Location: Sapphire Beach, East End, USVI - St. Thomas, Caribbean (9 miles from the airport and 1 mile from Red Hook)
Accommodations: Condominium, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
Why Sapphire Beach? Because it's the best beach, of course. We've been traveling to St. Thomas for many years. When it was time to buy there was simply no question where we wanted to be. Sapphire offers a white sand beach, great snorkeling, convenience to Red Hook with it's great restraunts and ferries to neighboring islands. Come stay, you'll want to return again and again just as we did.
Our unit has been completely remodeled in October 2008. Updates include a completely new bathroom with expanded storage, a new kitchen with a convection microwave and lots of cabinets, pocket doors between the bedroom and living area and new floor tile.
The second largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas spans 32 square miles of tropical paradise and lies off the coast of Puerto Rico. The island embraces the Atlantic Ocean on the North side and the Caribbean Sea on the South. It is located in the northwest corner of the US Virgin Islands.
Its mountainous peaks rise to 1,550 feet above sea level, providing breathtaking views from almost every direction. Drake's Seat is particularly famous for its vistas. The capital of the Virgin Islands is Charlotte Amalie, a charming and gracious town named in 1692 for the Queen of Denmark.
A natural deep water port, it has one of the most stunning harbors in the world. It is also known as a mecca for duty-free shopping in the Caribbean Islands. Green hills dotted with homes rise above it, and to the North, away from town, spans a lush tropical terrain graced by the picturesque beauty of Magens Bay Beach, named 'one of the three most beautiful beaches in the world' by National Geographic.
St. Thomas can be a quiet retreat or a destination for visitors who enjoy the bustle of duty-free Shopping, fine dining, and exciting nightlife. Sports and activities are abundant on St. Thomas. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the George and Tom Fazio-designed Mahogany Run course.
St. Thomas is also well known for its world-class yachting and sport fishing. A number of dive shops serve the island (Dive In is on site)and provide a safe, comfortable scuba experience for beginners or experienced divers. Advanced certification courses are available here, as well as complete instruction for beginners.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
This is us, Dennis & Marsha, at Funghi's restaurant. There is a free shuttle provided, recommended particularly if you plan to try one or more of their famous "Root" shots. We live in the midwest most of the year, dreaming of the time we'll get to spend at our island retreat. When we can't be there we love sharing our piece of paradise with wonderful guests; it also helps pay the expenses of owning property in the islands (not cheap). Last fall we remodeled to make our condo into a home. Our repeat renters have been favorably impressed.
Why the Owner Chose Sapphire Beach
Our first two trips to St. Thomas were one day visits off a cruise. After the second trip we decided we needed a longer stay on this wonderful island. For the next few years we went down for a week at a time. We fell in love with Sapphire Beach because of the white sand and great snorkeling. When we began to look for a place to buy we couldn't get interested in any other location on the island. For us only Sapphire would do.
The Unique Benefits of this Condominium
Sapphire Beach offers a wonderful white sand beach, fabulous views and great snorkeling in one location. There is nowhere else on the island to compare. We travel a lot and we know the little touches that make for a great vacation. Our guests are met at the airport by our property manager, Sam Charles, instead of being herded into vans with 12 strangers to be taken to Sapphire. Sam will stop at a grocery store so you can provision for your stay. On arrival, we help you unwind with a welcome basket containing a small bottle of rum and two cokes. We provide nice fluffy towels for the bath and beach. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, dinnerware and an assortment of spices. You'll also enjoy free beach rentals from the dive shop on site. When your (all too short) stay comes to an end, Sam will take you to the airport for your return flight.

Wonderful family vacation Date Submitted: February 28, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009 Sapphire Beach is beautiful, and the condo is great. Since many of the other reviewers were couples, I'll provide the "traveling with kids" perspective. We have two children, 8 and 10. The air mattress in the living room was fine for them--they loved to lie there and watch the ocean! The condo is just as described and shown in the pictures--very clean, and everything in working order. The view is EXACTLY as described, and can't be beat! Marsha provides nice extras like DVD's, a cooler with ice packs for picnics, and of course the use of snorkeling equipment and beach chairs from the local dive shop is a great benefit. If you like to snorkel, the rental costs could really add up otherwise. Speaking of snorkeling--Sapphire is a very good place for this, whether you are a beginner or experienced. We saw tons of fish, a green turtle--even a little moray eel! For those who prefer the pool, it is lovely. There's a separate shallow pool (3 feet) for little ones, and then a five foot pool, right on the ocean. I would recommend renting a car for at least part of your stay, Budget rental is right on the premises. Red Hook is walking distance (not even a mile) but the roads are narrow and not really walker-friendly. The other option is taxis, which are expensive. The best thing about Sapphire is that it is very quiet--no nearby bars or restaurants going at all hours. You can easily get to Red Hook if that's what you like, but if you want to fall asleep listening to the waves on the shore and the wind in the palms . . . this is your place! Marsha, We had a very nice vacation. The weather was great and our stay was comfortable. Sapphire Beach is beautiful and having lounge chairs available was great. Sam was very hospitable picking us up from the airport as well as giving us the opportunity to buy some groceries before taking us to the resort even though it was becoming late evening when we arrived. Thank you for sharing your condo.

Hi Marsha! First of all Sam was wonderful! He waited for us even though our plane was late and car rental took forever, and then escorted us all the way back to the condo! I don't think we would have found it if we hadn't followed him. I was expecting maid service on the 4th day, so it was a pleasant suprise to have fresh towels daily. We had free chair and snorkel use for the week. Thank you! I think this would be a good thing to boast in your online ad. I think some guests must have had to pay for chairs etc. We liked the place enough to pick up a realty magazine to see how much owning a condo a Saphire would cost, that probably says a lot. Lastly we have a restaurant suggestion, Las Braisas (sp) in Frechtown. We had our best meal and drink at this little place. It's only been open for few months, but the food is amazing! Thank you,

Marsha, We had a great time in St. Thomas. It was so beautiful! The wedding on Tortolla was prefect. The only problem I had was not being smart enough to pack a carry-on bag with a change of clothes and a swimsuit. Our luggage was a day behind us, and not being able to swim that first day was torture. We are really hoping we get to go back soon. Thank you for letting us rent your condo!
