My husband and I stayed at this condo for almost 2 weeks. The condo is clean and well-maintained with plenty of hot water and an efficient kitchen. The focus of the condo is the beautiful ocean view. The bike/walking path right outside the door was great for exercise-rented bikes right down the road and enjoyed several rides. Though we enjoyed many beaches on Kauai, there is a great swimming beach right in front of the condo. We are hoping to return to Kauai-either in the fall or next spring and definitely will plan on staying at this great, central location when we do.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The owners have described their condo perfectly including the pictures. We were thrill with our stay. The Condo was cleaned and Pono Kai is very well-maintained. All of the conveniences of home was in the Condo. I really appreciated the ADA consideration, both in the Condo and at Pono Kai. The town of Kapaa has all of the activities that one would like. The added attraction is the "trail" pathway that is in front of the building. Excellent for walking, hiking, biking, and enjoying the ocean. The owners were attentive to our needs - checking to see if we had any concerns. This we appreciated. Yes, were would recommend this to others and to return again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The 3rd floor condo has a great view & just steps from the beach. In front is a 3+ mile paved walkway - great for a stroll along the beach or to rent bikes from a place closeby - $10 for 2 bikes for 2 hours! It's a short walk to stores & restaurants. We happen to need computer printing several times so we opted to purchase a $10 library card from the library, which is about 2 blocks from the condo. Kapa'a is a great location for either traveling north or south, which we did several times during our 3 week stay. We enjoyed the Kauai Museum & a tour starts at 10:30, which was very informative. Enjoyed the coffee at Kauai Coffee Plantation. Salt Pond Beach was one of our favorites. Some of the restaurants we tried were Ono's (breakfast & shaved ice), Olympic Cafe, Shrimp Station (so-so), Bubba's Burgers (Kapa'a & Hanalei), Brennecke's (Poipu Beach), Kalaheo Cafe (2x), Lemongrass Grill (good seafood dinner) to name a few, but best of all was Hukilau Lanai for a delicious dinner, wonderful service & a lovely spot. If reservations aren't available, go about 5pm & you may be able to get a table anyway or eat in the bar area. Gary, the owner, had supplied us with much helpful information beforehand. The condo furnishings were adequate & the kitchen was well supplied. Beach chairs & towels are provided. However, our biggest turnoff was the condition of the mattress. It is spotted & soiled & really needs to be replaced & also a new mattress cover should be provided. I passed this on to Gary & also Grace, the housekeeper. We appreciated the phone call & concern from Gary that we had arrived & found everything in order. The Pono Kai personnel were very accommodating & especially Cyrus, who scheduled a trip for us on the Sunshine Helicopter & they picked us up at the resort. The resort grounds are well cared for as well as the pool. The BBQ grills are convenient & cleaned daily. New coin operated washer & dryers have been installed in the laundry rooms. The resort itself is an older complex & walls are very thin so it's nice to be on the 3rd floor so you don't have someone walking above you, however, easy to hear voices next door & below. All in all, our stay was a good one & we liked the location very much. We have visited the other islands many times, but this was our first trip to Kauai & we definitely will be coming back next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: The mattress is apparently stained, which is different from being "dirty." Nevertheless, I am having the mattress professionally cleaned this week. That should take care of that problem. I've purchased new mattress pads, and asked the housekeeper to make sure she changes the mattress pad each time she changes the sheets. The mattress is a very good mattress, and is barely 3 years old (purchased 1/16/2010). However, should the cleaning not take care of the problem, I'll replace the mattress.

