nice. But next time, we will probably go without and use rafts to cross over… or swim. We really didn't use them all to much since there was so much exploring to do. The weather for the first 3 days was perfect— no rain. We enjoyed sunning on the deck, hiking the trail (which was a little grueling but definitely worth it) and exploring nearby. When it did rain, it gave us an opportunity to explore other beaches that were dry and sunny. And every night, we would come back "home" and enjoyed many happy hours on the lanai. At the house, there was an umbrella, beach blanket, mosquito repellent, snorkel gear, rafts and more that was very convenient. Having the market and Red Hot Mama's across the street was also a plus. Nelson and Victoria were very accommodating and provided the perfect vacation home for our family. Mahalo for letting us stay in your beautiful home… We will be back!

We stayed here once, will stay here again, and hope to make it a regular event. We even had friends stay here afterward. It is truly the perfect location if you are looking to get away from the tourist vibe. Forget restaurants. Cook yourself and watch the waves. It was just great.

We stayed at this property in late Sept. '09. It met or exceeded our expectations in every way. Very tastefully and thoughtfully laid out inside, ingeniously oriented to the water with plantings on either side so that, even though the house sits quite close to its neighbors, you are in a totally private setting. The "private beach is actually a broad sandbar which can be accessed by a short kayak paddle (we rented two single kayaks for $20 a day and kept them tied up at the dock all week) or, walk down the road past the two little bridges, and you can walk out to the sandbar. Yes, other people do use the beach but not often, and, as the river mouth separates you from the sandbar you won't feel they are walking across your "front lawn", (as one can with some oceanfront properties). The house is so well equipped with beach chairs, umbrellas and the like, even children's beach toys, that you will feel well supplied for any beach activity. We loved watching the waves at sunrise, right from our bed, and we enjoyed cooking and having dinner and drinks on the lanai each night; we joked that it had the best waterfront dining on the North shore, so why go out?! Kudos to the owners for creating such a lovely vacation rental. We hope to return.(a note about kayaking; the Wainiha river has two forks that are navigable for only a short distance, nonetheless we paddled out each morning -- except for the two that it rained -- as paddling around the little bay and upstream made the perfect start to the day. Saw Hawaiian coots, moorhens and a frigate bird, whom we christened Freddie, who appeared to live there, plus night herons and others passing through. I wouldn't swim in the river mouth, though; there were warnings about bacteria in the freshwater. the sandbar beach itself looked too rough for swimming but with Tunnels and Kee beaches just down the road, there are plenty of options if the seas are calm. (which they were, 60% of the time, when we were there in Sept.)

Owner response: The bacteria in the water was an isolated incident, and the condition no longer exists.
