We just returned from a 4-night stay at this lovely home. There were two families, 4 adults and 3 children and we had room for probably a whole other family! The house is nice than the pictures, so much room, well taken care of, and the views from every angle are gorgeous. We ski'd Taos while we were there, and it was an easy 20 minute drive or so to the moutain, and about 15 minutes to town. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, even offering recommendations for restaurants for us to visit that were good for small children (Michaels Kitchen and Pizanos were both great!) and preferred grocery stores to stock up and cook in the roomy kitchen. Our only complaint and tip for the owners would be to replace the mattress in the 2nd bedroom (across from hall bathroom) as it is completely worn out and angled so that you constantly fall down towards the foot of the bed. We actually played musical beds with the other couple several nights so that we could each get a good night's sleep in the very comfortable master king bed. Twice the adults ended up on the futon in the living room as it was more comfortable than the second bed. The queen in the 3rd bedroom was comfortable, and all the bedding was very soft and high quality. Thank you for a great stay!
Owner response:Broken slats which hold up the box springs were the culprit. They have been fixed and all is well and all beds/bedding are beautifully luxurious!

This was our 2nd stay at Casa de Cuentos, and like the last trip, it was absolutely perfect. The house is beautiful, welcoming, clean and there is more than enough space for everyone. So inviting, you feel at home the moment you walk in the door. Very private, wonderful views, relaxing hot tub to soothe those sore muscles after skiing, and an awesome den with a pool table and huge TV...I would recommend this place to anyone...don't hesitate to stay here. Don't even bother looking at other rentals, save your time! You are not going to find a better deal. Believe me, I bet I looked at every rental house out there and not only does this one have more ammenitites, the price is much cheaper than those with far fewer ammenities (please don't take this into consideration and raise rates on us!) We love this place and WILL be back, no doubt.

The home exceeded our expectations (with the possible exception of the repeated power failures during the storms!) Mother Nature helped add excitement with early snow fall and lightning shows! There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and we were pleasantly surprised at the lovely bottle of wine left for us. Pool tables, computer and separate TV in game room kept teenagers happy. We ALL enjoyed the fireplaces, comfy beds, spacious and well-appointed dining and kitchen areas! Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

We had a family outing to celebrate birthdays & our anniversary. The directions were excellent and the pictures were true to life The property is well maintained with everything supplied, except for food. Location is peaceful and quiet, just a short (20 minute) drive to Taos which has some very nice restaurants. From what we could learn, it was a real bargain. We all had a good time.

We loved our week in Taos (July 17-23), staying in the beautiful and serene Casa De Cuentos. The Casa was spacious, comfortable, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The big picture windows in the front room provided exellent viewing of our surroundings. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked, which was important, considering we were at capacity with 9 people. We cooked great breakfasts! The owner and caretaker were very responsive and easy to get in touch with. They provided lots of helpful information about the area and answered all our questions. The property, including the jacuzzi, were spotlessly maintained. It's also beautifully decorated. We enjoyed reading all the colorful rocks with sayings on them. My kids spent time in the jacuzzi almost every day and loved it. The well-stocked movie collection was helpful too. There are plenty of things to do in the area for adults and kids. We took an amazing horseback ride up in the mountains over one of the ski resorts. We also enjoyed Pueblo Village. Overall, we just had a great time and would love to go back again!

Excellent stay at Casa de Cuentos! Beautiful home, beautiful surroundings and excellent location. The only improvement needed would be window units or central air...a bit hot during the day for this Texas gal who has grown accustomed to my air conditioning!!! But, I would definitely recommend this home and would not hesitate to rent again.

My family & I have stayed at Casa de Cuentos twice in the past 2 years- indulging in what the property itself & the setting has to offer for entire week stays. It's an easy drive from the Santa Fe airport &/or the Albuquerque airport (we've done both- & have journeyed from Boston specifically to stay here). Located minutes from Taos and practically seconds from Arroyo Seco- there are ample places to stock up on groceries (try Cid's on the way into Taos: a Whole Foods-like grocer w/ delectable offerings- toiletries, too!), gas, & maybe a margarita or 2 along the way! Upon arriving @ this special property, one immediately sees its private nature- a long gravel road leads you to an area graced w/ this well appointed adobe accommodation. I was surprised at all the space inside- it looked humble on the outside, but once I walked in I was amazed by 2 oversized picture windows that let me gaze out over the mountain range. There are beautiful decorations throughout all rooms- lots of warm colors and silver/pewter accents- & each space is large- the house has a great flow and very open feel. A kitchen, dining room, living area make up most of common space, & then a HUGE master suite has a more private feel as it is down a hallway. My toddler aged children stayed in a full-size bed in a average sized bedroom that had an enormous closet for all the toys they brought (was dubbed the "toy closet"!) As if these rooms weren't enough- there's a huge rec room/den area that has the most warm feel to it. Perhaps it's the colors, the furniture, or the lighting...I don't know. But it could literally host a party & has more than enough room for a full size pool table, computer area, ski storage closet, & 2nd tv area (there's also a tv in the living room area). Another bedroom is located off this rec room/den area. We only turned on the tv (Direct TV which was nice!) briefly during each stay, as we were so busy reading, letting our children run around (there is so much space to play), cooking, and going for some challenging runs (definitely bring water though if it's summer, & aim for pre-10am). I also attempted to paint the scenery during my 2nd stay- the light is amazing & may inspire you to try things you've never in the past. I felt so healthy and full of energy during my stays there- yet so able to relax. At night, we developed a habit of "hot tubbing": amazing views of the sky- lots of shooting stars and a lovely darkness that is not seen in any urban area.

