Great Vacation-Go now! (continued)

She offers breakfast and lunch - burgers and grilled chicken sandwhich. It was good. We took some food and bought groceries to do breakfast and some lunches on our own. We ordered pizza from Senor Pizza. It was good and they deliver to your condo. You can take the safari taxi back to Charlotte Amalie to shop for $2 - be sure to mention that you want the local rate back to Sapphire Beach. We had a great stay and we have family that are considering this property based on our experience. It is not a super fancy condo, but it everything you need and the views are amazing. It is definitely a fabulous beach. I forgot to mention the ferry dock is .5 miles in Red Hook and gives you easy access to so many other islands! You've waited long enough. Just go!

Amazing beach, beautiful views, lots of colorful fish, and easy access to Red Hook. This location has so much to offer. The description is accurate for all the amenities and conveniences. First off, Henry, the owner, is great to work with. We had to postpone our trip one whole year due to an accident in our family, and Henry worked with us with a "no worries" attitude! Sam, our driver and property manager, was a joy to get to know and was very helpful. The beach is beautiful. There is reef right off the shore with a variety of colorful fish and coral to see. There is turtle grass that is often inhabitated by a turtle family and a stingray family. The surf was a little rough the days we were snorkeling and I wasn't patient enough to find them! The views of the ocean, St. John, and Tortola are incredible. The marina is about 100 yards from the condo door making excursions a breeze. We chose the day trip with Breakaway. The trip included the Baths at Virgin Gorda, lunch and snorkeling off the coast of Tortola, and beach time on the island of Jost Van Dyke. The crew was super! On our snorkeling we saw a sea turtle, octopus, beautiful coral and fish. Back at the marina, we booked parasailing through the Dive shop. Wow! What a thrill - 450 feet up above the water - looking out over all the islands! Our best day was spent on the island of St. John. I'll share my secret because it seemed it was out already. You have got to go to Waterlemon Cay! This was my second visit and I was wowed both trips. You have to walk around the edge of the water about a mile. But there is fantastic snorkeling. Closer to the beach we swam with a sea turtle for 30 minutes or longer. Maho Bay was a wonderful surpise. We say stingray, large tarpon, large conch, starfish and yes we swam with turtles again! A day trip to St. John is a must. We did not rent a car and utilized the "safari" open air taxi and taxis. You have to climb to the top of the hill to catch the safari, but the cost is $1 to Red Hook. They only run sunup to sundown, so we would take a taxi home for $4 per person and they deliver you to your building. There were some great restaurants in Red Hook. We ate at Pesce (Italian), Molly Malones, a mexican food place above Molly's, and Fish Tails. The review that said pack food is right. Eating out is very pricey, and even buying groceries. The only eatery at the resort is a snack shack. (continued on next review.)

The view from the balcony is a little different from the photo shown. This room is actually a few more rooms to the right, so you don't have that roof in the way (seen in the center of the balcony photo), and get an even BETTER view! WOW - THE VIEWS - JUST INCREDIBLE! Just outside the building is a private, almost deserted, beach with LITERALLY crystal clear water - PERFECT for swimming and snorkeling! You can actually SEE the fish swimming in the rocks at about knee-deep in the water! The little kids nearby were really excited! Or, lay out at the two-level pool visible from the room! All of the Sapphire staff were helpful, and kept everything clean, safe and sound. Paula and Randall (two of the grounds security guards) were very helpful with island information and places to go! (Did you know there is a "Bridge to Nowhere" here too?) On weekends, David, another worker there, brings fresh coconuts for sale and shows off his machete-wielding skills as he cuts them into drinkable jars! (how cool is THAT?) Besides the beach at Sapphire, snorkeling at Coki Beach was also great! (it's located next to Coral World) It's very commercialized (unlike Sapphire), but you can purchase fish food there. The fish REALLY go crazy for it, and swarm - great for underwater photos! If you enjoy geocaching, there are some great spots on the island that will take you to special hideaways that the travel guides don't tell you about! You will want to rent a car, as it gives you more freedom to explore, and taxi fares can really add up fast! We ate at Cuzzin's in Charlotte Amalie - really great local food! By the way, we HIGHLY recommend bringing a suitcase FULL of food - sounds strange, but true! Eating out for EVERY meal is pricy (Wendy's has NO "dollar menu" here!) and even store-bought food is VERY EXPENSIVE - eg. milk is $6.99 a gallon vs $2.29 at home! (the ONLY thing that is cheap here is rum!) It's a good thing that this unit has a full kitchen w/ most of the things needed to prepare meals (stove/oven, fridge, microwave oven, coffee pot, dishes)! After a busy, fun-filled day and a home-cooked meal, you can use the blender to make tasty "island drinks", then watch the sun set on another PERFECT DAY in paradise! (wish we could post even a few of the photos we took!) Sadly, we weren't able to go to half of the places that Henry suggested - guess we'll just have to return! When's the next flight out? Can't wait to go back!

Though the condo is showing it's age, the large, heavy shuttered doors and view of the ocean proves you are in a tropical paradise. The reef just off the beach was the highlight of our trip....snorkeling was the best. If you don't mind taking a Vitran bus or cab to great restaurants in Red Hook or shopping in Charlotte Amalie, this is the place to spend every one of your beach vacations. We had a marvelous celebration of our 30 year anniversary. Thanks again to Sam for his wonderful hospitality.
