La Roche Ronde is situated on the outskirts of the old village of Les Taillades on the western edge of the Luberon Mountain. Peaceful, but within easy reach of Cavaillon and the AutoRoute (four kilometers), 30 minutes to the TGV Avignon station, and 45 minutes to Marseille (Marignanne) Airport.
It is centrally placed to visit all of Provence, the Mediterranean and the Camargue are less than one hour away. The area has attractions for everyone all set amidst breathtaking scenery. The Luberon Natural Park, with its abundant wildlife, has many walks on mountain and woodland tracks and can be explored on horseback or mountain bike.
Provence is famous for its many medieval fortified villages perched on rocky outcrops with their narrow streets, fountains, and colourful cafes. Nearby is the geological wonder of Fontaine de Vaucluse and its underground river system whose source feeds the river Sorgue. Downstream is L'Isle sur la Sorgue, an internationally famous antique centre. Within easy reach by car is the walled Papal City of Avignon and the extensive Roman remains at Nimes, Arles, Pont du Gard, St. Remy, and Vaison La Romaine.
The local village markets offer an abundance of fresh produce, and the local vineyards will satisfy the needs of those who like to cook and sample the local wine. The big local supermarket is five minutes away by car and there are bakers, butchers, and grocery shops in the nearby villages of Les Taillades, Robion, and Cheval Blanc. In Cavaillon and the villages, there are numerous restaurants to suit all tastes.
One can canoe on the Sorgue, play golf at several local courses, and there are tennis and other sporting facilities in most towns and villages.
The traditionally restored farmhouse is spacious and cool, it has a large enclosed garden ample parking and an orchard, an inner graveled courtyard - great for boules - and colourful borders set around an ancient plane tree. There is a typical Provencal terrace running along the front of the house covered with vines and climbers ideal for dining outside.
To one side, screened by a rose arbour, is a swimming pool nine-meters by four-meters with paved surround, lawns, and barbecue. In front of the wrought iron gates there is a one hectare wild flower field frequently visited by the local shepherd and his flock.
The lounge is extremely roomy and comfortable with a stone staircase and a large window looking out onto the garden, TV, video, music centre, and comfortable settees and chairs for ten.
The dining room has an old Provencal ceiling with a banquet table and ten chairs. The beamed farmhouse kitchen has a large breakfast table and is fitted with all modern conveniences - oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, and lots of kitchen utensils. To the rear is a separate laundry room. French doors from the kitchen and dining room lead out onto the shaded terrace with large granite table and ten chairs.
On the ground floor entered from the lounge, there is a double-size bedroom with adjacent bathroom and a private entrance leading onto a delightful tiled and walled courtyard.
The first floor has one twin and one double-size bedroom, both beamed, sharing a shower room, a queen-size bedroom with it's private shower room, and another double-size bedroom with balcony and private shower room. NOTE: All bath/shower rooms have a wash basin and toilet. Please check that the bed configuration of three double, one queensize and two single beds suits your group.
Rates include garden and pool maintenance, gas, electricity, central heating, and a weekly clean and change of household linen and bath towels. Reasonable Telephone and computer usage is included. No Pets Please. We welcome you on arrival with a glass of wine or two! to enable us to explain the house and local area and, we leave a supper for you to enjoy later.
