Wonderful 'Up-North' Thanksgiving with family

Guest: Les (Otisville, MIchigan)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/13/12

Our family (daughter, son-in-law, grandson #1, son, daughter-in-law, new baby grandson #2, my husband and I) gathered at the Bass Lake Lodge for Thanksgiving weekend. The accommodations were perfect--extremely clean, comfortable, inviting, and family-friendly. There were so many thoughtful touches--a lovely welcome note and gift from the owner, games/puzzles/books/toys for visitors of all ages, directions to nearby attractions, firepit with wood ready--I could go on and on. The ktichen was so well-stocked that we were able to pull off a complete Thanksgiving dinner with very little difficulty. It was the relaxing family holiday weekend I have been dreaming of! We will definitely be back!

Owner response:I am thrilled to know that your Thanksgiving dinner was a success! And, it warms my heart to know that you appreciated all of the extra ammenities that I offer! Thank you for the terrific review. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Second Stay Even Better Than the First

Guest: Brad and Diane (Valparaiso, IN)
Date of Stay: 11/10/11 Review Submitted: 11/26/11

We enjoyed the cabin and our hosts two years ago,and got the opportunity to return this year. My daughter and her husband met us there for the weekend. How beautiful! Especially the mornings with the rising sun shining on the lake and the ducks making their morning forage. I would like to come back some time and fish the lake. The owners are very gracious and keep the place spotless. I know we will be back again, and maybe our kids will come up here on their own as well! We all enjoyed the local wineries and the scenery. We hit Sleders bar several times for their burgers and the Friday fish fry.

Owner response:Thanks for the return visit Brad! Glad you all enjoyed your stay. Hoping to see you again soon!

Rent this cottage!

Guest: Phyllis and Tom (Akron, oh)
Date of Stay: 10/01/11 Review Submitted: 10/21/11

My husband and I are veterans of vacation rentals, have been renting cottages for 24 years. I have a lot of good things to say about this rental and will sum it up in 3 words - rent this cottage! Clean, nicely decorated, very well equipped, lovely sunrises over the lake, convenient to many attractions. 15 minutes from Traverse City. Peaceful surroundings, nice neighbors (when theyare there). Owners very nice and helpful. When we are in the area again, this is the first place we will try to rent.

Fourth Visit

Guest: Lee and Brandi Bowie (Detroit, MI)
Date of Stay: 09/27/11 Review Submitted: 11/19/11

Thank you Jennifer for another great visit to the cabin (our fourth). Again we enjoyed the fishing, the sunrises, the evenings in front of the fire place, and dinner at Boone's Long Lake Inn. This visit we also witnessed the spectacular autumn change of colors. We had a minor incident at the cottage and we truly appreciate your understanding and professionalism. Thank you for the cherry treats. We look forward to returning soon.

Owner response:Thanks for the great review Brandi! It is always a pleasure to have you as a guest. I appreciate your 'heads up' about the incident - no problem! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Extraordinary Lake Cabin

Guest: Southerners Up North (Birmingham, AL)
Date of Stay: 08/06/11 Review Submitted: 08/16/11

My wife and I spent an enjoyable week in this beautiful and fully furnished cabin on beautiful Bass Lake. The cabin was everything we expected, and then some. It appears that the owner takes great pride in the quality of the furnishings, and the cabin itself. The kitchen was fully equipped for all of our needs, and had extras like a toaster that we did not expect. The neighbors next door pointed us to a couple of local restaurants, Boones, and Giovanni's, both of which had very good food. This rental does not have air conditioning, but this caused us no problems whatsoever because of the cool Michigan summer weather we experienced. I would recommend this property to anyone interested in a quiet spot by the lake with easy access to Traverse City. We are already thinking about our next trip to the Bass Lake Lodge.

It was everything and then some.We stayed 7/2/11 thru 7/9/11. Great weather, was close to everything TC, Crystal Lake, Casino etc. The home is very clean and has a great view of Bass Lake. I wish we would of had a boat to check out the lake better but we enjoyed the paddle boat. Jennifer thank you again for everything you have a great rental property, Don and Karen.

