This is the best location in Kapa'a. Top floor, ocean front, and corner unit on the very edge of the condo complex. Easy walk into town via the bike path right out front. Can hear the sound of the waves all the time. Kapa'a is a great location as it's close to the airport and midway between North and South island so you have your pick of either side for activities. Or just stay in Kapa'a where there are great restaurants, beaches, outdoor municipal pool, lots to do.

We have stayed in this unit in the past and we love it (and we have many to compare it to..as we have visited Kauai about 15 times over the years). It is always clean and comfortable. It is also loaded up with gear for the beach. Tons of books, a good sound system and new flat screen tv. The view is Ocean front which is amazing. We never miss the AC because there is a wonderful breeze that passes through from the lanai. Last time we were there (feb/12) we saw whales from our lanai. It doesn't get much better than that! :) Kauai can be expensive so having a full kitchen is a feature that is a must for us. The location is perfect. We been to the island several times so we've seen a lot of the sights. This unit is great because you never have to leave home if you don't want to. The beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming and its basically outside your door. But if you do want to sightsee your base is central. half way between the north and south shore. Kapaa is a fun little town to shop and or eat and everything is within walking distance. The owners are very accommodating and easy to work with. This unit is clean, sensible and very nicely situated. It is not, however, the Hyatt or some 5 star suite resort - if you're looking for a Four Seasons type of experience you'll be looking in a much higher price range which in our humble opinion is unnecessary. Kauai is to be enjoyed...it's not the kind of place where you want to hang out in a stuffy suite all day long. We believe that the wonderful price is set correctly for what you get. We highly recommend this unit at Pono Kai. Mahalo!

My wife and I spent 17 days in this very exceptional condo...what you see on the site is most accurate and Gary is very business minded and so client freindly! He answers all questions with dispatch and when he does not have the info at his fingertips, he finds the info and send it to you immediately...very impresive on all fronts..a pleasure to do business with! The condo is located so perfectly-a top floor(3rd) corner unit facing the Pacific 9app. 75 yards from the water!) with a constant trade wind caressing ...breakfast on the balcony as the sun rises is very special. The 5 mile walking path (25 yards from the condo building!) is superb. Each morning we walked a 2 mile stretch -varying the route daisly. The coastline that borders the path is breathtaking- as the surf pounds the shore..absolutely beatiful..each day the weather was excellent (78-84 mostly sunny and constant breeze...) The condo is 15 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes from a good(reasonable$) golf course, 5 minutes from Safeway store complex for shopping..recommend Safeway highly. Right across from Safeway is a resort in which is our favourite dining ...Oasis...ask for Henry as your waitor! Bar Cuda has a name and excellent food but we found they only do dinner and the 35 minute drive does not permit desirable wine pairing! South Pacific dinner/musical at the former Hilton resort was most enjoyable...recommend highly.. The washer and dryer in the building ia plus and the elevator is very helpful. The arrival at the condo was seamless..even at midnight! The condo has been renovated to give a very light and airy feeling...exceptionally clean and fully equipped The entertainment centre was a eral plus...docking station into system, jack in from compuetr to enable skype and streaming news and Sens games. The internet was invaluable. The TV screen and sytem of channels great...even some CDs and DVDs left for clients...and books to read-even to take with you if not finished!!! I could go on but you get the point, I.m sure....this is a gem of a condo in paradise...so muc so that we are booked for next year for a much longer stay...precise dates to be confirmed as soon as sorted out. Finally, we have found a haven to escape dull November..for years to come... Book this for your holiday...you will be delighted that you did!

My wife and I go to Kauai every year (this year twice). And we always stay at Pono Kai (best value, great beach, non-touristy, convenient, etc.). When we are planning to go, this is the first condo we check for availability. It has the best view, no other is closer to the water (we love to fall asleep listening to the surf), it's very well fitted out and the owners are great. What else could one want? Highly recommended to anyone who wants what we describe above. And, no, we are not related to or associated with in any way to the owner.

We had a wonderful time in Kauai! We loved staying at Pono Kai, the resort is beautiful and the people very friendly. We enjoyed the bike/walking path next to the condo and right along the beach. Each day wasn't complete until we treated ourselves to a "Ono Ono' Hawaiian Shave Ice right next door. The town of Kapaa is very charming. Thanks Gary, for taking such good care of us, we hope to return in the near future.

I cannot say enough positive things about this property and location, and this owner. My husband and I were on Kauai for our daughter's wedding and to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. When you walk in the front door, the view takes your breath away! The views are spectacular with the sunrise from the front room in the morning to sunset from the bedroom. The trades blow through the condo keeping it cool and fresh. The condo is walking distance to shops and restaurants and a very short distance from local markets. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils and appliances necessary. We loved our visit and will come back to Gary and Barbara's property again and again. Gary personally called us on our arrival to make sure everything was perfect and we were called on our departure again. I cannot say enough about the service and hospitality!

My husband and I just returned from celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in Kauai. While this was our second stay at the Pono Kai in the past year, Gary and Barbara's unit is definitely the best one we can imagine. The condo was well-equipped and well-maintained. Gary and Barbara were an absolute joy to work with. We have rented various vacation rentals through the years, and you couldn't ask for nicer owners to work with. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were always available to answer any questions we might have. They were incredibly organized; even providing us with inventory lists of what we could expect to find in the unit. This is incredibly helpful when you are deciding what to pack! The unit is in the most desirable spot on the property. We loved sitting on the lanai in the morning just watching the waves. The walking path that is right outside your door provides a wonderful walk right along the ocean. You are able to follow it for over four miles before needing to turn around. The scenery along the route is fantastic! Restaurants we enjoyed were: Mema Thai, Kauai Pasta, Brick Oven Pizza and Scotty's BBQ. Two of our absolute favorite casual eating spots are: TNT Steakburgers, just up the road from Pono Kai, and The Fish Hut which is located at the Coconut Marketplace. We are grateful that Gary and Barbara have made their unit available for rent. We DEFINITELY hope to have the opportunity to visit Kauai again (as soon as possible!) and will certainly try to arrange our trips when this unit is available to rent. Thanks so much, Gary and Barbara! We had a fantastic time!

