> Close to the ocean <
This ca. 1900 cottage, beautifully situated on a pond ringed by wildflowers is only 3/10 of a mile to the working docks at West Point. There, kayaks and other hand carried boats may be launched from a small public beach that is also open to wading, swimming, exploring, and the Atlantic Ocean. The pond itself, between ocean on one side and a tidal marsh on the other, is home to turtles, frogs and dragonflies and an attraction for birds and butterflies.
A full kitchen with large dining room, a very cozy den well stocked with books and board games, a sun porch and a living room with a piano and plenty of comfortable seating make up the downstairs. Three upstairs bedrooms sleep six comfortably. Monitor heat is available for chilly nights or enjoy a warm-up by the gas stove. A gas grill is available for picnics on the lawn, or sit around the firebowl for stories under the stars.
Nearby is Totman Cove, Phippsburg's lovely private beach for residents, taxpayers and their guests (that means you!). Just a couple miles away is the Sebasco Harbor Resort with a pub, a restaurant and a seaside golf course open to the public. Hike the nearby nature trails at Morse Mountain, spend a day at Popham State Park, or explore the civil-war era Fort Popham.
The charming city of Bath (only twenty minutes from the cottage) should not be missed with its rich shipbuilding tradition, and a thriving Main Street (called Front Street) with a number of diverse boutiques, antique shops and some of our favorite coffee houses and restaurants. Enjoy Bath's history and culture by visiting the Maine Maritime Museum and the Patton Free Library. Take in a concert, workshop or exhibit at the Chocolate Church Arts Center.
Head north for an easy day trip to Wiscasset (the "Prettiest Village in Maine") Boothbay Harbor or Rockland. Or head south to Freeport (home of L.L. Bean and numerous outlet stores) or to the historic Old Port in Portland. Or stay close to home for some of the best seafood around.
We enjoy the "away from it all" feeling our cottage gives us and we think you will too! |
