    • Oh, my. We booked this property after finding it on the Internet not knowing exactly what we were driving into. What we found was pure bliss. Everything you need is already here--condiments in the fridge, beach towels, toilet paper, spices, all the cooking gear you need, and extra pillows and blankets. The access to the beach is fabulous--most of the time we were the only people on the beach. The downstairs shower is perfectly placed and keeps sand out of the house. The family room is open to the kitchen and great for our group of 6 (5 kids and 3 adults). The outdoor deck is huge and perfect to watch sunrises and sunsets. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Lovely home. Thanks, Norma. You have a special house in a special part of Texas. You won't find hordes of tourists here. It's very private. Nancy Nichols and family August 12-17, 2008

    • My husband and I loved the 5 days we spent here in late March. You can tell that this house was custom-designed by someone with a good eye and high standards; it is a significant cut above virtually all of the vacation homes I've rented. The view, and the close-by sound of the surf, were exactly what we were looking for. Matagorda itself was a total surprise; we were amazed to find a wide sandy beach, with private houses, that was NOT overbuilt -- to say the least. There are NO high-rise or mid-rise condos, and a fairly small number of houses on the beach itself. (Most of the Matagorda houses are on the river road, facing sort of a bay.) Although we relished the peace and quiet -- arriving on a Monday between Spring Break and the summer season -- guests should know that the best fish market was never open while we were there, and the number of restaurants was about what you'd expect for a very lightly populated peninsula. So, unless you're fairly confident that you'll be able to catch your own dinner -- stock up at the grocery store in Bay City, about 30 minutes away, if you go in the "off season." (Suggestion: take a good ice chest with you to transport groceries, esp. in summer). Norma's kitchen is truly well-equipped, although you might want to bring your own small toaster-oven with you if you depend on it as much as we do. Matagorda, and Norma's home, are not for people looking for an "action-filled" beach with walk-up bars and chain restaurants. But if you want something that is truly unusual, perhaps unique, along the Texas Gulf Coast -- this is the place.

    • This place is amazing. You are steps away from the beach and the house is fantastic. A huge deck overlooks the dunes and beach, providing views of sunrises and sunsets. We were there during a full moon which was incredible. The house is comfortable and well-maintained, and Norma is a great host. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity.

    • Hey Everybody, The best way to describe our vacation at this cozy Matagorda beach house is magical and fun and relaxing. The interior is bright, clean and very efficient. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you need to cook and serve a great meal with a convienent gas barbeque off the kichen too. All towels provided ,bathrooms clean with lots of character and washer and dryer available for the extra wet kitchen towels or beach towels. The beds and pillows very comfortable and did we need those as the place is so relaxing with a gorgeous long and wide deck with a beautiful veiw day and night. The salt water seems to melt away all stress and toxins from your body so be ready for at least one nap a day (even for kids!) Each room in the beach house has a great view of the water. We went in middle of july and this year we had to fight to keep our own blood from the mosquitos on the lower deck and the small run threw some grass to get to the sand so bring your bugspray if you are thin skinned. We affectionately termed this area " the guantlet" and it became fun to get through together racing to the beach. We are all already planning a time to return as this place has everything we liked in a place to relax and hang out with each other. The boys brought their PS3 and that helped when the storms quickly came and went.I highly reccommend bringing some kind of inner tube as they were safest for kids as the waves can get strong and a matress for adults is great too.We all wore water soes as then you don't even have to think about what is under footlike the odd shell in the sand or water that can hurt. All of us had one of the most memorable magical time there.I want to thank the owners for providing this little slice of heaven for all to enjoy!( The tellescope was a bit hit!)

    • This is a beautiful well-kept home in a lovely and quiet part of Matagorda Island. Norma was so helpful and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, which was so appreciated. What a truly special place to visit and we will definitely be spending more time there! Thank you for everything Norma!!
