This was our first experience with Home Away and our first visit to Vermont. The four nights we stayed with our family (3 young children) were perfect! Westerdale Farm was beautiful and exactly as depicted in the online photos. We felt very comfortable, had plenty of space and were amazed at the beautiful views - especially sitting in the family room looking out the huge window as it snowed. The kids seemed to love the "loft" area to play games. The house itself was very well maintained and I loved the gym in the basement. We made several trips to Killington for skiing with our kids and went into Woodstock to eat at the Woodstock Inn with grandparents. All were in close range to the house. I highly recommend staying at Westerdale Farm with extended family because there is ample room. The only thing i would rate a bit lower was that wi-fi wasn't working after the first day of our stay, but we had a hot spot to use, so it worked out fine. Also, be sure to bring plenty of food as the local stores were very expensive and there's no lack of storage in the kitchen! All in all, we were very pleased with our stay and would love to go back in the near future! Thank you Barbara!Owner response: This is a lovely review and I am grateful for all of the positive comments. I'm sorry to learn that the wireless Internet did not work while this guest was in our home. Usually, it simply requires turning the wireless router off then back on and that solves it. Although they did not complain, we would have been quite eager to correct the problem. In any event, it sounds like it didn't affect their stay and we welcome them back at some future date. Thanks again for your very nice review.

This is our second stay at Westerdale Farm. We are in love with this part of the world, and this beautiful home makes the perfect launch pad for all of our favorite activities. This year we mountain biked and hiked at Killington, ate amazing "farm to table" meals, fly fished the Battenkill, and explored the trails around the house. The best thing about Westerdale Farm, aside from its proximity to all things Vermont, is the sense of ease you get in those moments when you just want to be still. The fire pit under the stars at the end of a long, active day is just one highlight of this wonderful country home. The perfectly appointed kitchen with all the bells and whistles is another. We will see you next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

What an incredible home. It was the perfect place to celebrate 4 family birthdays and my parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary. Lasting, meaningful memories were made in this beautiful home and property. So close to the center of Woodstock too. We all shopped and ate lunch on Saturday. Then off to the opening day at the Billings Farm Museum. Doesn't get any better than that. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home. ~I would highly recommend staying here and hope to return some day!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Woodstock is a special place--the kind of place where my family and I spent countless Thanksgivings at a house on the village green until it was recently sold after the grandparents passed away. In an effort to keep the tradition of heading "over the river and through the woods alive", we found Westerdale Farm--and what a beautiful surprise. The warmth and comfort of the house made us all feel like we were home again. The gorgeous fully equipped kitchen made for hassle-free Thanksgiving preparations, and the spacious living room became the perfect place to unwind by the fire while taking in the gorgeous natural beauty of the snow draped landscape outside. A true retreat. Upon leaving, we took with us memories of one of the best holidays we've had and the feeling of knowing we'd be back. Paula FentonDid you find this review helpful? This was my first experience with HomeAway, and thanks in no small part to the owners of this beautiful country home, it was perfection. I was booked to stay at an inn in Woodstock for a wedding however, due to the effects of Hurricane Irene and the subsequent closure of the inn I was forced to scramble for alternative accommodations for my entire family. What at first appeared to be a terrible inconvenience ending up making our Vermont weekend. I came across this listing on HomeAway and emailed the owner - who immediately got back to me. As a first time renter I was nervous about the convenience or inconvenience of dealing with a home owner as opposed to a hotel, I shouldn't have been. Everything went flawlessly with my rental. The home was fantastic: great location, beautiful rooms, nice layout, perfectly clean and very obviously well maintained. Bottom line, the next time I find myself in the Woodstock area I will not even consider an inn if this home is available. Thanks for a wonderful experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Driving up to the house we were struck by how beautiful the whole setting was. The grassy hills were so perfect for our children to run and play, the Barn is so Vermont, and the pond was perfect for hours of fishing entertainment! The outdoor fire and terrace were a highlight! Inside, the house was just as wonderful. Wooden beams and floors paired with comfy furniture and snuggly blankets made us feel right at home! The kitchen was big, clean, open and easy to hang out in. There was even a "hide out" playroom as my kids called it. We slept better and longer than we do at home, it was so peaceful and quiet! We made wonderful memories in this home and hope to return! The owners are also wonderful!