loved the cabin but not its upkeep

I loved the cabin it was very nice but have a few complaints about the up keep.. The front step leading to the cabin was very weak and the doors to deck and the one in basement would not lock had to use a board to keep someone from coming in. couldnt raise the windows in the downstairs as the screens had large holes in them, a lot of spider and spiders webs and really needs to be swept and mopped properly. I loved the lay out of the cabin and the area just wish it could have had more linens not enough for three beds and wish it had been a little more cleaner. I enjoyed my relaxing time other than this. found dog hair all through cabin and even on the pillow cases that was suposed to have been clean have my doubts about that.

Owner response:Thank you for staying at our cabin. We have fixed the front step and added more linens, towels, shampoo, conditoner and body wash to the cabin. The basement currently has a wood security bar and not a board that prevents people from entering. We have spoken to our housekeeper about the dog hair issue as well.

Our family had a wonderful time and really enjoyed all of the amenities this cabin had to offer. It was peaceful,restful, and had the feeling of seclusion. The log bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We brought our dogs, and though the oldest was "on his last legs", they really enjoyed themselves in the yard and especially liked hanging out with us on the deck. He passed away just yesterday, and we were happy that one of his last experiences was enjoying a last vacation with us. Thanks for a lovely time!!!

This cabin was extremely well equipped with games, dvd, cable, Playstation, foosball. Behind the cabin are beautiful woods with a lovely stream running through it. The beds and all the furniture was super comfortable and the kitchen looked great too - we did most of our cooking on the outside gas grill. The weather was clear and cool and we enjoyed ourselves greatly. Our dog loved fetching in the lake in Cacapon State Park ten minutes away.

I loved the cabin. My only small complaint is that is was a bit dark. A second floor lamp next to the sofa would be so nice. But the cabin is comfortable and we would go back.... but please add a second light. The movie selection was great and the beds were very comfortable

My husband and I along with our little dog sammie spent a week here last August. The cabin was quite nice, very comfortable and provided all the things we needed. We enjoyed the large DVD collection and watched a new movie every evening. We enjoyed the shops and restaurants of Berkeley Springs and even tried the mineral baths. We also took some day trips and our favorite was to Winchester VA less than an hour away. I would definitely recommend a stay in this lovely relaxing cabin!

My girlfriends and I spent a wonderful weekend at this beautiful cabin. The photos don't do it justice. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed. Loved sitting out on the back deck and watching the sun rise over the trees. The cabin is not too far from town, but far enough that you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The kitchen was spotless and the appliances are top notch. We had the most wonderful time in the cabin and made many wonderful memories. We can not wait to come back!

We had a good time at Retreiver's Retreat last August. The house was exactly as described, and was very clean. The setting is beatutiful and quiet. We went to the nearby state park and shot clay pidgeons, and went rafting on the Potomac. We also took a bike ride on the trails of a nearby town and enjoyed the green market in town We would recommend this cabin.

We had a great weekend last July at Retrievers Retreat, made so much more special because we could bring our Border Collie. Our 2 kids, ages 10 and 12 enjoyed the pond - catching uncountable small fish and being amazed viewing the whale -size carp. It was easily within walking distance from the cabin with our fishing gear. We also enjoyed the easy access to the state park, and the restaurants in Berkeley Springs. The cabin was nicely appointed and furnished, and very comfortable and clean. The owners are great communicators! Overall, a very very nice trip and we hope to stay there again!

We've stayed at Jack Russel's Ridge and now Retriever's Retreat, but don't let the names mislead you. We don't have dogs and enjoyed our stay immensely! We do have three kids who love our trips to Berkeley Springs and who never get bored at the cabins. These are great places to stay, pets or no pets.

I loved the location and house. The TV was quite hard to figure out and we never got the DVD players working. The grass was 2 feet tall, so for our kids and dogs to use the back yard..I had to cut the grass first thing upon arrival. The gas for the grill was empty, i had to go buy a new one to use for our dinner. The rooms were nice. The AC units were not installed in the windows and it was hot as can be the weekend we were there. The arrival and entry to the unit was easy. The reservation process was smooth. We really enjoyed Cacapon park, the swimming was great! THe horse back was fun too and affordable.