We stayed at Bass Lake Lodge June 4th-11th. 2011. We were very happy with the lodge, the owner went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. All of the little things that make a stay special. It was very clean and cozy. Close to town yet off of the main drag. Beautiful sun rises over the lake and a million dollar view, we seen Bald eagles and loons and we were close to several lakes which we checked out and did very well fishing. The week went by way to fast. We are already talking about next year!

A group us (6 adults) stayed at the Bass Lake Lodge...In March 2011 for 4 days of wine tasting. The house was so clean and very well maintained. We enjoyed the each night by the fireplace drinking the days "New Wine Finds". We took a walk on the frozen lake, and watched the deer play from the breath taken view from the deck. Jennifer was so helpful and accommodating. We hope to visit the Bass Lake lodge again very soon!

Fun in the snow

Guest: Tim & Mary Kaye (Muncie, IN)
Date of Stay: 12/18/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

We had a very nice time. The house was clean, attractive, and well kept. The drive was cleared of snow when we arrived, and it was cleaned twice more during the week after additional snow. We enjoyed long walks in the snowy woods on the snowmobile-packed trail - just what we came for. A fire in the fireplace each night was icing on the cake, although we did have to buy some fire starters because the wood provided was too thick to be lit without kindling or fire starters. A minor point. Overall it was a totally enjoyable experience.

This was our first visit and we would love to return again! The home was so comfortable with everything you could ever need. Very well maintained. We enjoyed the fishing and Bass Lake lived up to its name. Caught a big bass and lots of specs. The changes on the lake were so colorful and we enjoyed taking pictures of everything. Fall colors were just what you would expect this time of year. We want to return and bring our grandson (s). They would enjoy swimming and playing in the sand. So convienient to everything too. The pumpkin was so thoughtful by the owners and you can tell they want you to feel special and welcomed!!! Thank-you for all the care and thoughtfulness you have shown!!!

My wife and I visited the Bass Lake Lodge this October for our wedding anniversary. The lodge is a well kept and very nice place. It was very comfortable for the two of us and would also be great for three couples NO PROBLEM. The sunrise is outstanding and wish we had more time to spend on the lake also. The owner providing firewood is a HUGE plus and the owner is also a pleasure to deal with. The Christmas card was an awesome touch! Sorry we took so long to put in our review!!! A comfortable and convient place to stay and enjoy Traverse City, Sleeping Bear dunes and outlying area. We recoommend highly and hope to return soon!!!! A great value too.

A delightful home that was used as a base to explore Northwest Michigan. It has every amenity, warm and cozy; fireplace inside and a firepit outside. We were there this fall 2010. We will definitely return, if possible. Owner is very accomodating. We recommend taking HWY 22 from Frankfurt north to Northport and back down to Traverse City and stop at all the little towns on the Lake. Don't forget Sleeping Bear Dunes. If you travel north to Petoskey, go a little further to Harbor Springs and then onto to M119 (Tunnel of Trees) north to Cross Village for a great Polish restaurant on Lake Michigan. This area is truly "Pure Michigan".

We enjoyed our third visit to the rental more than ever. If possible, the lake has become more beautiful. We took lots of pic of the sunrise over the lake, which was breathtaking. As usual, my husband caught lots of fish. The rental is so accomodating and, as it was a romatinc getaway, we enjoyed staying in but one evening we did venture out to have dinner at the Boone's Long Lake Inn (5 minutes up the road) where our server, Kris, treated us like royalty and pleasantly surprised me with a sampling of wines. What a great restaurant just minutes from the rental. Jennifer, we enjoyed the updates to the rental, including the paved firepit, which is sure to be a hit with families. You continue to provide a quality experience and we look forward to visiting next year.