Recently we spent the weekend bathed in the New Mexico sunshine with views that took our breath away. The warmth that greeted us, from the colorful poetry on rocks, through the welcoming entry trimmed with a bright red door, we were spellbound. The home is gracious, comfortable and four star, from the fully equipped kitchen with views of the mountains, the luxurious beds with top level linens to the star studded Milky Way shooting more stars than we could count over our heads as we bathed in the deep hot tub; we were charmed. Stay here and you will return to your daily routine refreshed and recharged with spirit and full of life. It was delightful, thank you!!!

Perfect location for this perfect house! Great access to Taos, ski mountain, Gorge bridge and more. The house is very well laid out and the open floor plan makes for great times with family and friends. 360 degree views surround the home and the deck is awesome. This was the 3rd home we have stayed in and by far, our favorite. We will be back!

A long awaited family vacation was all we hoped for and more thanks to the accommodations at Casa de Cuentos. Quiet space, together space, hummingbirds around the hot tub, a well-appointed kitchen and ample windows for watching the ever-changing weather over the mountains. Thanks to the Clancys we felt at home right away. It was nice to be out of Taos and yet close enough for all it had to offer. I would highly recommend this beautiful and lovingly cared for home.

A visit to many worlds all in one place” Nov 7, 2009 Driving up the winding road to the ridge overlooking the magical folds of the Taos countryside, I felt as if I were being embraced by some invisible loving energy that filled me with peace and anticipation all at once. Stepping out of my car on to the grounds of Casa de Cuentos, my attention was immediately drawn to the story on the land. Hand painted rocks with insights drawn from the ages wound their way in and out and among the trees and rocks and earth. Walking inside I found the warmth and comfort of home combined with the art and decor of the southwest complimented by large window expansive views. Sitting in the hottub under star light and moon glow enhanced the profound mystical dreams that seemed prophetic. Walking along the ridge was like being in a Japanese Garden with sweet surprises at every turn. Fourth of July events including a wild parade in Arroyo Seco and shops that pulled me with their intrigue made for a fun-filled people-watching day topped by a pig roast, jalepeno eating contest and music that put a smile on everyone's face. All of this was just a small piece of the pie of life I enjoyed at Casa de Cuentos. Mucho Gracias!!Suzanne Coast

We spent a wonderfully relaxing month at Casa de Cuentos in the fall of 2009. The private location has great mountain views from the deck, the hot tub or through the large picture windows in the house. We spent a lot of time in the well-equipped kitchen cooking up the fresh food we bought at the Taos Farmers Market. Loved the kiva fireplace for those chilly fall nights at the 7000 foot elevation. When we were not vegging out, the location was a great jumping off point for day trips all around northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Tammi and Dave Clancy are welcoming owners and we could not have asked for friendlier and more helpful caretakers in KC & Kevin Kierst.

My husband and I enjoyed 4 weeks at the comfortable Casa de Cuentos in August - a wonderful relief from the Texas heat. We never missed the A/C! Casa de Cuentos is perfect for a family gathering with the 2 living areas and pool table which was really enjoyed by all. The caretakers of the property were so very helpful - anything you needed or had a question about they were right there for you. The Love Apple Restaurant proved to be one of our very favorite dining spots! There were humming birds all month long out on the deck and if you were up early you could see the hot air balloons off the back patio. We would recommend Casa de Cuentos as a true Taos experience!
Owner response:Constance hit the wrong year for date of stay. They just stayed this August of 2011- Spet. 7, 2011 and were fantastic guests!