Owner response:Thank you for staying at our cabin. We have added a new more user friendly DVD player. As for the grass and AC units, there was a miscommunication with our handyman. We make every effort to make our guests have a relaxing vacation.

I rented the cabin last year for a weekend away from home for my family. The cabin was fantastic. It was off from the main roads, but still a short drive to the town. My husband and I stayed for a weekend at Retriever's Retreat as a celebration of his birthday. We brought our dog along to celebrate with us. The cabin was clean, cozy, and nicely furnished. We enjoyed being there and also exploring in nearby Berkeley Springs. We hiked in nearby Caccapon State Park. In November, almost all the leaves had fallen, but I still got wonderful pictures of the nearly endless woods. We would be happy to return to this lovely cabin, nestled in the woods and near plenty of interesting things to do.

This cabin is excellent for anyone who wants to get away from the hectic life of the city. In a very quiet, tree filled area this cabin stands alone with few neighbors. We had a great time there and were able to bring our dog which was def a bonus. The rental was very clean, offered plenty of space, and offered alot of different activities from campfires, movies, video games, and long walks. The town of Berkley Springs is less than 5 minutes away so we were able to go for a dip in the Springs and get a great massage in town. There are also a few shops and antique stores where I purchased a great cedar chest. I'd recommend this retreat to those who are looking for a relaxing or romantic weekend.

Spending an extended weekend at Retriever's Retreat was just what we needed to slow down from the craziness of our fast-paced world! We are excited to report that we actually cooked every meal but one outside over the fire. (Thunder and lightening finally forced us into the kitchen on our last evening!) We can't say thank you enough for allowing us to the share the weekend with our favorite four-footed friends! This is definitely a little piece of heaven for our retrievers who spent much of the weekend in the stream! Thanks again for a wonderful time!

We visited Retriever's Retreat summer 2008, and had a wonderful, relaxing time. Our teenage son and his friend had a great time with the gaming system, darts and games in the basement, and our beagle loved the yard and the deck, and going for long walks. The cabin was very comfortable, and I loved that there were 2 bathrooms, and super comfortable beds! My husband loved the huge DVD collection so he could collapse in front of the TV after our walking tours of Berkeley Springs. Lovely decor, private, but not isolated, and a beautiful location! We will definitely return!

Last spring we were looking for a place to spend a quiet weekend away from the city, but a place that was still close enough that we didn't spend half our time driving. I happened to stumble across Retriever's Retreat on VRBO. The price was quite reasonable, so we booked a Friday-Sunday trip. We were extremely impressed with the accomodations. My fiance suprised me with a marriage proposal on the first night, so we spent the rest of the weekend just the two of us (and Brody, our Black Lab)enjoying the quiet outdoors and lounging on the huge leather sofa. We made a nice fire in the outdoor firepit to enjoy our Saturday evening. We are planning another trip for this coming spring so that we can enjoy Retriever's Retreat again. I would recommend it to anyone else looking for a nice mix of the outdoors with indoor luxuries.

We stayed at Retreiver's Retreat in Feb 2008. Cluadio was wonderful to work with and had great response time. The house with a quaint little cabin in WVA with nice amenities. The entertainment collection of dvds and games was a nice touch. It snowed while we were there but we faithfully made smores in the fire pit in the back yard. The basement was a tad uncomfortable as there was no carpet and it was colder down there, but other than that, everything was as stated and lovely. Being able to bring our dog was a huge bonus! Thank you Meira's for letting us use your home and we would love to come back soon!

We spent a great anniversary weekend here in 2008. The cabin is just far enough from the beaten path, yet has all of the creature comforts of home. We particularly enjoyed the campfire-making in the back yard and access to many games/movies/distractions. Will visit again.

We enjoyed a week of golfing and hiking and the weather was terrific! And thanks to Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals and Dee Slough for the prompt and courteous service. I walked down Birch Grove Road early Friday morning and stepped a short way into the woods for ninety minutes. I saw about nine deer during that period of time... This place is so relaxing, quiet, and it is easy to understand why you love it here!