My two sisters and I have just completed our THIRD annual visit to the lodge, and it continues to amaze us. In addition to the spotless, cozy, perfectly decorated lodge with all the right amenities, our hosts are wonderful and welcoming, and the location on this heavenly lake is breathtaking, day and night. Its proximity to Traverse City and the surrounding area is perfect as well, not too far and not too close. This is a wonderful place, that I'd recommend over and over again. See you next year!

Date of Stay: 05/18/10 Review Submitted: 06/08/10

My family has traveled to Bass Lake off and on for the past fifty years. The Bass Lake Lodge is by far the best accommodation we have ever had. Every convenience that you would hope for was provided. It was like staying at the home of the owners. I would absolutely recommend the Bass Lake Lodge for any age group or any size family. It was a delightful experience that we are hopeful of repeating often in the future.

Owner response:Thank you for your visit! It was nice to hear the stories from you and your family of all the memories you have of Bass Lake over the years! And, it is with great pride and pleasure that I share my vacation home. I truly intend on providing a 'home away from home atmosphere." And, I'm pleased to know how much you enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you again!

We love the Bass Lake Lodge! We stayed at the cottage for onr week in August and had a wonderful time. Our family of five (including 2 parents, children ages 6 & 8, and grandma) found that there was always something to do for everyone. We loved fishing off the dock, rowing around to explore the lake, swimming, sitting on the deck enjoying the view, and roasting marshmellows by the campfire. This cottage is in a great location...we were close to T.C. but also close to all the fun stuff we love to do in Leland, Glen Arbor, and at the Dunes. The cottage was extremely well-kept, clean, and equipped. It is better than having your own place. We prepared most of our meals in the kitchen or on the grill and had everything we needed. Every little thing is thought of...life jackets, marshmellow roasting sticks, board games, fishing poles, and even a couple beach toys for the kids. Jennifer and her family are gracious hosts! Thank you for sharing this very special place with our family. The kids are already begging to come back!

Thank you for such a lovely weekend away. The house is so clean and comfortable and very well stocked with everything you need in a home. Waking up to the beautiful mist covered lake and the sounds of acorns falling off the trees sure beats waking up to noisy traffic and airplanes flyimg overhead. The rowboat was a great way to get out on the lake right away but we also rented kayaks to explore the other sides of the lake. The house was close to town, shopping and church. We also spent a day each at Sleeping Bear Dunes/Leelanau Penninsula and Mackinac Island. Jennifer, the owner, obviously takes pride in her house and wants everything to be just right to enjoy your stay.

Owner response:Thank you Maureen! I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay. And, I am thankful that the thought and effort I put into my vacation rental is appreciated so much. 'It is meant to be your home away from home during your stay.'

Our stay at the Bass Lake Lodge was very enjoyable. The cottage is very cozy and very equiped with whatever one needs. The lake was good for fishing and many were put back for another year to grow. Our stay was plesant and quite. The lake is not busy and we could see the fish jumping on the mornings and some loons fishing during the day.

My son, goddaughter and I enjoyed a wonderful week at the Bass Lake Lodge in late June/early July and boy were we impressed. The cottage was super clean, well-laid out and comfortably furnished as well as fully supplied with all the necessities for a week of vacation on the lake (right down to the corn cob holders, marshmallow roasting sticks and ice cream scoop - nothing was forgotten). We also enjoyed the shallow, sandy lake bottom for swimming, gorgeous lakefront views, the rowboat and the firepit complete with firewood. Thank you Jennifer for your hospitality during our stay :) We will be back.......

We spent a week in July at Bass Lake Lodge and had a great time. The house was nicely appointed with plenty of room for 5 people. The rowboat allowed my 12-year old daughter and 13-year old son the freedom to explore the lake and successfully fish for bass on their own, while the back deck was captained by my wife and "Grandma". Kingfishers, loons, pileated woodpeckers, and a muskrat provided local color. And it's a very convenient location to explore the area. A great week of R&R!

