Cobblestone Cottage is a charming 100 year old cabin lovingly restored and outfitted with modern conveniences and hot tub, located in an outdoor enthusiast's mountain paradise.
Anglers, Cyclists and Hikers find the object of their fancy within an hours drive or as close as out the front door. A short walk down Little Creek Rd. brings you to Cane River, a prized venue for fly fishing. This same short walk brings you to the intersection of 19W where the pink blaze arrow on the pavement still marks the renowned Burnsville Metric, a metric century bike ride that follows the rivers, hills and dales of Yancey and Mitchell Counties.
Country stores dot the route providing convenient venues for refreshments and respite, The South Toe River, another pristine river, is less than an hour's drive away.
Hikers too have a great adventures awaiting them. Mt Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi, is to the south an hour away. Mt Mitchell is part of the Black Mountain range that includes several peaks over 6,000 ft. Roan Mountain, known for the bald eagles, is less than an hour to the northeast. The Appalachian Trail crosses the Roan and meanders to within 5 miles of Cobblestone Cottage.
In addition to the ridge trails, there are waterfalls and swimming holes to be discovered. Garden enthusiasts can appreciate the diversity of plants growing wild in the Appalachians. The diversity is comparable in numbers to that of tropical rain forests.
If you are looking for an environment that is a little less physically exerting, Yancey County has more artists per capita than any other county in the United States. In the spring and again in the winter the local artists open their studios for self-guided tours through-out Yancey and Mitchell counties.
In August of each year Yancey County hosts the annual Crafts Fair with artisans and craftspeople from all over eastern United States. If you care for fine dining and music, Asheville is just an easy 40 minute drive away. At the end of your many adventures, return to Cobblestone Cottage for a rejuvenating evening.
Take advantage of the hot tub or relax on the porch and be serenade by bird song and the babbling of Little Creek.