Great choice Terri - S. FL. South Florida Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009 My family (2 teenagers & two adults) recently stayed for a week at Casa de Cuentos. The house is exactly as decribed by the owners and really is conveniently located between 'downtown' Taos and Taos Ski Valley. We frequently rent houses during our vacations and this was, by far, the most well equipped home we have rented. The kitchen was well stocked, there were plenty of towels and blankets, a variety of games to play, in addition to the pool table. (even a hair dryer and cotton swabs in the bathroom). The owners attention to detail was impressive and appreciated. The house was lovely, the views were inspiring, the hot tub relaxing, the pool table and games provided hours of fun. Between Taos and Ski Valley there are many activities to keep you busy, should you not want to spend the days relaxing in the house. We had lunch out every day, in Taos and in Ski Valley, and although the food was not gourmet, every meal very good and we received excellent service at each of the restaurants. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend visiting Casa de Cuentos if you are planning a trip to the Taos area. Casa de Cuentos is a quiet, comfortable home that we would definitely rent again. The kitchen is fully stocked, right down to the coffee grinder. The beds are great with upscale linens; the bathrooms stocked with many extras. We stayed here during January and were amazed at the difference with radiant heated floors. No sweaters needed inside the house even when temp's were in the single digits. Combine all that with gorgeous mountain views and you can't miss with this home.

Ten seconds after walking through the front door and into the large picture windows living room one of our 13 year old daughters declared "awesome!" - impressing a teen takes some doing. The house is one of the very best that we have visited in 30 years of renting vacation homes. And perfectly located for access to the mountains, Rio Grande gorge, desert plains and Taos. We also made a day trip to Santa Fe. One favorite location for the family was the cafe in the nearby small town of Arroyo Seco, the Taos Cow. That was our local hang out; several afternoons ended with their homemade ice cream.

My father, brother and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Casa de Cuentos to celebrate Dad's 75th birthday. The house and its surroundings were even more spectacular in real life than shown in pictures on the website. Beautiful views of the mountains can be had from almost any window. The house is warm, inviting and laid out to maximize your comfort. It's also quite secluded. You drive past one house and might occasionally see/hear the neighbor down the road slipping past, but at the house itself it's just you and nature. Sitting on the deck, absorbing the silence of nature, smelling the clean, fresh scents of the shrubs and trees--what could be better? We made good use of the pool table and TV to watch our video collection, being that we were most interested in just relaxing and spending time together. Those interested in hiking, shopping, skiing, etc. will find ample to do. Town is about 20 minutes away with the construction, but it's a nice drive once you know your way around. We brought in groceries from town and made full use of the kitchen and grill, but Tammi will provide you with many good restaurants from which to choose. I liked that I was dealing with real people and not a faceless corporation. You will definitely get the personal touch and any help you need. The best summary I can give is what my dad said as we left: "I wasn't ready to go."

The home is cozy and warm -- very relaxing and peaceful, comfortably furnished and well maintained. Our family could not have been made to feel more at home. KC, the caretaker, is just as the owner described her -- the "nicest lady we have ever met"! The views from the living room and dining room windows are spectacular. The location is secluded but also convenient to both town and the ski valley. We will absolutely stay here again. In fact, we want to book 2009 NOW!

The location is great, far enough away from town to enjoy the wonderful peace and quiet and the incredible night sky, but close enough to Taos, the ski resort and hiking opportunites to be very convenient. The house has all of the amenities we hoped for, and the furnishings are very comfortable, right down to the bedding that was so comfortable that we had a tough time getting ourselves out of bed in the morning :) The owners have poured a lot of love into this home, and it's obvious. August 21stTaos is such a magical, other-worldly, beautiful place and Casa de Cuentos ia a lovely place to call home for a week. Thank you so much for the gift of the Rio Grande pinon coffee. We loved it so much we bought some at Smith’s grocery store to bring home with us to Winston-Salem, NC. We also loved the varied and interesting reading material throughout the house, as well as the world and culturally encompassing altars in every room. Many blessings to the people who built and renovated this house, its caretakers and the lucky guests who came before and after us.Cheryl Schirillo and family(Jonathan, Nicholas, Elaine and Stan Bates)

Dear Tammi, Dave and KC, The first word we said when we entered the door was "wow!" That cannot begin to describe how wonderful this place is. Staying here has restored some much needed serenity for us all. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home, hopefully we'll return in the winter. Claire and family Dallas, Texas

Dear Clancys and KC, My family and I want to thank you for a wonderful stay this month. The house is wonderful. Your attention to providing a lovely, well-equipped house is beyond expectation. We look forward to seeing you again in a Taos that is the most verdant I have seen in so many years. Burns' Family

Hi Tammi, Just wanted to drop you a note to say thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us. This place is incredible and we are all enjoying it very much. We are on our way out the door to take the dogs and go for a hike. It will be tough to go back to Dallas after being in a place like this. Serenity. Thanks again, Claire

The photos do not do Casa De Cuentos justice. Tranquil and Mystical are accurate descriptions. The views from anywhere on the property or in the house are spectacular. Both sunrise and sunset were wonderful. A pleasant and close drive into Taos. Take a morning walk down the nearby neighborhood roads. The house is cool and comfortable. The hot tub sparkles. I have stayed in Taos several times before but will definitely return to Casa de Cuentos - and soon! A truly relaxing, well appointed, and comfortable place. I highly recommend it.