We have vacationed in Kauai a number of times and have stayed at this resort at least 10 different times over the years. The Stephens’ condo has been the best by far! The accommodations were clean, orderly and offered lots of extras. It felt more like a vacation home than a strangers condo. Being on the top floor is an advantage as the floors/walls are somewhat thin so we always choose the top floor if available. And we never missed having AC because you get a beautiful breeze just by opening the lanai slider (not to mention the beautiful sound of the ocean waves). The view is beautiful, the beach is fairly calm so you can swim right there if you choose not to venture away from the resort. Shopping is all within walking distance. The price is very reasonable, a couple vacationed with us and paid about the same as we did but their accommodations at their Pono Kai condo were lacking, to say the least. The resort itself is always clean. The pool and hot tub were delightful and surprisingly under-utilized. All in all, I would give it 5 stars. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and clearly loved place to stay consider this condo.

We've used Gary and Barbara's Kauai home for our annual vacation since 2002 and each time, it has been a most pleasant experience. This condo is the most desirable location on the property and well equipped. We look forward to our annual visits to Kauai for the beauty and relaxation that it offers and will continue to use this location for our stay.

Our second time at this condo and love it! Lots of shops and places to eat within a one to two block radius. Best grocery deals are at Big Lots just 2 blocks away. Views from this unit are unbeatable! Sunrises in the morning from the lani, dining room table, or if you are like us, we cooked breakfast every morning at the start of sunrise and were eating on the lani while sun poked itself up out of the ocean. Then evenings we watched the sunset into the mountains from either the bedroom window or the common lani outside of our bedroom window. Perfect corner unit to bring in the full benefit of the island's trade winds! Thank you, Gary and Barbara for not only sharing your lovely condo but for the personal touches you add in making certain our time in your condo is the best it can be!

My husband and I stayed at this condo for our anniversary. We have stayed several times in Kauai at different condo's, but we LOVED this location the best. The condo was updated, clean, spacious, has a remodeled kitchen, and Lanai overlooking the beach and beautiful sunset. It is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and beaches. The condo was well stocked with all the kitchen necessities for cooking, boogie boards, travel books for around the island, and beach accessories. The owners were great to work with. Thank you so, so much for everything !! We hope to stay here again on our next visit to this beautiful island.

My wife and I stayed at Gary's Condo and it was clean and spacious offering a beautiful deck overlooking the beach and the paved trail that follows the waterfront through Kapaa. It is an easy walk to shops, groceries and beaches. The condo was well stocked with all the kitchen necessities for cooking as well as boogie boards, snorkels, etc. Bring your own soap and toilet paper. Gary was great to work with and very flexible when we decided to add a couple more day to our stay.

Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise. This was our first time to Kauai and the condo was the perfect location to see all of the island because of it's central location. Loved the restaurants in Kapaa and could walk to all. We never used the bedroom. We used the pull out sofa in the living room and with the slider open we could hear the waves all night. So peaceful. Thank you so much and we will be back!!

We had a wonderful time at the resort. The condo and property was clean and the view was lovely as we had expected. Kauai is a beautiful island and Pono Kai Resort is quiet and restful, very family-friendly. We definitely want to visit the island again and would love to stay in the same condo. One caveat: the roosters began crowing about 2:00 a.m. and stopped around 6:30 a.m. The first morning was the worst; one was right under our window. After that, they were far enough not to disturb too much. Since we're early risers, it was fine.

Aloha! Mahalo for allowing us to stay in your home during our first trip to Kauai! We loved the island, there are so many things to do. The hiking was great--it gave us a chance to see the inner island--Kuilau Ridge trail was our favorite. Enjoyed Ahi sandwich on the North Shore at the Polynesian Cafe--the steak and shrimp at Bull Shed--and the coconut shrimp at Shrimp Station on the South Shore. Best snorkeling was at Tunnels Beach. Thank you so much, Gary & Barbara, for sharing your wonderful condo! What a fantastic view. We really enjoyed the sunrises & relaxing on the lanai. We had a wonderful time in this beautiful condo. Perfect weather--no rain. Side window and screen were very dirty, so Joe cleaned them. Had a great time @ Sheraton's Beach & hiking the Sleeping Giant. Recommend Monico's, Verde, The King & I, Yahiti Nui on Tues. and Thurs. (Hawaiian music & hula), & Papaya's. The North Shore was spectacular, as always. Our fist day up north the surf was pounding and rumbling. From far off the waves looked like small hills moving in a froth toward shore. Be back soon--in about 1-2 years! Dayton, OH

This condo is perfectly positioned in the middle of the coast for easy travel either north or south. Everything in the condo was clean and neat and there was ample parking. We only ate breakfast there, but the kitchen had all the implements we needed if we wanted to make a meal. The best part was sitting on the lanai and watching the ocean waves. We couldn't get enough of it.
Owner response:It IS hard to beat--sitting on the lanai, and watching and listening to the waves crash upon the sand. FEEL your cares and stress melt away in this lovely and serene setting!
