  We arrived at this lovely home and walked through the house like children reliving wonderful memories of our childhood vacations. We enjoyed the fireplace and the view of the ocean is breathtaking.

  Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

• Charming getaway

  I spent a weekend with friends here last spring, and couldn't wait to return this year. It's a homey, clean, and comfortable house full of details to delight lovers of vintage: warm wood floors and walls, built-ins, farmhouse kitchen sink, and a huge, deep, old-fashioned bathtub in the hall bath upstairs. While downtown Montauk is within walking distance and glitzier towns a short drive away, we cooked for ourselves in the well-equipped kitchen and spent most of our time enjoying the gorgeous ocean from the upstairs deck, or a fire in the big yet cozy living room. Owners are helpful and pleasant!

• Great house, great view!

  We spent a lovely weekend in this house and plan to come again. It's very comfortable and pretty, and it was furnished with everything we needed. Both the second floor deck and the first floor sun porch overlook the ocean, so you have a beautiful view by day and the breezes and sound of the waves by night. Two of the bedrooms open onto the deck, and there are couches and a futon on the sun porch, and we spent a lot of time just enjoying the view or walking on the beach, when we weren't out sightseeing. I would certainly recommend a stay here; the cottage and Montauk itself are more charming than the pictures can convey.

  We stayed in this cottage for a week at the end of the summer, and loved it so much we came back in the spring. I was pleasantly surprised at how charmingly it's decorated, and the interior has been renovated in keeping with the original style of the house. It's not a billionaire's Hamptons getaway, but I don't want that in a beach cottage. It feels like a house that's been in my own family for years, one that I've always known. The owners provided beach chairs and other items so we didn't have to shlep anything out from the city. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the atmosphere was really relaxing and unfussy. We hardly left the house except to go to the beach; if you stock up on groceries at the nearby (pretty easy to walk to) IGA, you won't have to either! The deck off the master bedroom is probably the best feature; sitting out there watching the ocean became our favorite way to end the day. We hated to leave this house! Definitely plan to rent it again. We are a couple, but it would be a great place to go with kids.

Cancellation policy:

1. This is a NON SMOKING unit. 2. Do not flush anything down the toilets besides toilet paper. No sanitary items or paper towels. (It backs up our septic tank, which causes an unpleasant mess.) 3. DAMAGE DEPOSIT- A damage deposit of $500 is required. This must be received with final payment. The deposit is NOT applied toward rent; however, it is fully refundable within (14) days of departure, provided the following provisions are met. a. No damage is done to unit or its contents, beyond normal wear and tear. b. No charges are incurred due to pets during the stay. c. Keys are returned. d. No linens are lost or damaged. 4. Provided is a fully equipped kitchen, household linens, a TV with cable service, wireless Internet and a Blu-Ray player. All utilities are included, except for pay-per-view movies. 5. Please do not block the driveway when parking! Feel free to park on the parking area in back. 6. Cancellation policy: rent will be refunded 100% provided 60 days’ notice is given. No refunds can be given for “acts of God,” for example hurricanes or other inclement weather.