We enjoyed every minute at Bass Lake Lodge! The cottage was very clean with excellent beds, comfortable furniture and everything we needed for a multi-night stay. The care the owners give the property and the pride they have in it is very evident both inside and out. One bonus is the good fishing! We caught enough large bluegills off the dock for dinner one night! We can heartily recommend Bass Lake Lodge for anyone looking for a very comfortable, resonably priced and well maintained accomodation on a beautiful northern lake. Alan and Connie Fowler

My husband & I have stayed at Bass Lake Lodge many times and have enjoyed the accommodations and the area. Our most recent visit was January 2009, there was 3 feet of snow on the ground and the house was warm and with the fire roaring it was a perfect place to watch the snow around us. We enjoyed watching the deer gather on the lake and settle in at the island across the lake. Thanks for a wonderful place to get away and relax.

Far enough away from the busy-ness of Traverse City & close to quiet, solitude, nature and relaxation. Fishing is great--bass & bluegill. Fantastic sunrises. Bring your camera & binoculars. Our autumn stay was ideally timed and I look forward to spending time on Bass Lake in the summer & winter as well. Can you imagine the lake frozen...ice skating, ice fishing and staying cozy & warm by the wood burning fireplace. And in the summer! What a great place for swimming & playing in the sun. Stay here and you'll experience the best Northern Michigan has to offer at an affordable price in a clean, comfortable home.

The Bass Lake Lodge was a perfect spot for our vacation. The cottage is rustic enough to feel like you're "getting away", but has all the comforts of home and was so clean that our baby could happily explore every inch on his hands and knees. The property provides exceptional lake views enjoyable from the enormous deck and the spacious living room, and the sunrises were spectacular every single morning. We hope to visit this lovely cottage again and lure some more fish out of beautiful Bass Lake!

Vacation Aug. 18-24, 2007. The house was as described. Comfy beds. Glad there was a wash/dryer. Kitchen + dining room was great. Neighbors were friendly. Very quiet lake and area. Fantastically close to Traverse City. Lake is very shallow, not for skiing or tubing. Great fishing! If you want piece and quiet and a cozy getaway, this is it!

We had a wonderful week at the Bass Lake Lodge. The location is beautiful, with a nice view of the lake. The accommodations are very comfortable (especially the beds!), kept up-to-date (everything worked!) and modernized. The proprietor is someone who cares about the house that has been in her family for many years and has been enjoyed by many guests. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

We had a wonderful week at Bass Lake Lodge this July, 2007. The lake front was clean and shallow for wadding and playing with our toddler granddaughter. She even caught her fist fish. The accomodations were very comfortable - appreciated plenty of seating in the living room for our group. Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had was stocked very nicely with dishes and pans as we needed. Loved the location, so close to Traverse City and other area sites to visit. We will definitely consider returning to Bass Lake Lodge!

The Bass Lodge is a great vacation getaway. The cottage has everything you need to guarantee a week without wishing you had brought more things from home. She has it all. Good fishing 200' out in front of dock. Location is far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to town if that's what you’re looking for. Swimming is a bit poor due to a weed problem in some parts of the lake. However the bass love hiding there so it's a double edge sword. The water in front of the cottage is fine for splashing around and cooling off. I recommend this cottage!

We stayed at Bass Lake Lodge from May 12-19, 2007 and had a great time. The house was very well kept and the kitchen was equipped with a good assortment of pots, pans, dishes and utensils. The location is great because you are just a few miles from shopping and restaurants but while at the house you feel comfortably secluded. It's great!

Courtney and I had such a wonderful time staying at the cottage that we can't wait to get the opportunity to go back someday soon. Our visit in October was unseasonably warm and I was able to catch many bass and we both were astounded by the vibrant fall colors. The lodge is minutes from some of the best restaurants, wineries and recreational activities Michigan has to offer. We had a wonderful time. Thank you so much.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bass Lake Lodge. It is a quaint and comfortable cottage. We spent a week in quiet and solitude, which is just what we were looking for. I am sure that BLL has the BEST site on Bass Lake. It was just the beauty that our spirits needed!