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We rented the O'Connell's lovely Woodstock home the last week of Sep 2010. We were visiting from California with 2 other couples. We wanted a quintessential New England home on a quiet property with easy access to necessities as well as the White Mountains of NH since we planned to do a fair amount of hiking. When my wife and I arrived at the house, the other couples greeted us on the porch, raised their arms, and said we had found the perfect home for our week's stay. Over the next week all three couples reiterated how fortunate we were to have found this home. The pictures on the Website really don't do justice to the feel of the home. The home was that perfect blend of modern conveniences with classic New England charm. Everything we needed was provided. Everything in perfect working order. Barbara O'Connell couldn't have been more efficient and timely in answering any questions prior to our arrival. Both Barbara and her property manager Stan were available to us during our stay, but we had no need to contact either one of them. All three couples agreed we will return to this wonderful Woodstock "farmhouse" in 5 years for our 25th Dartmouth Medical School reunion. Really no need to look elsewhere.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this home with another family who also have 3 children ages 6, 4 and an infant. The home is beautiful--gourmet kitchen and fireplaces in many rooms. The outdoor space is breathtaking--pond on the property and acres and acres of land. We cooked dinner 6 out of the 7 nights and ate on the patio while the children ran around. Then we built bonfires in the fire pit and roasted marshmallows for s'mores. I've rented many properties in the past and the thing that set this one apart from the rest were the "little things." The house was fully stocked with shampoo, soap, detergent, toilet paper, and everything else you would need for the week. And most important, Barbara was extremely responsive. I called her 2 times after we arrived and she returned my call within 10 minutes both times. We created memories that will last us a lifetime. I recommend this house without reservations and intend on coming back in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This beautiful, perfectly appointed home was the perfect place for our family vacation. The property is so extraordinary, you really don't have to leave if you don't want to, yet it is right in the middle of all the great things that Vermont has to offer. The kitchen was fun and easy to work in. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. Barbara, the owner, was attentive to our every need. I almost hate to write such a glowing review, because I selfishly want to keep it our little secret!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wow, what a magnificent home. My wife and I spent 2 days there in October and had a wonderful time. The home was so beautifully put together - it was like walking through pages of a super comfortable Architectural Digest level home - there was so much attention to detail throughout. The kitchen which hosts a fabulous huge farm table was simply the most beautiful kitchen I've ever been in. It has all top of the line appliances - we could of spent our entire time there in the kitchen. The grounds are spectacular - with the lovely pond and well attended fields. The master bedroom has one of those high overstuffed beds - that reminds me of the famous ones at Sofitel hotel in San Francisco where we often do business. Many of the rooms had state of the art flat panel tvs for some kicked back tv watching after a day leaf peeking. The house had broadband wireless for catching up on email and getting a bit of work done while away. And with all this sumptuous luxury - the rental fees were less than most of the b & b's we stayed in throughout Vermont. I only wish we had stayed longer to enjoy it all. And as another reviewer mentioned Woodstock is so centrally located in Vermont - you really can drive to any part of the state from there within a few hours. By the way - the owner Barbara was a total pleasure to work with throughout the booking process and during the stay. She was always quick to answer any questions. And her property manager Stan - was just a quick call away with any questions about how the house worked/where things were, etc. So, if you're thinking of renting this home - take it for a week or longer and let yourself really enjoy the place. It really is a home away from home.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It would be difficult to find a more perfect Vermont vacation home than this. Every detail of this renovated farmhouse obviously has been carefully thought out; every amenity provided. The family spaces - the family room , library, and livingroom - are beautiful, comfortable, and well-designed for relaxing, watching televison and reading (the house has a fine selection of current books and novels ). The kitchen is a joy for those who like to cook: the appliances are top-notch and there is all the cookware and dishes one might need . The adjoining dining room is spacious - we used it for all our meals. There is a gym with a full range of equipment for those who simply cannot sit still .Upstairs, the bedrooms are country house fantasies - high comfortable beds with cushy comforters and pillows and beautiful views of the grounds. The bathrooms are modern and attractive and there is plenty of hot water. The grounds are beautiful. Although we couldn't use the terrace because of rain, it would be a great place to sit and just enjoy the quiet of the surroundings. The town of Woodstock is only a few miles away. It's fun for browsing and shopping, and there are some nice places to eat (Bentleys is one of our favorites). Vermont is small, so you can reach almost any destination easily. But even if you can't think of any specific place to go, just traveling the roads and visiting the small towns is lots of fun.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