I had a delightful month in this condo that was clean, well-stocked, and better than the pictures. This top floor unit has privacy, breathtaking view and ocean breezes for total comfort. The ocean is steps away, laundry facilities are in the building, swimming pool and jacuzzi close by, and local shops and restaurants within easy walking distance (if you are a quilter, Vicki's has quality fabric and rents sewing machines and supplies). All my questions were answered by the owner who was quite helpful. I have recommended this condo to my friends and family and hope to return often.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our family visits Kauai once a year, if at all possible. And we enjoy every minute of it. This was our first time on the Island for Christmas and New Years. We love this island and Kapaa is an excellent location. The Pono Kai is clean, comfortable and has lot of fun extras. Gary and Barbara always make us feel at home and are very thoughtful regarding what is in the condo for their guests. Grace does an excellent job at housekeeping. Every time we have arrived to a clean and comfortable condo. Have nothing but good things to say about this unit. We hope to visit again soon. As a bonus... During the winter months we've been lucky to see a few whales from the lanai. Two years in a row now we've done the sunset cruise with Cap't Andys. We highly recommend it!! Well worth the money. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We recently returned from Kauai and our second stay in this perfectly located condo on the Coconut Coast. We have fallen in love with the island and the condo and it is our holiday location of choice and hopefully for years to come-we have booked for next year... Each morning you arise to meet the sun glowing over the horizon and at night when the moon is in position, it too rises off the lanai, reflecting off the Pacific...trade winds are always a pleasant cooling influence..the Pacific 80 yards in front of the unit provides a soothing swell in which to frollic and to walk or sunbathe on perfect sand....what a fantastic relaxing environment!!!! The condo is on the upper floor(3) and a corner NE permits unrestricted views of the coast and northern mauntains...bedroom provides viewing of the beautiful sunsets. The condo is well equipped and well maintained...very comfortable in every respect. The entertainment centre is complete, enabling one to plug in devices and the ethernet connection provides perfect internet access....we love to skype our family at home often....Restaurants we found to be excellent: Post Cards (Hanalei), The Eastender (Kapaa), Gaylords (Lihue). Golf courses vary in price from Princeville ...a course with bragging rights but only for the wealthy and the low handicap...dozen balls needed for mid cappers...to Kooki course on the top of the island ( amidst the roosters and hens)..this is a beautiful location but great shots are not necessarily rewarded...but so much fun to play!!! The best value for quality is the municipal course south of Kapaa ..10 minutes from the condo....great layout, reasonable fees and very good condition. One can rent clubs at most courses or pay the freight for your own... The beaches on the bays pf the island are public and gorgeous....the sunsets st the northern and southern areas are superb. The red beach chairs in the condo are exellent to travel to the beaches with pockets for supplies and beverage holder!..they are perfect for relaxation and reading on the baches. The resort has very beautiful grounds and the staff most courteous and helpful. Gary, the owner, is available by phone and is always most anxious to address any concerns or questions. We cannot give a recommendation high enough for this location!!!....We love it! Aloha!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Setting the scene: You swing open the door of the condo for the first time, walk in, turn to your right...and the view of the Pacific ocean changes your life forever! No pictures could ever do proper justice to the grandeur of that magnificent view. Then, you pull open the sliding door to the lanai, and the refreshing trade winds whisk away the tension of life on the mainland. Within minutes of arrival, we knew that our stay at D-308 Pono Kai would be something very special. The condo is bright and cheerful. Its corner location on the top floor offers absolute privacy and the single best view in the resort. The palm trees between the lanai and the beach just steps away provide a postcard-like frame for your view of the magnificent sunrises. And even the view from the rear is great with lush gardens and a vista of Sleeping Giant. Unlike most other units in the resort, the bedroom windows are shielded from walkers-by due to its location. The living space is generous, the kitchen is well-equipped, the bedroom is adequate with a very comfortable bed and large closet with tons of clothes hangers. A very nice flat screen TV is provided (not that we ever watched!), a great sound system, and very quick Internet service both wired and WIFI. Most everything you'd need is provided, although we would have liked if there were a few more beach towels. A stop for a few groceries, and D-308 felt like home. The location is wonderfully central and there's everything you need right near the unit. Enjoy amazing breakfasts at the Ono Family Restaurant next door to the north, then work it off with a bike ride renting at Hele On Kauai rentals located right behind Ono ($10 for 2 bikes for 2 hours WOW!) Great meals at Eastside Cafe, Scotty's BBQ, and Shrimp Station. Wailua Kayak Adventures is right around the corner for a trip to Secret Falls. A couple of tips for your trip: Buy "Kauai Revealed", in invaluable guide book that you should read before your travels. Another good resource is Escape To Kauai podcast on iTunes Read thriugh the guest books in the condo...a good source for helpful tips Check out Holo Holo Charters snorkeling catamaran voyage to the Napali Coast and Niihau.. awesome trip. Don't miss sunset at Ke'e Beach (walk 10 minutes to the right.) And be sure to leave enough time to savor the peace and tranquility of D-308...your home away from home. Our sincere thanks to Barb and Gary for being an important part of our best vacation ever. We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This condo is in an amazing location and is a 3rd floor corner unit with panoramic ocean front views. The property is well maintained and very comfortable. The owner is easy to work with and provides excellent information. We left the sliding doors and windows open when at the condo and enjoyed the fresh sea breeze. The bed is comfortable and my sister found the sofa to be comfortable as well. The kitchen had all the amenities necessary and we loved the beach chairs. We will definitely stay here again. I highly recommend this property and location if you are looking for a relaxing and cozy atmosphere.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We really liked the location and the view from the appartment. The appartment ist well equiped and nice. It was clean and well maintained. A lot of information were sent before the stay. It was very comfortable to have direct beach access and the surrounding is also very nice. There are a lot of nice little restaurants around. Also the swimming pool and jacuzzi of the resort were ok. We would recommend this to couples for a nice stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

If you love the sound of the ocean, as we do, you will be very happy. Watching the ocean from the lanai is more beautiful than one can imagine. The unit is well stocked and the cookware is very good. The bed is very comfortable, but the fan in the bedroom is noisy on high speed. We would have loved more comfortable chairs on the lanai, however, we do realize how difficult it is to keep anything but plastic from corroding in the salt air. We will be back!Recommended for: Age 55+.
