Keywords: House
This ABSOLUTELY charming AND RECENTLY REMODELED bungalow in the historic district of Wilmington was built in 1916, has 9 foot ceilings throughout, and is located right off the popular Wrightsville Avenue amidst older homes constantly being remodeled. It has two bedrooms and a single bath, with a queen size sleeper sofa and a large chair with a single size sleeper in it, making it a great place for up to 7 (3 couples + one extra) to sleep.
You are approximately 1 mile from Front Street and the Cape Fear River and only about 15 minutes from Wrightsville Beach. Across the street is a house used in the TV series One Tree Hill. It is the house Lucas, played by Chad Michael Murray, lives in. And yes, you can often sit on the porch with a glass of wine or your favorite beverage and watch them film.
It is walking distance to a wonderful little breakfast and lunch diner, a great park with a playset for kids and a large field for soccer, baseball, football, or playing with your dog. Just across from the park is a Port City Java, so everyone in the family can get their coffee fix.

Map & Owner's Profile
1916 Bungalow Historic Wilmington & Near Wrightsville Beach
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Wilmington
As a child, Allen use to visit family and vacation in Wilmington, so he has always had a strong attraction and sense of belonging to the area. In 2002, when he bought the home, he was looking to find a place that needed some work, but would ultimately offer a destination...a home for friends, family and vacation renters to enjoy. The home is located on a unique one way street in its neighborhood, which was attractive, and there were numerous homes being remodeled. Fast forward to today, and nearly all of the homes on our street have been remodeled, a new Neighborhood Association has been formed, and we couldn't be more happy to not only provide the location for rental, but we also love to go ourselves.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The number one comment we have had about the rental, is that "it feels like home". Its extremely hard to try and break that down into specific features, because its not the soft sheets on the beds or the VHS movie or book selection, or one piece of decoration - its the overall feeling that our renters get when each of these components are present. Susie is FANTASTIC at making a house feel like a home, while Allen is all about making it simple to stay there - from the wireless Internet and free local AND long distance calling, to the landscape lighting, remote controllable ceiling fans and the Google Map of our favorite places we provide. At the end of the day, our goal is simple: you, our customer, are paying money to take a vacation or otherwise come to Wilmington, and we try to do everything we can (within reason of course :) for you to leave and feel like that was the best money you ever spent and would recommend others to stay with us without hesitation.
Owner's Map of Wilmington
Wyke Properties, LLC was founded by Allen Wyke. He, and his wife Susie met, were engaged and were married in Wilmington, NC. We neither of us have ever lived in Wilmington, it not only has a special place in our hearts, but is an area of NC that we LOVE to visit as often as possible.

The house was so beautiful! The pictures do not do it justice, it is much bigger than I had thought, we had 7 people and fit very comfortably in the home. We would have loved to stay longer, had a wonderful time and hope to return!
Owner response:Thanks so much for the great review! You are correct, in that its hard to get pictures that show the detail in the home and the spaciousness of it. When we had the recent remodel performed, we actually hired carpenters to do the work, so all of the molding in the home (except the crown) is hand cut and routed...even the shoe molding! And by removing the wall between the living room and dining room, coupled with removing the original ceilings and having them leveled and re-sheet rocked, their 9' height really opens up the entire home. And come back any time, we would love to have you stay with us again!

I stayed over the New Years Eve holiday at this cute Bungalow. We absolutely loved the home! The beds had really nice linens and were extremely comfy! The home was very clean and spacious for a two bedroom home. The interior of the home was lovely, the furniture and decorations were very classy. The backyard is very cute with a nice tall fence and a large deck. The tile in the bathroom and kitchen look great. It is obvious that the owners have spend alot of time and money making the home look so beautiful and inviting. I highly recommend this home to anyone interested in renting a cute place to stay in downtown Wilmington.

The house was perfect for our needs. Everything was clean and comfortable. The only suggestion I would have is a few more pots and serving utensils but most people probably don't cook as much on vacation.

This is a great place. The owners were very communicative and willing to allow us to check in early. The location is cool- people in the neighborhood were friendly. We even saw a few One Tree Hill tourists take some photos of the featured house down the street. Everything was as described and we could not have asked for an easier transaction or more relaxing stay in Wilmington. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!

This house was perfect for our stay in Wilmington for our niece's wedding. We looked for a rental instead of a hotel because we travel with our dog. The neighborhood was perfect for walking him. We loved the open living area and big kitchen, along with the comfortable bed! The house was clean, well-decorated, and safe. I love Arts and Crafts homes, and this original had beautiful windows, wood floors, and woodwork. The modern kitchen, bathroom, and heating/cooling system were definite advantages, too. Of course, all old homes (especially in humid areas) smell a little musty. Also, the living room television did not receive a signal. These were the only negatives, though, and I feel nit-picky even mentioning them. This is a wonderful house.
Owner response:Hello Lisa...thanks so much for writing such a thorough review! I am REALLY sorry to hear about the smell of the house and the TV. As we put in our notes to people who rent, I really wish you would have notified us. If Time Warner Cable isn't working for some reason, that is an easy fix for us to handle, as you should have been getting a large selection of TV channels...its one of our largest monthly expenses with the home actually. As for the smell, that is odd...the Wilmington area has certainly had a larger than normal rainfall this year and yes, the house is approaching 100 years old, but the whole house has been remodeled with new insulation, air ducts, doors, ceilings, floors in places and is often cleaned multiple times a week depending on the renting schedule. Unless you just so happen to be there just before we have the air filters changed, which are doing very regularly, I can't imagine what else it might be; that is about the only thing I can think of. Either way, we would have been happy to have the cleaning service out to take care of the situation, as we really do strive and go out of our way to have all 5 star reviews of the home. Either way, thanks for the review and we do hope you will visit us again in the future.

This property exceeded by expectations! The house was very spacious and clean. The interior was beautiful with lovely hardwood floors, tons of natural light, and a functional kitchen. We had a full lineup of cable channels as well as well-stocked bookcases. My English Bulldog enjoyed having a yard to play in and taking walks throughout this safe, friendly neighborhood. We were within minutes of multiple beaches and downtown attractions. Wilmington is a great city and this house was the perfect end to busy days sightseeing and swimming along the coastline. For what you receive, this house is the perfect price! Very pet and family friendly! The owners also provide excellent communication and directions. I would definitely stay here again. In fact, if I could have plucked this house and taken it home with me, I would have. It was beautiful!

My girlfriends and I stayed at this house for a weekend getaway. We fell in love with the town of Wilmington and absolutely adored this well put together home. The beach was about a 15 minute drive. The only down fall was the one bathroom for the whole household. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants their own space and a "homey" feel while on vacation.

Our family just returned home and loved your house! The pictures do not do justice--so much room, and great location. Our dogs loved the huge back deck and front porch. The kids enjoyed the office area for their toys and having room to spread out. Thanks so much!
