A magical summer on The Strand

When my wife and I brought our kids back to Manhattan Beach from our new home in Boston for two weeks this summer, we could not have hoped for a better experience than we had. The house was charming, perfectly located, clean and offered amazing parking to have friends stop by. The town itself was, as always, magical. By the end of the trip, the five-year old was standing on a surf board and the three year old had fallen in love with beach volleyball. Our only hiccup was some internet connectivity issues with my Mac but the owners stopped right by and helped me trouble-shoot a solution. On our last day, my son was watching the sun set and turned and asked: "You and mom REALLY used to live here? Why'd you move?" And I know just how he felt. We can't wait for our next summer at the beach in this special home.
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Location, location, location? Yes, yes, yes! You can't beat this place for a truly relaxing get-away right on the sand, and a very short walk to the pier and center of town. Adults get to sip cocktails on the deck while keeping an eye on kids playing on the beach and riding bikes on the Strand.Very comfortable, surprisingly spacious, and well equipped. It's why we keep coming back!
Recommended for:Sightseeing, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+.

The good: On the strand and direct access to the beach, very nice owners who try hard to fix things, good water pressure. Tech wise, there is only one TV which is fine but wifi only works 10% of the time which is hard. Downside: Unfortunately, this property is too much hassle and very run down. I gave it two points because the owners try but have such an uphill battle!
Owner response: Our home is a vintage 1920's beach house and is exactly as pictured online. We did everything possible to please this renter, including showing her the property beforehand, as we sensed, after multiple communications, that she and our beach house would not be a good fit. As for the tech, the wifi has since been fixed and alas, there is indeed (as listed) but one t.v. Since the summer, we have finished refurbishing a detached guest room that includes another full bath/shower (yay!) and garage. We now have 5 parking spaces for our renters to utilize. So...if you're looking for a beach holiday in a Strand classic at a great rate, this is the vacation rental for you...leave your "hassles" at home and "run down" to the beach from the best location in town! The only "uphill battle" here will be your trip home. Cheers!
